Chang Kong and Qin Yunzhu escaped back to the Heavenly Sword Sect through the space rift. After finding a successor for Zhao Feiyan, Chang Kong chose to return and repay the life-saving grace to Qin Yunzhu. At her request, he joined the Heavenly Sword Sect.
In the years that followed, Qin Yunzhu grew to become the Sect Master of the Heavenly Sword Sect, and Chang Kong's status rose accordingly. However, she never took on any positions, simply regarding herself as Qin Yunzhu's attendant.
Initially, Chang Kong would occasionally take care of Li Xiyin in secret, but over time, Li Xiyin vanished without a trace, her whereabouts unknown.
Chang Kong went to the Kunlun Ruins Hidden Sect, but without a Sword Box, he could not enter and was barred outside, thus severing his ties with Kunlun Ruins.
It wasn't until a hundred years later, when Fang Zhou entered the Heavenly Sword Sect, that Chang Kong took notice of him.
