Chapter 84 - An Unexpected Turn

As Tristan sat there he stared into the forest, a thin haze wrapped the trees like a shroud of secrets waiting to be unveiled.

He inhaled deeply, but the weight of exhaustion made the air feel heavy, as he heaved, an oppressive stillness swept through his body.

His body gave out and his vision blurred, but managing to prop himself against a gnarled tree he continued to stare into the forest, his mind unraveling into a tapestry of thoughts.

His eyes were dead, seemingly void of life and his body, broken and weary, seemed to merge with the shadows around him.

A dark, gloomy light fell upon him.

Like a wave of dust, a thick black fog surged forth, swirling like a living entity, it swallowed the trees, shortly after Tristan's was enveloped his form becoming indistinct, like a vague outline against the backdrop of the forest.

Not far from Tristan's gloomy presence shadowy humanoid figures moved cautiously through the mist, their forms illuminated by a strange, flickering light.

In the midst of this group, one figure clutched a lantern, its glow casting elongated shadows that danced upon the fog-laden ground.

Whispers of an arcane language floated through the air, a melodic incantation that sent shivers racing down Tristan's spine.

The atmosphere grew dark and heavy, thick with an impending sense of dread, as the distant sound of bells reverberated through the trees, echoing like a death knell.

Tristan's second sight flickered to life, revealing the humanoid figures drawing closer, yet his chaotic mind was trapped in an emotional tempest.

His blank expression, vacant gaze and disheveled appearance made him look like a specter of despair.

The group moved closer not knowing Tristan was but ankle biting distance from them.

His stomach rumbled at this very moment, which caused the figures ahead to pause and looked around with wary eyes.

They stared at the location in which the noise came from but sensing no immediate threat, resumed their cautious advance.

They soon halted at a clearing, where one of them began to draw intricate symbols upon the ground.

The lantern, possessed by a will of its own, floated above the markings.

The light began to intensify, then beams of light shot up and out into the forest, the lamp then began to pulsate, the process repeating for about 5 times.

This stream of light sliced through the fog like a beacon.

After a few minutes a terrifying cry shattered the tranquility of the forest, reverberating through the trees.

The light calmed and the fog in that area began to dissipate

The trees shook as a massive beast descended into the clearing, its horror could be seen in all its glory.

The creature, a grotesque amalgamation of phantoms and tormented souls, loomed before them, its hollow eyes glinting ominously.

On its back, a massive cage was visible, the anguished weeping of lost souls echoing through the clearing, amplifying the sense of dread.

Perched atop the beast's head was a petite figure, a little girl could be seen holding a whip, her presence, a sinister vibe.

Now that the fog had cleared Tristan could see the figures clearly.

Six tall and slender beings stood, their ears drooping gracefully to their shoulders, 5 men poised with spears and swords, stood next to a small frame.

She was a head shorter than the rest, her figure wrapped in a white clock, but her exposed hands were pale white under the lamp's illumination.

And despite being covered up her curves were prominent but not overly so, it was just right embodying a classic allure.

As she turned and caught sight of Tristan, her eyes widened with a mixture of curiosity and apprehension.

But before she could move closer, the chilling cry of the beast froze her in place. She faced the direction of the cry.

The guards standing around the girl became fearful, their grip on their weapons tightening.

As they stood their tense the leader of the guards walked forward the girl looked back to where Tristan was and paused but the impatient twit lashed at her with the whip.

One of the young men jumped in the way and his waist burst with a spurt of blood and organs.

The elf girls stood there stunned and afraid but a word from the grim leader caused her to move, the little girl pitched a top the beast laughed at the interaction.

Everyone's expression grew dark at the blatant mockery.

The beast opened its mouth and with an inhale tucked them in.

Now that the area was empty the little girl stared at the location the elf girl was looking at earlier.

With a mischievous grin she moved closer, she was now in front of Tristan his presence bleak,

Tristan reacted but not with his body but with his antennas they probed her body, but she felt it, and she also smelt it.

She moved in and spoke to Tristan using telepathy.

"This is the first I've seen anyone complete the fairy race trial."

As she finished her words she was now a hairs breath from Tristan's face, she held his face and caressed it gently.

With a mischievous and sinister grin she said matter of fact.

"You'll be my new plaything."

Tristan's emotional turmoil paused as he thought, 'this king is no. . .

But before he could finish his thoughts a giant maw opened up and with a woosh he was sucked in by the beast

Within a massive dark cage a swirling mass of grey fog appeared and out came Tristan.

He fell to the ground with a loud thud, he sat up, his appearance a sorry one, as his eyes scanned the surroundings he noticed that this bird cage had a bunch of people sitting around their expression filled with despair.

But locating a silent lonely corner near one of the iron bars he went and sat there, then immediately began to meditate.

That swirling grey portal apeared agian but this time it was that evil brat that had entered her eyes were now cold and calculating as she scanned the area after taking some notes she left.

But not too far from Tristan a familiar group sat close together, but the elf upon seeing Tristan moved over, but the guards were obviously against it.

They whispered in a reprimanding tone but not paying heed she moved forward, her white hair white eyes and pale skin made her look extremely delicate and fragile.

As she neared Tristan she spoke her voice, one of authority but Tristan didn't understand the language nor did he care what this peasant wanted to say to this emperor.

So he just sat there, rooted in place. One of the guards who saw this became angry but an older guard stopped him.

Shortly after he calmed down but when he looked back at Tristan it seemed as if he wanted to fight.

But not knowing or caring Tristan began to sink into a deep meditative state, a green light lit between his brows and his presence began to fade

The elves watching this were stunned, how could he, they wondered, and this made the frail beauty more interesting because the dull mark on her forehead reacted.

She sat beside Tristan, her eyes determined.

But the young male elf became jealous and started to secretly hate Tristan.

…

As some time passed, Tristan began to enter the world of the green light.

But this time something was different, atop a mountain Tristan stood his mind puzzled by what was in front.

It was a complete alien tapestry of forest , rivers , mountains and abnormal giant lifeforms moving about.

It was breathtaking, but as he admired the mysterious landscape a bolt of blue lightning struck him with thunderous force.

Tristan was thrown back with massive chunks of earth and piles of dust he landed some distance away with a thud, and shortly after the scene settled.

Tristan who was still reeling from the shock of that lightning strike opened his mouth, and began to drool, with a sudden gust of wind a a cloud of dust slammed into his throat causing him to choke excessively.

Some time passed and Tristan slowly sat up while dust and debris fell off his face.

But his eyes were fixed ahead, in front a holographic display could be seen.
