Abaddon drove out of necessity.
Sometimes, when mentoring kids, they don't come from the best home environments.
There were occasions when, after practice, Abaddon and the other coaches would have to take kids home whose parents didn't show. Not because they weren't able, but because they either weren't sober or couldn't be bothered.
At least five kids on the team had parents like that. A small amount, all things considered.
Abaddon took those kids home after practice most days. He stopped at a restaurant and got them all food, and even took them to get groceries if they asked.
Sometimes, the kids cried. Football was literally all they had, and their one opportunity to make splendid money and get themselves out of poverty.
That was what everyone around them told them. Abaddon hated to hear someone say that nonsense. It pressured the children and robbed them of a pure love for the game.
Abaddon loved football a lot. It was his favorite pastime.
