Four more days came and went before The Shelf was in sight. It was the last barrier standing between Rune and Shiro, and the Night Region.
"We finally made it..." Rune muttered, standing on flat ground for the first time in what felt like for ever. Shiro was standing by his side panting and hunched over with her hands on her knees. "But it will only get more dangerous from here," she huffed.
Those four days on the mountainside had felt like an eternity. They had grueling treks up the steep incline during the day, while their nights were spent in fear of the danger of Mountain Tunnelers. With each day that passed, the encounters became more frequent.
It was a miracle they hadn't been eaten, or worse, that the mountainside hadn't broken free from under them from the beasts' emergence.
"It like we still have a long way to go," Shiro said.
