Chapter 510 - Arc 11.110: Dark Night of the Soul part 5

Orb quickly calming down from looks down at Elia, whose head hangs low, realising the depths of his rambling, and says, "Umm, I didn't mean that in an overly negative way. I still think the idea of God served multiple uses in history, like as I said, a means to practise restraint, or even explain the world around. It can give a sense of comfort to those who are suffering, and communities around it can help provide more stability. It still serves multiple purposes, and if it wasn't for it, Captivant would have never found me, so I have great respect for the efforts of those who have used it throughout time."

Elia, swaying her head from side to side as they move around the dance floor, raises it up and says, "When are you finally going to allow Willow and Maple to sleep with each other?"

"WHAT!" Orb shouts.

Seeing eyes move towards him, he quiets down and says, "I am never going to allow them to have se-se-sexual relations in my home! On my bed!"

"Why not?"

"Because, because, because, because. Just no, there is no other reason."

Clicking her tongue, Elia says, "God is watching."

Staring at her in a tense frustration, he says, "It can't happen, or otherwise they would be closer with each other than they are with me."

"Very selfish, Orb."

"So what!"

"How do you even know when they are going to have sex?"

"Because he is my friend, and I trust in him. I know how much he adores every aspect of Maple, and I know that if left by themselves for too long, physical interactions will take place between the two of them without a doubt. That's why I must hurry up."

"That's rather creepy, to have so much faith in Willow's behaviour to figure out and know every single time he wants to engage in such actions with Maple."

"It's simple pattern recognition. If Willow acts like B, due to stimulus A consistently, I have no reason to believe he won't consistently act in such a way."

"I don't see such behaviour from Willow."

"That's because you lack key data, since you aren't close to him. You can call this our best friendship bond data!"

"Instead of using your best friend bond to work against his wishes, you could always use it to help him, and maybe once it ends, you'll get a little mini Willow and Maple to play around with."

As the idea of a baby made from Willow and Maple crosses Orb's mind, his hair turns bright pink, before a shining blue. Controlling his emotions, he says, "You're a rather skilled temptress, aren't you?"

"You just happen to give your friendship bond data to everyone you whore. Don't blame me for misusing it."

"Try all you might, but I am a man of intense mental and spiritual strength. If you think you can lead me astray with your words, you have another think comin-."

"Orb Jr." Orb's heart smashes apart, causing him to buckle as they move, and for a brief moment, fall onto Elia, who, using this moment, whispers in his ear, "Uncle, I love you."

In a single moment, a large amount of happiness burst forth from his brain all throughout his body, and for a few seconds, as they dance, Orb stays in a daze, causing Elia to laugh.

Regaining his mind, Orb pulls back and hisses at her. "Calm down, doggy. You don't have to get so violent over this."

"Is this some kind of intricate torture for what I said earlier?"

"Maaaaaaaaaybe."

"I already apologised in a sense, but if it wasn't clear, I am sorry if I was overly rude or dismissive of something you care about. I think I have been becoming closer to you, and I don't want something like this to cause you to hate me."

"Orb, no need to worry about that. I already hate you," Elia says with a bright smile."

"Huh! Is this really because of what I said? If so, like before I apolo-."

Putting her finger on Orb's lips, Elia says, "Orb, I have hated you since I first had the displeasure of hearing Iancu talking about you. He was desperately holding your unconscious body and ranting about all you had done for him. Because Orb, I happen to be a jealous and vengeful person."

"I don't think you are?"

"That's because you lack the best friendship bond data. Orb, truthfully, you know very little about me and the type of person I was, and still am. Your words are kind but lies. If you met me 10 years ago, I wouldn't have even entertained any of you words you have spoken to me. You'd have been nothing more than dirt underneath my foot."

"Yet you still speak to me now?"

"Yes, and there is only one person I can thank you for that, the Messiah."

"I'm sorr-."

"Don't apologise. It's pointless if we cannot speak freely about how we feel about things; nothing will be solved. Though I will say, you did make a mistake, Orb. I don't stand by the Messiah because of comfort, or restraint, or even community, or a sense of self. I do because he is my friend."

"Friend? But to be friends, you need to have some sort of communication."

"I do. Through prayer, I grant my wishes, stress, anxiety, and love onto god, and in response, thoughts, images, ideas, dreams, and miracles are granted onto me to help me move forward."

Orb with silver hair holds his tongue, but Elia says, "Remember what I said."

Sighing out, Orb says, "Isn't that just confirmation bias? As far as you know, you could have just given reasons for that after the fact. Especially with how nebulous thoughts, images, ideas, dreams and miracles can be? For someone like you, this is an obvious thing to realise."

"You're right, Orb, I would come to the same conclusion, but I happen to be quite critical of myself. In my head, there is one version of me thinking, another version of me criticising those thoughts, and a version of me criticising the critic six times over. Despite all of that, I was never able to figure out one thing: how to combat the evil in my heart. There was no fix, no change, and all the conclusions I came to ended in failure. Making the pit of loneliness grow stronger and stronger until it rotted all aspects of me away. So I killed my emotions and just accepted it as it was. Yet in that darkness, a single friend reached out their hand to be with me, talk with me, support me, guide me and love me. The Messiah, God. I was reignited for the first time in my life. I wasn't alone; I had someone by my side every single second I was alive, and that allowed me to break out of that abyss of emotion that I had become. No one is more aware of themselves than I am, Orb and I know the words, the ideas, the thoughts, and the power planted in my hand were not something I had within me beforehand. That's how I know God exists, yet it sounds funny, doesn't it?"

"Of course it does. You have quite literally used what could be called pride as your justification. A trust in your ability to see yourself objectively, and a trust in your friends that they won't see you as insane. It is a tall ask, and I don't know if anyone can have that much faith in another person's words. But I will believe in you."

With a slight smile of anger, Elia says, "You're not getting a kiss for that. I treat those who misuse my friend and abuse their authority for the sake of their own goals as the lowest of scum."

"I am no such person. I am someone who asks a lot of people around me constantly. To trust in my ideals, to trust in my power, to trust in my love, in the face of nearly insurmountable odds, and they do because their my friends and family. They trust in the person they have seen, and I want to do that for you.

I want to be your friend, Elia, and I want to know you so well that when you say something that my mind simply can't believe, I will be able to believe it through you. It is said that the Messiah performed multiple miracles like the creation of the holy tree Cordum, and if he exists, I want to see the grand miracles he performs in your life."

Staring deeply into Orb's eyes, Elia spins with him as they keep their minds focused solely on each other. Moving closer, Orb smiles and says, "How about it?"

"Yeah, I really don't like you."

"WHA? That was a sweet moment."

"You're way too good at saying the right things to get people to instantly obsess over you. It's kind of gross. Like you have the brain of a high-end prostitute."

"How is that a bad thing?"

"Because you're really dumb, yet also really smart at the same time. It consistently makes me lost for words, whether you are actually so smart and are playing everyone, or if you're just that big of a buffoon that it doesn't connect how your behaviour comes across to everyone else. Truthfully, I am pretty sure the reason the Messiah gave you that freaky hair change thing was to keep you in line."

Orb's hair shifts through a series of colours before landing on green, and saying, "You think I am smart!"

"You're lucky that the Messiah exists, or I would have removed a chaotic variable like you from this world the moment you opened your mouth."

"That doesn't sound like the words of a woman who has apparently been reformed by the power of the Messiah."

"I happen to have come a long way; I was far worse in the past. The Messiah has made me a rather kind and comedic person."

"Your existence is funny, I will give you that."

"I would step on you, but I would have you no that no violence shall be committed for the sake of my ego."

"Yet excessive buying is?"

"I would have you know that I told Stelara to charge it all to the three Ministers instead of the taxpayer."

"Smart. I should have thought of that."

"If you want, I can give you a long course on all the methods needed to achieve this level of brilliance?"

"I am good, Elia, I can just have enough fun dancing around with you."

"Really, but aren't you supposed to be looking out for another woman. What was her name again, ahh, Viata?"

Orb lowers his head as an evil glare pierces his face.

"I guess you were just going to toss me aside once you found her, so you can all dance together, get married and join the Nightfall family."

"I have no intentions of getting married to her or at all, I just want to have a relationship similar to me and the rest of Aplos."

"I doubt that, you've been constantly looking around the room scowering for when Dragoste arrives, so you can give him that gift in the corner along with Captivant's letter."

With bright blue hair, Orb turns his head over to an excessively large wrapped gift, and says, "Is it too much? NO! That doesn't matter; none of that does, because I am here with you. I want to dance with you Elia, no matter what else might be happening."

Placing her right palm against Orb's face as they swing around, Elia says, "Then focus all your attention on she who stands in front of you for the duration of this dance. Because she has something to ask you."

With the rest of the world fading around him, Orb says, "Say whatever you want, I will listen wholeheartedly."
