Chapter 28 - Chapter 28: Then Let's Break Off the Engagement

Si Fan's cold gaze remained unchanged, but she was aware inside that the crazed hag before her, opening with sarcasm, was actually the mother of the original host's fiancé??

Ha...

She felt even more disdain!

When Mrs. Jiang and the others heard Jiang Qin's address to the girl beside her, their eyes widened instantly.

What?!

This beautiful girl before them was actually Si Fan, who always wore those hideous glasses every day?!

The difference is just too great, isn't it?!

Though Mrs. Jiang was unwilling to believe, she had no choice but to accept it when she saw Si Fan's obvious support of Jiang Qin.

She frowned—so what if Si Fan is pretty?

A woman with no manners and no education, if her son marries her, wouldn't she drive the mother-in-law crazy?!

The main thing is, she doesn't want her son to marry a woman who is good for nothing!

No matter how beautiful, she's just a vase, without any real substance.

Not even as exceptional as Si Ya's single finger!

Mrs. Jiang pondered and looked down on Si Fan again, "Si Fan, don't even recognize me and still want to be my daughter-in-law?! You're just daydreaming, wishing for the impossible!"

When Jiang Qin heard Mrs. Jiang belittle Si Fan, despite her normally weak nature, she had to toughen up.

A mother becomes strong—she didn't mind being criticized, but when it came to her daughter, it was different!

She retorted firmly, "Mrs. Jiang, what's wrong with my daughter? She hasn't even minded your son being a womanizer, what's your reason for disliking her?"

Mrs. Jiang was miffed, how dare Jiang Qin have the audacity to backtalk?!

Does she even realize her own status!

"So what if my son is a womanizer? He's still nobler than your daughter, by thousands of times! Do you think being married into the Si Family, your daughter becomes the true heiress of the Si Family?! Nonsense, she's just the baggage you brought into the Si Family! A baggage without a biological father!"

"And you, do you think you're noble because you married into the Si Family? As a divorced woman, abandoned by a man, left with a son and a daughter to raise, if it weren't for Si Mingyuan's kindness in marrying you and sheltering you, who knows where you'd be begging to survive!"

"You, you!"

Jiang Qin was red with frustration.

Mrs. Jiang's words had torn open the scars buried in Jiang Qin's heart.

Jiang Qin once followed a man who was a taxi driver; his salary was unstable, averaging seven to eight thousand a month.

She had her own job, bringing in about five thousand monthly.

Their combined monthly salary was over ten thousand.

After all kinds of living expenses, not much was left to save.

At the time, they were saving money to buy a car and a house; life was quite tight.

Though it was tight, life felt fulfilling.

However, this fulfilling life shattered completely when Si Yi was diagnosed with congenital heart disease at age five.

Upon finding out Si Yi was sick, requiring pricey medical expenses, the man abandoned her and the two young children without a word, disappearing from her world, never to be seen again.

She took the children and searched for him for a long time but couldn't find him.

Later, as Si Yi's heart condition worsened, requiring hospitalization, she had to give up looking for him, striving to borrow money, earn a living, enduring days filled with darkness.

In the end, cornered, she even took out a high-interest loan.

Eventually, by agreeing to donate a kidney to Si Ya, Si Mingyuan promised to pay off her high-interest loan.

Once, she overheard a conversation between Si Mingyuan and a doctor, saying that after Si Ya's surgery, her uremia might still recur, possibly requiring another kidney donation.

The only suitable kidney source would be hers.

That's why Si Mingyuan married her.

Under the guise of providing her the high-status life of being Mrs. Si, it was essentially to keep her tied down, preventing her, the walking kidney source, from leaving.

But at that time she had no choice but to agree to Si Mingyuan's terms, signing a prenuptial agreement to become his wife.

Outsiders believed Si Mingyuan was their family's benefactor.

Little did they know, Si Mingyuan only regarded her as a vessel.

If Si Ya's uremia relapsed, Si Mingyuan would undoubtedly demand she donate a kidney to Si Ya!

Reflecting on all those awful experiences, Jiang Qin couldn't stop the aching in her heart.

Seeing Jiang Qin's pale complexion, Mrs. Jiang felt inexplicably satisfied, the corners of her mouth lifted slightly,

"Jiang Qin, take the initiative to bring your daughter to the Jiang Family and call off the engagement willingly. You don't deserve my Jiang Family!"

As the words fell, a gentle voice neared.

"Who doesn't deserve the Jiang Family?"

Mrs. Jiang froze at the question and looked over to see Murong Xiang gracefully approaching.

Wearing a simply elegant white dress, highlighting her noble aura, she's inherently graceful and poised.

The sharpness on Mrs. Jiang's face vanished instantly, and she faintly smiled, "Lady Jun, it's nothing really, just scolding someone like a toad wishing to eat swan meat."

"Oh? Who?" Murong Xiang inquired, her gaze instinctively measuring Si Fan and Jiang Qin.

She had been searching for a while earlier without finding them, only to realize they had ended up here.

Si Fan noticed Murong Xiang's gaze, recognizing her as the woman in the cheongsam she had encountered in the villa a few days ago, and politely nodded.

Murong Xiang's smile deepened suddenly.

She met this young girl again, what does that signify?!

It signifies a mother-in-law and daughter-in-law bond could be possible!

A bond, rare and shall be grasped firmly.

Unaware of Murong Xiang's thoughts, Mrs. Jiang noticed Murong Xiang's focus on Si Fan and spoke, "It's the two you're looking at, mother and daughter, both highly cunning. The mother snagged the Si Family becoming Mrs. Si, and her daughter is even more ambitious, trying to latch onto my Jiang Family, aspiring to be my son's fiancée, without considering if she's worthy enough!"

Murong Xiang was taken aback, "What?? your son's fiancée?!"

Although Mrs. Jiang was unwilling to confirm, everyone present was in the know, so she reluctantly nodded.

After a pause, she couldn't help but add, "But, whether she'll actually manage to marry my son is still uncertain."

Words that Murong Xiang liked hearing, "You're right. After all, no one knows what the future might hold; some people are simply not fated to be together, even if forced, there's no outcome."

Mrs. Jiang thought Murong Xiang agreed with her and couldn't help smiling wider, "Lady Jun, I'm borrowing your words as good luck."

Murong Xiang's smile widened, "That's right, that's right; I wish you achieve all your desires."

Unable to listen any longer, Jiang Qin interrupted, "Sorry, Mrs. Jiang, my daughter and I are off to pick out some shoes!"

With that, she grabbed Si Fan's hand, wanting to leave.

Mrs. Jiang, still basking in her earlier delight, wouldn't let Jiang Qin leave easily, "Hold it, did you hear what I said clearly? If you understand, take your daughter and proactively call off the engagement with the Jiang Family!"

Jiang Qin frowned—if not for Si Mingyuan's coercion, who would let their daughter marry such a promiscuous scoundrel??

She would rather encourage her daughter to find a decent boyfriend, even if poorer, at least well-matched socially.

That wouldn't result in disdain from others easily.

But before she could say anything.

Si Fan, beside her, calmly stated, "Then call off the engagement."
