Chapter 40 - Chapter 40: Hurry Up or You'll Miss Out

He noticed it too; the third brother was clearly feeling a bit stiff from being questioned.

Anyway, if there's food, just eat it. There's no need to say too much about anything else.

They're brothers after all, with bonds deeper than bones and tendons. No matter who has a good life, the others will benefit too.

A group of kids had already been waiting eagerly, and as soon as an adult gave the word, they hurried over to the small table.

Fortunately, the kids were taught to mind their manners; no one dared to touch their chopsticks until the adults spoke.

"Big brother, big sister-in-law, second brother, second sister-in-law, let's quickly eat while there's still some light; otherwise, we won't be able to see anything once it gets dark," Lin Sanshui said.

"Alright, everyone sit..."

The two tables were instantly full, especially the small table, which was crowded with the younger generation.

Lin Shui looked around and said with emotion, "In the blink of an eye, the kids have grown up. Dashan is already a father, and Dahu and Xiangdong are about to get engaged. You two come sit here, don't compete for food with your younger siblings."

You're only considered an adult after getting married, and kids aren't allowed to eat at the main table. The Lin Family was different since their father passed away early, and their mother raised the three brothers alone. Without outsiders around, there weren't rules like women not eating at the table.

Today's meal was divided into two tables mainly because of Gu Nian's contribution.

Having inquired thoroughly about the family's dining rules beforehand, she didn't want to spend all day working just to eat leftovers or sit with a small bowl among the kids.

Thus, she had Dahu divide all the dishes into two, regardless of quantity, so that the children could have their own table.

People from the other two branches didn't know and thought this arrangement was instructed by Lin Sanshui.

Lin Sanshui, thinking about how both sons had just returned and how delicious the food was, was satisfied with this arrangement so the children could have a good meal.

As the host, Lin Sanshui, aided by Mrs. Jiang who poured them wine, picked up his chopsticks and symbolically took a piece of pig intestine, saying, "Everyone, dig in."

Then, everyone else picked up their chopsticks one after another.

The children's table was even more lively, and although there was no fighting over food, they ate quickly.

A pound of braised pork was divided into two dishes, cut into small pieces, not enough for everyone to have one. Gu Nian picked up her chopsticks to grab some on seeing only the sauce left at the bottom of the bowl!

Gu Nian was dumbfounded.

Lin Santu held a bowl in one hand and picked up a piece of braised pork with his chopsticks in the other. Seeing Gu Nian had missed out, he silently placed the braised pork in her bowl, "Hurry up, little sister, or you won't get anything to eat!"

Ignoring his parents' instructions not to rush food, Lin Santu hastily gave Gu Nian a few good pieces of meat and a big bone, then quickly went to eat his own meal.

Gu Nian swallowed a bit awkwardly.

In both her memory and the original host's memory, there had never been a situation like this, where eating felt like a battle.

Determined to satisfy her hunger, Gu Nian discarded other thoughts and quickly grabbed her chopsticks to get more food.

All that could be heard was the sound of eating; no one said a word.

Erhu, lying in the inner room, smelled the aroma of the meat and heard people talking, but looking at the all-vegetarian dish in his bowl and the cornbread in his hand, instantly lost his appetite.
