Chapter 43 - Chapter thirty seven : Dress up for the wedding

"So you mean Kyle is now your new teacher ".

" Yeah Jane , and I'm so exhausted " Raye said shaking her head slowly.

"Have you seen Danielle or what ??" .

"Yeah sure , she is at the field talking to some people "Jane answered shrugging as they both walked slowly to the field .

They eventually found Danielle who was talking to a guy as they waited for her to finish before she walked up to them with a small mocking smile .

"Look who we have here , have you come to rub your relationship with Kyle on my face ?" She asked with a raised brow while Raye frowned sharing a look with Jane .

"Danielle , I didn't come here to talk about Kyle and secondly we are not in a relationship ok".

Danielle scoffed loudly folding her hand across her chest .

"You are right , tell that to the birds up in the sky , look ,if you don't have anything useful to say , I have better things to do ".

"Danielle can you stop being childish and listen " Jane scolded suddenly pissed .

Yeah she understand what the girl was feeling right now , but she wasn't even giving them a chance to speak or explain .

"Don't you dare tell me what to do , you want civilized but you don't act like one , rather you go snatch people's _..." Danielle paused looking for a word to put there .

Raye and Jane shared a look as they tried hard not laugh ..

What did she wanted to say boyfriend ...Kyle and her were not even dating so how was he snatched .

Danielle gritted her teeth , folding her hand into a tight fist seeing their amused expression .

"Look Dan , me and Kyle are just friends ok , beside I didn't know Kyle was the exact guy you were talking about "

"You didn't know , you see were you guys piss me off so much ...the denial ..ugh " she groaned so hard shaking her head angrily and her earrings jiggle too .

If they ever told Raye ,danielle could throw a fit like this she was going to deny it .

She didn't expect her to forgive or believe them immediately , but after four days she should have gotten over it .

Not exactly get over but at least she should be ready to listen to them now , after all they were her friends .

But it felt like every day the hatred just increased .

"Dan ,can we just go back to being friends , look if Kyle likes you I promise to let go ...we aren't even dating yet "..

"I saw you guys cuddling in the library and you want me to come in , look Raye enough of this nonsense ...we can't be friends anymore " Danielle said snorting she walked passed them before stopping as she said . "Don't ever , stop me to tell me this rubbish ,have a bad day snitches ".

Jane gritted her teeth " that girl need a slap to reset something in her head , how can she be like this for a guy who doesn't care ".

Raye stared at Jane and then at Danielle who was stomping angrily like she had personal issues with the ground .

"I tried jane , but she isn't ready to listen let's just go home ".

"Yeah sure " Jane said scoffing loudly she walked away while Raye followed her slowly still thinking about what had happened.

The Saturday sunlight streamed through the curtains, hitting Raye right in the face. She groaned, pulling the sheets over her head. But Jane, ever the early bird, was already blasting music from her speaker. Some upbeat pop that didn't care whether Raye was mourning the death of sleep.

"Rise and shine, señorita," Jane chirped while Raye raised her head with a frown wondering how she got into her room ,

Then she remembered they both fell asleep in her room yesterday after class .

She was standing in front of the mirror with a hairbrush like it was a microphone.

Raye slumped back on the bed before peeking out from under her blanket, hair sticking out like she'd just fought a battle in her dreams. "Jane, it's not even—" she grabbed her phone from the nightstand "—nine yet. Why are you like this?"

Jane twirled, her blonde hair bouncing in messy waves. "Because today is wedding day! Our handsome Mexican neighbor is finally tying the knot. Which means…" she dragged the last part, wagging her brows at Raye.

"Which means what? Free food? A chance for you to cry over strangers exchanging vows?" Raye muttered, sitting up slowly.

Jane gasped. "yeah sure , and also to meet new guys , don't worry Kyle won't be there ".

Raye froze mid-yaw .She picked up her pillow and threw it at Jane. "Shut up!"

Jane dodged, cackling. "Don't even try, Raye. He literally said he liked you. Out loud. Words were spoken. You can't keep pretending you didn't hear it."

Raye's cheeks flushed pink as she stumbled out of bed. "It's complicated. He's… he's Kyle."

"Yeah, your Kyle." Jane smirked, turning back to her makeup pouch. "Anyway, we don't have time for your denial crisis. Help me decide: braided crown or loose curls?"

Raye rolled her eyes but padded over.

Jane's long blonde hair glimmered in the sunlight, soft and shiny. "Loose curls," Raye said, grabbing Jane's curling wand. "You'll look like you stepped out of a bridal magazine. Don't blame me when all the single guys forget about the bride and stare at you."

Jane preened. "As they should." She sat down on the stool while Raye carefully curled each section, humming under her breath.

Meanwhile, Raye's reflection in the mirror looked like chaos. Shoulder-length hair falling into her eyes, her curtain bangs doing whatever they pleased. Jane, of course, noticed.

"Girl, your bangs need therapy."

"They're called curtain bangs, Jane," Raye shot back. "They're supposed to frame my face, not… behave." She picked up her straightener and began taming the strands, flicking them slightly at the edges so they curled inward. Slowly, the mess transformed into something chic.

By the time Jane was done with her makeup—dewy foundation, soft pink blush, a hint of champagne eyeshadow—she looked like she belonged on a Pinterest board titled Effortless Goddess.

"Your turn," Jane announced, spinning around with a brush in hand like a weapon.

She stared at Raye who had just come out of the bathroom sitting down on the bed with a tired face .

Raye groaned. "No heavy makeup. I swear, if you put glitter on my eyes—"

"Relax." Jane dabbed foundation onto Raye's cheeks before she could escape. "I know you. Simple but cute. Natural brows, a little bronzer, mascara, and…" she grinned, holding up a soft nude lipstick. "This. Trust me."

Raye pursed her lips in the mirror, surprised at how polished she looked after Jane's touch. Her bangs framed her eyes perfectly, her shoulder-length waves soft and bouncy. "Okay, fine. You did good."

"I always do good," Jane said smugly.

Now came the outfits.

Jane pulled out a soft champagne shade midi dress with ruffled sleeves and a cinched waist. Paired with nude heels and a pearl necklace, she looked like every mother-of-the-groom's dream guest.

Raye, on the other hand, chose a dusty lavender dress—simple A-line cut, square neckline, with delicate straps that showed off her collarbone.

She paired it with small silver hoops and strappy sandals.

You couldn't blame her , she forgot today was even the wedding day ...and Jane didn't remind her until this morning by ruining her sleep .

She hope she wouldn't end up stress eating or do anything embarrassing out of tiredness or so .

"Cute," Jane declared, giving her an approving nod. "You look like… if a fairy godmother blessed a university girl with taste."

Raye smirked. "And you look like you're trying to catch the bouquet."

They both laughed, but the laughter softened when Raye sat on the edge of the bed, fiddling with her necklace.

"Do you think Danielle will ever talk to us again?" she asked quietly.

Jane sighed, fixing her earring in the mirror. "Honestly? No clue. She's stubborn. And right now, she probably thinks the world is against her."

"It just sucks," Raye murmured. "Everything blew up so fast. And now… Kyle. I don't even know how to deal with him."

Jane sat beside her, bumping her shoulder. "Deal with him by not overthinking. He likes you. You like him. Boom. Done. Stop making it harder than writing a thesis."

Raye laughed weakly. "You make it sound so simple."

"It is simple. You're just Raye—the girl who over thinks until her bangs go gray." Jane winked, pulling her up. "Come on. Wedding bells wait for no one. And neither does free champagne."

They grabbed their clutch purses, spritzed perfume—Jane with something floral, Raye with something fresh and citrusy—and headed out,as they made their way toward the waiting cab.
