Chapter 2 - New School, Same Dangers

I can still smell the blood-filled air from way back home as if I was there. Hah. Like I would want to be there.

The rising sun peaked through the trees, momentarily blinding me in flashes of "fuck yous" as I walk along the path towards my new school.

The smell, however, is by far the most irritating thing on this walk. The scent's very strong—there must be more werewolves in this town than I thought. Like a perfume store that only produced the most random conceptual fragrances they could think of and then throw it all on one shell so you a sample whiff of everything.

I can't believe I thought that this town would get me away from the supernatural stuff. Instead, I brought myself straight into the beast's den. It was too expensive to get here, and I sure as hell don't have the money to go somewhere else. So I'm stuck here. Oh joy.

The welcoming doorbells do nothing to heighten my spirits as I walk through the front office till I get to a secretary lady.

"Ma'am?" I grab her attention. "I just transferred here. Is there anything I need to do?"

The lady stopped chewing her gum, and glared at me as if I had just ruined her morning.

"What's your name?" She grunted.

"Graham. Graham Woods."

The woman's fingers typed swiftly across the keyboard, making me wonder how long she's worked here.

After a few seconds, she handed me a paper that had a map of the school and my schedule. Thanking her, I made my way towards my first class.

There was still time before classes started, so I wasn't surprised when I entered the classroom and it was almost empty.

I walked towards a human, who was probably in their sixties. "Hello sir," I paused, "I just transferred here. Is there anything I need to know before class starts?"

The teacher looked back at me. He moved his head, saying 'no', and told me to just introduce myself when class starts.

(Luke's POV)

By the time I had reached the school, the first bell would ring in a few minutes. I had been working to try to come to an agreement with the nearby Synth pack. It had taken longer than I expected. Their stubborn headstrong-leader had me wait for an hour just to speak to him.

As I walked through the halls, very few pack mates and friends attempted to converse with me. The meeting still left a bitter taste on my mood.

I opened the door to my first class, acknowledged Mr. Smith, and took my seat near the back of the class. The bell erupted right as I sat in my seat.

Mr. Smith quickly gathered the class's attention, "We have a new transfer student today. They just moved here, so please try not to make him regret moving here."

Small groups of people gossiped about the new-comer before a deep, sultry voice put everyone in silence.

"Hello, I'm Graham Woods. I recently turned eighteen, and just recently moved here." The man smiled gently.

I refocused my attention towards the senior, who had an amiable, yet aloof air around them. His calm voice had raised goosebumps across my arms.

I peered into his deep, almond shaped, honey-filled eyes and only mystery stared back. His wavy light brown hair rested on the top of his head, slowly becoming curly the closer it got to his forehead.

I realized I had been staring for too long when I heard his voice closer, "Whatcha looking at?"

This time, he was sitting beside me and looking directly at me. I slightly jumped back, mumbling.

"Nothing," I lied.

"Okay". I couldn't tell if he believed my lie or not, but he didn't push for anything more.

For most of the class I was spacing out, and his face would appear in front of me. I had started to get frustrated. I was already dealing with the Synth pack and now-

"Luke, I trust that you can show Graham around the school?" Mr. Smith inquired, breaking me from the turmoil inside my mind. I looked towards the teacher before looking back at Graham.

"I'm sure I will be fine sir, the front desk lady gave me a map." Graham stood up, packing his notebooks into his bag and getting up to leave.

Mr. Smith however only gave him a skeptical look before responding.

"I believe that you will be fine, but I'd rather not get chewed out for not sending someone," he chuckled.

"Alright."

Luckily, it turns out Graham and I have all of the same classes, so I'm not in much of a rush.

"Ay, Luke, how was it?" My best friend, Caleb, wrapped his arm around my neck. "Who's this?" He motioned towards Graham with his head.

"I'm Graham, nice to meet you."

He smiled warmly towards Caleb, making me question why there was such a difference in reaction between him and I.

"I can reach my class from here Luke, Thank you!" He quickly began to rush off before I could stop him. I sighed.

"What?" I looked at Caleb who was snickering.

"Why'd you look so sad when he left?"

I looked at him in disbelief. "I did?" He nodded, before cheekily smiling at me.

"You looked like a husband that just upset their wife- Hey, I'm not lying!" I just glared at him before shaking my head.
