With solemn expressions, Charles and Tuba had already arrived at the center of Well City, where the Paper Rabbit could leap a considerable distance with each jump in the air.
He looked down at the peculiar city below, where the buildings were very strange. Most of them weren't standing straight but appeared crooked, as if they were too tired to stand and seemed about to lie down at any moment.
It seemed that some kind of creature was inhabiting Well City. These beings moved back and forth like ants. Due to the distance, Charles could not discern what they were, but they were certainly not human.
"Those are 'them', the original inhabitants of the great tree. They live by piecing together and absorbing the little energy that radiates from the God, and that's why they have settled here," Tuba explained to Charles.
