Inside the hall,
Angelina's jaw tightened.
The Black Hound Legion was Angus's personal force, bound to him even when they served the empire, and now they have rebelled against the empire. Their presence at Mari'am Hills meant only one thing.
Outside, Jaegar listened as his friends explained what they had learned.
"The Ministry is moving already," Arthur said.
"They're sending wizard squads across the region. We heard they're planning to come here, to this area."
"They're coming for you, Jaegar," Imogen added quietly.
Veronica's eyes locked onto Jaegar's, and there was something in that gaze that made his chest tighten.
"They're sending a squad specifically to find you. The ministry knows that your father may come for you, too. They're calling it a precautionary measure, but it feels like more than that."
Jaegar felt the pieces clicking into place: the invitation from Angus, the appearance of the structure, and the ministry's response.
