It's well-hidden, and there are many Ashlight Family floating Knights guarding the perimeter. In theory, whoever approaches, even if it's just a bird, these guards would send the relevant information to Ian's terminal.
And Ian's terminal has long been connected to the Silver Chip, yet he did not receive the message that 'the Fae have arrived.'
So, the situation is quite simple... The Fae have apparently bypassed the guards to give Ian a surprise!
