Charles wasn't afraid of death. What bothered him was just how poorly timed and pathetic his death looked in that video.
The poor old Logan, the clueless Laura, and those young mutant children who still needed protection…
All of them should've been his responsibility. Yet he just let go, handed everything off to Logan like that. Couldn't he have burned just a little brighter one last time before the end?
In the light screen video, Logan arrived late—only to come face to face with the killer. The man was casually carrying Laura down the stairs like a kitten. He glanced coldly at Logan, then turned and walked away.
Logan was, of course, shocked by the man's appearance, but Charles's safety came first. He didn't even have time to help Laura. Calling out Charles's name, he dashed upstairs.
He found Charles lying weakly on the bed, barely breathing, with a blood-soaked wound across his chest. Gently, he cradled him in his arms, repeating over and over again, "That wasn't me… that wasn't me…"
Logan was filled with guilt. He hadn't protected Charles well enough. Holding him tightly, he carried him downstairs and prepared to leave—only to find that trouble was still brewing outside.
The farm owner had offended the local gang, and earlier that day, while Logan and the farmer were out working, a conflict broke out.
Logan had taken care of them quickly, sending the thugs running. But they came back, unwilling to let it go, bringing even more muscle for revenge.
That's when they ran into another Logan Howlett.
This version of Logan—stronger, younger—was a clone developed by Zander Rice, codenamed X24. Laura's code was X23.
This time, Zander came in person, determined to make sure nothing went wrong. So he brought X24 with him.
And from what we could see, the cloning was a success. X24 not only inherited some of Logan's powers but also his violent temper.
The local gang mistook X24 for the older Logan and tried to stop him.
Big mistake.
Without a word, X24 went on a bloody rampage.
Watching from the shadows, Zander quickly realized things were getting out of hand. He had to step in to stop X24.
Donald Pierce and the mercenaries began to mobilize. Meanwhile, Caliban—who had been captured and used as their "tracker"—watched the chaos unfold and, in the confusion, picked up two grenades...
On the other side, Logan carried the fading Charles to the car. By now, Professor X was too far gone. But in his final moments, his mind was on something else—the promise Logan had made to him: a new home on a boat called The Sunseeker.
"That boat… The Sunseeker…"
His cloudy eyes regained clarity for one last time. And with that final whisper, he slipped away in Logan's arms, leaving him stunned and disbelieving.
Professor X died—died in the middle of all this madness.
Truth be told, this wasn't the first time viewers had witnessed his death. Back in the timelines of Doctor Strange and Scarlet Witch, the Professor had already perished at Wanda's hands after joining the Illuminati.
But dying in the line of duty, in a battle to preserve peace, at the hands of a powerful enemy—somehow, that felt more honorable than this. Dying like this… it was humiliating.
Outside the video, Erik let out a heavy sigh. "Charles, you have to admit… living too long isn't always a blessing. I'd rather you died to a Sentinel's laser—at least that would've been dignified."
Charles rubbed his face hard, forcing a smile that looked more like a grimace. "Well, no matter what, I guess that version of me is finally free… All the burden's now on Logan."
Erik glanced at Logan, whose face was expressionless, and said quietly, "At least he was there at the end. He did more than enough. But in the end, you still took away his reason to keep going."
Back in the video, a massive fireball lit up the night as Caliban pulled the grenades and took a few mercenaries down with him—a final act to follow Charles into the grave.
Enraged beyond reason, Logan leapt toward X24 through the fire, with only one thought in his mind:
Avenge Charles.
But no matter how furious he was, Logan was old. Weakened. He was no longer the man he used to be.
And that's exactly what X24 was—everything Logan used to be.
Within a few brutal exchanges, Logan was completely outmatched. He was beaten senseless by X24.
Just as he was about to be finished off, a jeep came roaring in and slammed into X24, pinning him against a fence.
The driver was the farm owner. He hadn't died after all. Driven by the same need for revenge, he came back—to avenge his family.
Getting out of the vehicle, he blasted X24 in the head with a shotgun. Then, turning the barrel on Logan—who could barely stand—he hesitated.
No doubt about it, Logan and his companions were the reason for the calamity that had befallen his home.
Logan didn't flinch or resist. He was too tired. Too broken. If this was the end, so be it.
But the farmer couldn't pull the trigger. He had dragged his injured body this far for revenge, but he had nothing left. He collapsed to the ground.
On screen, Logan—battered and bleeding—stood silently. It was hard to say if he felt relief or regret. Mostly, he just looked lost.
Then Laura's screams snapped him back to reality.
Limping heavily, Logan picked her up and placed her in the car. They drove away.
Behind them, dawn broke over the horizon.
X24 was still alive.
Zander injected him with a special serum to enhance his abilities.
This wasn't over.
Logan drove to a small grove by a lake.
There, he buried Charles. Beside water, just like he'd wanted.
Staring at the still lake, Logan muttered, "At least it's by the water…"
According to the plan, they were supposed to buy that yacht, The Sunseeker, and live out their last days in peace on the ocean. But plans never survive reality. This was all he could do now—lay Charles to rest here, by the lake.
Laura understood how much pain this man was carrying. She quietly reached out and held his hand.
It was something she had longed for—for this man she saw as her father.
But Logan had had enough.
He cursed under his breath, shook her hand off violently, and got into the car alone.
He wanted to leave behind this burden that had changed everything.
But fate hadn't finished playing its cruel games.
The car broke down.
Logan, furious and exhausted, grabbed a shovel and began smashing the vehicle.
Eventually, he collapsed.
Many viewers watching this scene couldn't hold back their tears.
Even some of the toughest-looking middle-aged men—those who usually stayed silent—were among the loudest sobbing.
Because this future of Logan's hit too close to home.
Wounds, burdens, regrets—everyone saw a part of themselves in this broken old man.
Living... is just too damn hard.
