Chapter 2 - Chapter 1: To Be Someone’s Sun

Ezra Bridger leaned against the café wall, scrolling idly on his phone.

Mickey had been in the bathroom forever. Seriously, what kind of war is he fighting in there? Ezra shook his head with a faint smirk.

The craving for something sweet tugged at him. A mango smoothie. Yeah, that'd kill the wait. He grabbed one for himself—and then, on impulse, another. A homeless old woman, bundled in worn layers, sat nearby on the curb.

Ezra looking at the old lady, crouches down. "Here. You look like you could use this."

Her face lit up with gratitude, wrinkled and warm. "Bless you, child."

As she stood up, shuffling toward the crosswalk, the world changed in a blink.

A black bmw screamed down the road, engine snarling like a beast off its leash. Tires squealed. People shouted. Ezra's eyes widened. The bmw was headed her way.

Without hesitation, he ran. His smoothie dropped, splattering golden across the pavement. He shoved Kathy out of the way just in time and then the impact hit him like thunder.

The world blurred, sound fading into silence. He hit the asphalt, the midday sun burning into his eyes. His breath hitched. His lips curved into the faintest smile.

"To be able… to be someone's sun."

Ezra's thoughts drifted. If only I could've done more. If only I could've saved those anime characters whose worlds were doomed…

[SYSTEM NOTICE: Gacha Summoning acquired — Star-Man Mode.]

If only I could master everything in my next life… not just one skill, but all of them, to their fullest.

And my hidden trump card… the will of Superman and Spider-Man. To face impossible odds, to keep moving forward, to never give up on tomorrow.

Heh… wouldn't be so bad if my next stop was a dungeon…

[SYSTEM NOTICE: DanMachi 544-B — New Homeworld locked.]

Mickey's voice broke through the haze, desperate and raw.

"Man, don't die on me! Our kids were supposed to be the next us. The Broship!"

Ezra coughed, blood pooling at his lips. He forced his trembling hand upward, finger pressing weakly against Mickey's chest. Right over his heart.

"Carry the hope for tomorrow… Live for me, my brother…" His voice was faint but steady. "Be amazing. Be spectacular. Be fantastic. I… I'm proud of you, Mickey."

The last Ezra hear from Mickey. "EZRAAAAA NOOOOOOOO!"

The light in his eyes dimmed, the world fading to black.
