Chapter 21 - You are just mine

*Present time*

"I am so sorry, baby. I didn't mean to, and it's not what you think," Geb said, apologizing to Nessy. His heart ached when she said he had hurt her. He immediately read her thoughts with fear, wondering if he had done something bad to her while she was unconscious. But then he realized she was speaking of what had happened earlier with Nut. She was still hurting from Nut's actions with him.

"Baby, listen. Nut is my twin sister, and yes, I had something with her, but it's all in the past—back in my time," Geb said, pleading with his eyes, hoping Nessy would understand. But all his hopes were cut short when he read her and saw that she was confused to the core.

'Twin sister? All in the past? Back in my time?' Nessy thought, lost and bewildered. 'What exactly is Geb talking about? What does he mean by "his time"? What's going on here?'

"Nessy," Geb started in a serious tone, "I need to tell you something. I am a g—" He was cut short by the sound of Haggai's voice as she rushed into the office.

"Ma'am, the ambulance is here," Haggai said, entering just in time to find them in a compromising position.

They were both sitting on the floor, faces so close together. To make matters worse, they were sweating, and their upper buttons were loose.

Haggai blushed at the awkward sight. "I'll just tell the ambulance that the situation has been handled and the life has been saved," she said, quickly walking out and closing the door behind her.

Nessy was still in a daze while Haggai was speaking and couldn't grasp what she was saying. She only understood it when she heard the door shut. 'What?!' she thought in disbelief.

"Haggai!" she called in a tired voice, not loud enough for her to hear. "Don't call off the ambulance! He might still need medical attention." She used her gaze to rake over his body, searching for any injuries or mishaps that might require care.

Geb just stared at her with affection as she inspected him. He could see how much she cared and understood why it hurt her so much to see Nut claim him as hers.

"Okay, I can see you don't have any visible injuries. Are you feeling pain anywhere?" Nessy asked, her innocent eyes seeking answers on his face.

"Yes, I feel pain somewhere," Geb answered, squeezing his face in pain and groaning softly.

"Where is that?" Nessy asked, worry and care lacing her voice. She hoped he hadn't suffered internal injuries or something worse.

Geb didn't answer but groaned more intensely, clutching his chest tightly, squeezing both flesh and clothes.

Nessy was going insane with fear. "What is it, Geb? How does it hurt? Does it burn? Wait, hold on, let me get the ambulance!" she said all at once as she stood, intending to call for help again.

But Geb held her down, groaning in pain more intensely than before.

"Leave me, Geb! Let me get help so you won't die on me!" Nessy cried desperately, struggling to free herself.

Geb didn't let her go. Instead, he pulled her closer, burying his face in the crook of her neck. "I'm hurting because I know you're hurt. Please don't hurt yourself and stain your beautiful face with tears over nothing. I love you and no one else—and that's what matters." He planted a kiss on her neck before drawing away.

His voice was full of affection. Nessy didn't realize she was tearing up. 'How can he melt me with just mere words?' she thought, overwhelmed. The most important part was that he said the three words she thought she'd never believe in: 'I love you.' And this time, she believed them—and trusted them as well. 'Oh God, what did he do to me?'

"Do you really mean that? I mean, do you really love me?" she asked, tears streaming down her cheeks.

"Of course I do. I love you very much," Geb said reassuringly.

"Are you sure it's not because of my money or influence? I mean, do you truly love me for who I am?" she asked again, touching his face gently.

Geb held her hands and brought them closer to his mouth, kissing her knuckles. He stared into her eyes for a few seconds, unable to believe he could fall this deeply for a mere mortal. He didn't want to go back to his time or stake his claim by Nut's side. He just wanted to be with her—his mortal consort. He wondered if she would want to be with him if she found out who he really was: an ancient god of Egypt undergoing punishment for a crime against the Supreme Father. No one would want to love a rejected god. At that thought, he decided she would never know who he truly was or where he came from.

"Nessy, I love you for who you are now, and I will love you for whoever you will be in the future, with all my will. All I need is for you to trust me and never doubt me or feel insecure about our love. Would you do that for me, baby girl?" Geb asked, pouring all the love and affection he could into his words.

"Yes, sure. I would," Nessy replied with a smile as Geb wiped the tears from her cheeks. "I hope you're not hurting anymore, because I'm fine now," she said, wearing the most beautiful smile Geb had ever beheld in all of Egypt.

"Yes, I'm fine now. There's no need for you to worry about me. Just keep yourself happy, and I'll always be fine," he said, smiling back at her.

Nessy blinked a few times and licked her lips. "Whoa, is it hot in here, or is it just me?" she said, fanning her face with both hands and blushing deeply. "You do know how to flatter someone," she added playfully, slapping his chest.

"Ouch!" Geb said, pretending to feel pain as he played along with the joke, making Nessy giggle softly.

"I'm really sorry about today. I promise it won't happen again," Geb said after their playful moment ended.

"I'm sorry too—for overreacting," Nessy answered as she creased his chest with her hand. "But you should really consider patching things up with your sister, so we can avoid trouble." The way she said 'sister' proved she didn't really believe they were siblings. If they were, why then had she kissed him and called him hers like two lovers reunited after a long time? These thoughts swirled in her mind, but she left them stuck there. She wanted to forget about the woman but still hoped for peace. Even though she was arrogant, this issue concerned Geb enough to make her meek.

Geb read her thoughts and didn't want her to have unanswered questions, so he answered her. "Nut is indeed my sister, and she just has this... thing for me," he said, searching for the right words. He didn't want her to know about his past. Otherwise, she might reject and forsake him like his father did because of his incestuous relationship with Nut, his twin sister. Although he regretted his actions now, they couldn't be changed or reversed. The best option was to leave it in the past, where it rightfully belonged.

"Thing?" Nessy said, confused. "Is she an incest? Or just intense sibling love?" she asked, looking directly into his eyes.

Geb was short of words but had to continue the lie if he wanted a future with Nessy. "It's just intense sibling love. She came all the way from our hometown to this place just to see me. So she had an outburst of emotions."

"Oh, okay. Maybe I can have a proper discussion with her next time—I mean, as a friend of her brother's," Nessy said, not finding the right words to describe their relationship.

"Really?" Geb asked in an alluring voice as he drew closer to her. "Are we friends?"

Nessy took a few steps back. "I don't know what else we are or can be," she asked nervously.

Geb stared directly into her grey orbs and studied them for a few seconds before speaking. "You are just mine—not my friend, but mine."…
