Chapter 4 - Beginning of new season of Drizzle-roost (Larkin + mini story)

A couple seasons pass and not long ago I've became 6 years old, and I have been learning how to hunt from the local hunter, in truth I took this as a chance to explore these woods and properly clear my head, heck it might be a good practice to understand how to use these bow and arrows which peculiarly enough the hunter never knew nor had an idea what these were, but they think it just look neet.

'Still no sign of any humans in the village though everyone is the species as me, and don't know what exactly what I am. ' Larkin stop for moment to faint sound of a twig cracking in he distance. 'Even though I'm not really complaining they are some perks to this race for better or for worse only time would tell, I'd just need to understand my new body moves. '

It took awhile to pinpoint the origin of the sound where the creature stepped on, and it shouldn't be to far away from it made noise from these creatures can be oddly lax for this season, so it wouldn't be that difficult hunt.

Soon as Larkin carefully made their way to the creature and making sure that the creature doesn't see him, Larkin has his bow ready drawn with arrow in hand it's silently eager to lock in the arrow to it's target.

As Larkin carefully pulled back the arrow completely he'd remember the of how it was given to him and a the conversation that followed.

* Past the when I've become 4 season's old*

"Larkin." As my mother shouted. "The hunter wants to meet him at his shack for your training" she said when I wonder into the entrance of my house. "And he also said to meet him before second light breaks" also added which is nearly going to be in couple of hours.

"Alright then best I make haste." I said with a calm tone in response to my mother. And when I was going to leave my mother ruffle my fur on my head which I'd give a little chuckle in response "Alrighty then take care" when I heard my mother said when I'm running in the distance to the hunters shack.

Along my way I'd spotted those two girls making their way from the woods carrying buckets of water to their mother's home. There was a moment where Larkin slowed down for a moment to recall something interesting about their mother's before he's was born. ' a season before I was born two unknown heavily pregnant women arrived to this small isolated village, no one knows of how they got here, heck even what I was told from my parents they didn't know there was something beyond our village forest boundaries but the villagers had to taken them in, and placed them bit far from the village, and when the time for both of their mother's to give birth both of them wear born not only at the same time but also when last night of the season shifted, if they were twins and only were born for one of the mothers this village would of treated them at as very bad omen and had them killed, but they weren't lucky enough for them superstitious be damned on that night, I haven't nor the others villagers yet talked to them but I always seen them about doing chores, maybe some days I'll maybe have a moment to talk with them after I done with my training.' as I begin to change my pace I'd notice that one of their head was being to shift at my direction ' I'd probably look at them long enough best I hurry to where I need to go it's nearly going to be second light soon.' as two girls see Larkin with his ears down flat and making his way to the hunters shack they both look at each other for a moment and made their way back.

As I make haste to to the Hunter's shack I noticed that he's strolling up towards the door of his own home with slain hunt strung over his back. And That's when I realized within a few minutes of second light, so I decided to make a dash and applying pressure to my footing so I can make it in time and at least try to make make it before the hunter reaches to his door, but before I'm nearly halfway there I-.

*Triped roll over*

'uhgg almost made it' as I complain in my head looking somewhat disgruntled eating dirt and staying laying down prone, my face looking away form the Hunter position.

"Well talk about ruff fall and you'd almost reached my hut before I did." said the hunter, his projecting out toward my direction and I can hear his footsteps change direction to me from the ground due to me having one ear on the ground.

I slowly sit up cross legged and whipping off the dirt off my face and clothes to look fine and change facial expression to a slight smile. "I'm presuming that you're Larkin." the hunter said which I nodded in agreement. "Right... Your parents did said that you don't like to talk often, and curious one from also what I'm told about you. "He said while scratching back of his head, Which I also nodded to that as well.

"Okay before we get started on your training I want to clarify something first, do you want to become a hunter?, some of these creatures can be dangerous during certain seasons and the weather can get harsh to ruff it out at times." He said with firm tone.

Which I responded with a nod and "mhmmm." With a smile.

"All right then, first thing we're doing is learning how to identify a creature and how to properly carve them open, starting with this one on my back." He said with jostle of said creature on his back, while at the same time I finally stand up dusted my lower half of my body and I keep my gaze to the creature unsure what it is?

"Well anyways let's go inside I have somethings to give you." He said while fully tuned his back and then begins to walk to his shack which I follow right behind him.

As we enter his shack they are a clean pile of creature hides that is ready to be prepared to become material and decorations or bartering in one corner, while across the corner of the room must be the table where he carve and butcher the creature with all stains of blood and stray small bones lay about, but besides that some odd right at the base of the table is two sets of bows and a sheaf of arrows. That's because I ever seen him only using a spears whenever the times seen him go hunting and by the looks of it has been collecting a fair amount of dust in the corner untouched.

The hunter walked towards the carving table that which I follow closely behind him. "This here is a Claw-hoof, their quite fast and easily skiddish, if you pursue for too long they will become hostile and be very aggressive until either one is dead." He said while he drop the body of the creature onto the table with resounding thud. "Tell me kid what season we are in? " He said while laying down the tools within arms reache to my side of the table.

"It's Drizzle-rest?, the third season." Larkin said somewhat sure the was correct.

"Well... You're sorta right, it's Drizzle-roost. " The hunter retorted. "This season is when creatures become more lax and make nests to potentially mate with one another throughout the season rotation, which means for us they're plentiful for us and get a large amount of food to stock up fo the scraping-glacier season." The hunter continues his talk. 'yeah that's season is always feel like a sudden and dangerous when it shows up around the corner when changing of seasons but everyone is always prepared and constantly stocking food no matter which season it is like it's going to be the end of days.' Larkin has thought to himself and his personal lacking of experience with said season rotations being 3 years old at the time.

"Well anyways right now let's focus back on what we're doing today, and that's carving this Claw-hoof and make you a knife out it's claws. "He said with somewhat pride for his work, and while gesturing me to grab a carving knife near me. Thus so I began to follow the hunter's instructions on how to drain blood, cut hide and harvest meat from the Claw-hoof, it took a few hours of second light but I handle it well by the hunter's instructions.

"I say you have done well on harvesting the Claw-hoof pretty well, not many could easily follow instructions to a point and having few errors on cutting the hide and flesh of the creature. " The hunter said sounding little impressed on my work on the creature. " How about you have drink the Claw-hoof blood first as reward for successful harvest of a young Hunter. " He said while scooping up a clay cup full of blood.

'as odd how this may be for majority of human beings (besides those who drank snakes blood), I already have far share of consumption of creature blood in my current life diet but usually in small bottles, so drinking from a cup is a natural progression for me to do so. ' as Larkin thinks about he's already have the cupful of creatures blood, and nothing else to mulling things about he already begin to down the cup without hesitation. 'yup the consistency is definitely blood. ' Larkin added to his thoughts casually, and little bit of redness of blood on his lips that without much thought he licked it away.

"Hmmm, give in how the second light outside we may have sometime preparing of making you a weapon early before you begin hunting." the hunter said with forethough on what to do next.

"How about those bow and arrows?" Larkin said with some confusion while pointing at it said set of bows and arrows.

"Hmm? what a bow? And arrows? Are you talking about these things I've found hunting years ago?" The hunter said clearly confused about what is Larkin talking about.

"Uhh? I think it was one of my mom stories that lightly describe about a hunting weapon that matches what it looks like... I think? " Larkin said trying his best to look unsure and confused as he possibly can.

'That boy ain't right.' the hunter thought to himself while giving Larkin a flat look with a raised eyebrow to boot.

"You know what, give a try this could be interesting." The hunter said curious and while humouring Larkin intentions.

'Guess I'm going shoot with a bow.' I thought to myself didn't actually expect I'm going to show on how to use a bow, while grabbing said bow and arrows bringing them over to the the other side of the room facing myself towards the carving table with the remaining carcass of the Claw-hoof, Meanwhile the hunter quietly picked up what's going to happen and decided to stand right beside me on my right side without much thought.

'Ok you got this, never shoot with a bow but there's was one in my past life that was only decorations, besides ones in vr so I have some experience with it.' Larkin thinking to himself while holding the bow in his right hand and getting ready grab a arrow for his left hand.

As Larkin fully drawn bow and arrow now ready to fire ....

*Snap back out of the flash back to the present*

Larkin has cleanly shot at the Claw-hoof with easily which killed the Claw-hoof with one shot.

With an audible *THUMP* from Claw-hoof fall onto the ground Larkin has lower his bow and begins to slowly walk to the now corpse of the creature, but also being observant to surrounding location especially at the ground.

"!" That's when Larkin noticed something something transparent with a faint blue-ish green hue moving slowly to the Claw-hoof corpse.

*THWACK* 'Damn these Goo-gi trying to get a free meal from someone else's hunt, these ambush predators sure are opportunistic creatures.' Larkin though to himself while striking the Goo-gi's core with enough force to instantly killing the creature. ' though as much you have to keep open eye when sleeping out here they make a good quick emergency meals or even yet when goo slightly harden enough can make clear containers that I discovered myself but you have to have to make it right there and then... They somehow dry out same all the same pace even in this season as well.' Larkin continued his thoughts.

"That's third one for this light it's going take awhile to back home from this distance with two claw-hoof's on my back, I'll probably get back home by second dark?" Larkin said speaking out my thoughts to myself and while tying up my second hunt with some rope so I can carry it on my back.

*Huff* "Okay the first claw-hoof I've hunted should be hooked up onto a tree aways back, so I should make haste before any creature try to take my game." Larkin said while being to making his way back to the first claw-hoof that her hunted of the second light.
