Third day .

The living room was dimly lit, the curtains half-drawn to keep the sunset's glare out.

Empty snack wrappers lay scattered around the carpet like tiny confetti — remnants of an emotional four-day pity party. Raye sat slouched on the couch in her oversized sweatshirt, eyes still puffy from crying earlier that morning.

Jane, who had been her emotional support, disaster manager, and comedian-on-duty since the suspension started, was sprawled beside her, balancing a half-eaten bag of chips on her stomach.

"Okay," Jane announced, voice muffled by the crunch. "You've cried, you've slept, you've watched The Notebook twice, and you've cursed Danielle in three different languages. I think you're emotionally detoxed now."

Raye groaned, dragging a pillow over her face. "I'm detoxed, not healed. There's a difference."

"Come on , this isn't the Raye I know give me a cheer ??" Jane said springing up from the couch jumping up abruptly, waiting for Raye who was still staring at the window distantly .

She grabbed her hand shaking her furiously while Raye jerked turning to stare at her before rolling her eyes tiredly .

"A cheer ".

"Ya " Raye murmured barely audible as Jane scrunched her face before shaking her hand again .

"Ya " Raye said this time a little loud but not considered audible for Jane ..more like a whisper .

"You sound like a dying fish , who swallowed a stone , stop croaking and give me a cheer " Jane said jumping up again excitedly .

Raye stared at her for a minutes sighing she raised her fist before saying

"Yah " and then she fell back on the couch .

WOW .

Jane thought staring at Raye with wide eyes who was now lying on the couch .

She acted like she used all her strength to say the ' yah ' ...and then she gave up .

Jane stared at Raye for a few minutes sitting back down on the couch before she burst out laughing .

"You're dramatic, not dying." She sat up, grabbing the game console controller from the side table . "C'mon, I brought something that might cure your tragic main character syndrome."

Raye peeked from under the pillow, squinting. "If it's exercise, I'm disowning you."

"Better," Jane said with a grin. "Just Dance: Ultimate Chaos Edition. Loser does the dishes for a week."

Raye blinked. "You do realize you can't dance without looking like a malfunctioning robot, right?"

"Excuse you, my rhythm is—" Jane stood up, doing a weird hip movement that looked like she was trying to scare away mosquitoes. "—artistic."

Raye burst out laughing, finally sitting up. "That's not art, that's a public safety hazard."

Jane smiled seeing Raye laugh .

Fuck she didn't want to admit it but she missed her ...she missed Raye .

The house felt boring without their whole back and forth thing and now hearing her laugh really made her happy .

They started the game anyway, turning the living room into their private concert.

Raye's laughter came easier now as she tried (and failed) to keep up with the on-screen moves. Jane kept yelling, "SHAKE IT, CRYBABY!" every time Raye missed a step, which only made her laugh harder.

By the time they collapsed on the couch, breathless and sweaty, the earlier heaviness had faded a little.

"I swear," Raye said between gasps, "if any body ever sees that video, I'll change my name and move to Alaska."

"Oh, they are seeing it," Jane said mischievously, holding up her phone.

Raye lunged at her. "DELETE IT!"

Jane dodged, laughing as Raye tackled her. "Fine! Fine! I'll delete it! Geez, you're violent for someone who cries over Disney movies."

Raye giggled, resting her head back against the couch. The room fell quiet except for the hum of the fan. For the first time in days, the silence didn't sting.

Then her phone buzzed.

She lazily reached for it, expecting another spam message — until she saw the school's email notification.

Her breath hitched. "Oh my God."

Jane paused mid-bite of her chocolate bar. "What? Is it bad?"

Raye shook her head, rereading the message twice. "It says… I can come back tomorrow."

Jane's grin spread slowly, then she screamed — actually screamed. "YESSS! MY ROOMMATE RETURNS!"

Raye laughed weakly, tears welling up again, but this time they weren't from sadness. "I thought I ruined everything, Jane."

Jane nudged her shoulder softly. "You didn't ruin anything, Rae. You just… got caught in someone else's storm. But tomorrow's a new day."

Raye nodded, hugging the pillow to her chest as she smiled faintly at the glowing phone screen.

"Yeah but what if it's - " .

"Shut up am not hearing another what if ,also watching you panic and spoiling this joy " Jane said placing her index finger on Raye' s lips stopping her from whatever she was about to say .

"It's going to be good news , and not a bad one ok ...so let's be happy ...don't you know the saying , If you believe something good will happen to you , then it will vice versa....so stop thinking ".

Raye stared at Jane glad that she picked jer to be her friend ...her best friend .

Jane was everything she would ever need , she slowly leaned forward resting her head on her shoulder , closing her eyes slowly with a small smile .

"I hope so Jane, I am so glad you are my best friend "

"Hmm , me to ,now have hope and faith ...and believe " Jane said patting her head slowly.

Tomorrow.

Back to school.

Back to everything she'd been running from.

But maybe this time… she'd walk in with her head high.
