The wave of fire lasted for several seconds. Rune shut his eyes instinctively, but did his best to pump more mana into the barrier. Even though barrier magic was supposed to be indestructible, he was still up against a First Beast. On top of that, his barrier magic was only an imitation created from his connection with Luna. If anyone's barrier was at risk of breaking under strain, Rune knew it would be his.
The air was suffocating in its heat. The fire spread around his and Tera's combined barrier like parting sea. Tendrils of fire lapped at his cheeks and scorched his skin black, but Rune held his ground. When the fire finally passed Rune's arms fell too his sides. He scanned the battle ground as a feeling of defeat washed over him.
