Chapter 39 - Chapter 39:

Da Gui froze for a moment, wanting to refuse, but since it was the Sect Leader who picked it up for him, he hesitated for a while.

Cen Lizhui, who was peeking from the rooftop, was gnashing his teeth. He wanted so much to shout, "Don't eat it, let me have it!"

The garlic crayfish had more wine added than the spicy crayfish, and there was more Purple Jing Yurong Cream in it too. Plus, it was made with the Divine Iron Pot, and yet he hesitated to eat it—what a waste!

Da Gui met Chen Muxue's smiling eyes and finally reached for the crayfish in the bowl. He first tasted a bit of the sauce on top, and in just one bite, his eyes instantly lit up.

So fresh!

His next thought was how such a delicious sauce was used to cook this ugly demon beast—it was such a waste!

Da Gui angrily pulled the head off the crayfish. He wasn't going to suck out the stuff from the head; just the thought gave him goosebumps!

Peeling off the shell of the tail, he hesitated slightly before putting it in his mouth, and as he chewed, the bouncy texture made his mind go blank for a moment. Then, the unique freshness of aquatic creatures burst in his mouth!

After chewing carefully, beneath the salty and mildly spicy flavor, the blend of cooked garlic and crayfish surprisingly returned with a hint of sweetness!

How could... how could it be this delicious!

Da Gui had never tasted shrimp before. This mountain belongs to Qingshan County, surrounded by hills, quite a distance from the sea, with no aquatic produce.

His family had caught some small fish and shrimp before, but the small shrimp had no meat, was troublesome; they usually fed it to the ducks directly. The small fish they cooked at home always had a fishy taste, were not good, and had many bones.

So, Da Gui was unaware of the deliciousness of aquatic animals until today, his first taste being from chef Chen Muxue, whose flavors completely filled his brain.

He completely forgot how he had just disliked the little demon beast, and Da Gui eagerly reached for the next one.

Chen Muxue happily ate the spicy crayfish; even she couldn't help but inhale deeply from the spice but couldn't stop. Perhaps this might be a kind of self-torture for spice-loving foodies.

Suddenly, Chen Muxue felt two intense gazes. She looked up while peeling crayfish, and saw Xiao Hu and Xiao Hua intently staring at her—actually, staring at the spicy crayfish in her hands.

Chen Muxue placed the garlic ones in front of the children because she was worried they couldn't handle too much spice. Too spicy and oily foods could cause kids to have upset stomachs, but as the children were staring like that, she wasn't about to stop them.

"Choose whichever you want, don't look at me," Chen Muxue said, as she picked a garlic crayfish herself to show them.

She really meant nothing else, she didn't pick earlier simply because it was farther away!

Xiao Hu first picked one for Xiao Hua, the spicy crayfish had more sauce, was oilier, and a bit hot.

When Xiao Hua finally began to eat, smiling, Xiao Hu then ate his own.

The first feeling upon entering was spicy! Spicy and numbing! But so fragrant!

Xiao Hu's face instantly turned red from the heat, but strangely, he had no intention of stopping; he reached for another, his hand unconsciously grabbing another.

How peculiar, this thing barely has any meat yet it makes people want to eat one after another despite the hassle!

If you asked Chen Muxue, the happiest part was sucking on the crayfish shell. The sauce was right in that suck! And today's crayfish were cleaner than any she had eaten before, sucking was effortless. She decided to ask that shady vendor how they handled it later.

Unbeknownst to her, the shady vendor was quietly gazing at the moon from the rooftop.

Can't look too much, seeing it more makes me want to snatch the whole pot...
