Chapter 64 - a look back

Scarlet stared at grey face after he questioned why she was here. "Awww no thoughts about how I found you~"

Grey stared sternly deep into her eyes without fear which caused a jolt to run up her spine causing her to smile wildly.

"You probably left something on me to track me down somehow and now your here because you want something am I right?" Grey asked with a tired tone.

"Hmmph! Your no fun little snack, but yeah your right."

"Hunter the old leader of the fox tribe was gods at many things fighting being one of the other was making enemies everywhere he went so we are in a tight spot and need allies that won't attack us."

Karma looked at her weirdly "since when did you speak harmony? I thought you only spoke foxenes."

"Oh that after meeting the lil snack I decided we needed to broaden our understanding of other beast as they are surprisingly useful." She said with the same devious smile she always had.

Golo stepped up "forget all that, do you really think the rabbits will live alongside the foxes right after the major battle you had, not to mention I'm sure a few of your tribesmen also have hard feelings… maybe somewhere in the far future but at this very moment it's not possible."

Grey suddenly had a idea "how strong are the enemies your facing now maybe we can help each other out?" Grey looked serious which surprised everyone

"Jajajaja I knew I could count on you lil sna- I mean lil leg." Greys ears twitched in anger but didn't say anything since lil leg is better than toy or snack.

"Ok so he made enemies with the wolf tribe, snake tribe, rabbit tribe, lizard tribe and other fox tribes and all are of various tiers so we have too many enemies and not many of us left so we need help."

~sigh~ "man I thought when I became the leader of my tribe all my problems would disappear but they seem to have tripled."

Grey chuckled at her misery before turning to golo "hey mister leader do you only want your revenge or do you want the land back too?"

Golo seemed to realize what grey was getting at and thought hard for a few seconds "honestly? It's just me and cocoa that escaped from our territory and we seem to be enjoying our new lives here so if we get rid of the frog kin I wouldn't mind the foxes move in as long as they won't attack us."

Scarlet nodded vigorously "of course lil leg and his friends killed hunter who treated me like a servant as long as I am treated like the queen I am I don't mind a small territory."

"Yeesh, her ego is similar to Maria's." That comment earned Tony a slap from a nearby flower that grew just to whip him.

"OWCH! I'm sorry I didn't mean it in a bad way I just meant tha-!" Tony earned another plant slap that shut him up.

Grey continued while Maria punished Tony a bit more "Ok so hear me out we are trying to get rid of the that took over my friends land and killing all the old residents. You help us kill them and you can live there how about it?"

Scarlet thought hard for a moment "hmm I can only spare ten or twelve warriors plus myself is that enough?"

Grey and scarlet looked towards golo for an answer. "Yeah we will regroup here in five days and attack them together." He said.

Blitz jumped in "actually if your going to meet up and go to war with the beasts that literally just attacked us! You can do so outside the misty hills to prevent a panic from happening."

Everyone looked at her like they only just now

realized the problems it would cause if a bunch of warrior foxes entered a rabbit filled area.

"Ok see all you in five days." Scarlet said before disappearing.

Rex slowly walked up to golo with maria on her head both had tired look. "Can we go to sleep now since we already went over the important stuff, we are really tired."

Golo just nodded "yeah fine everyone can go to sleep now but train well because we will be going to battle soon."

Grey quickly disappeared and appeared near his family's new home he stared at them from a distance somberly his body shaking before walking away.

"I can't speak with them yet. I'll just sleep in my tree again." Walked into a tree that seemed to be hollowed out.

Grey laid down in a leaf bed and fell asleep.

He soon awoke in his lucid lad and walked pass Adam after saying hello.

Grey soon locked himself in a training room and thought hard about everything that happened so far trying to make sense of all the rapid changes to his life.

But a few past memories were more vivid than others.

The memories of using sounds to fight causing extreme pain and injuries.

How screaming with his rune made his throat feel like it was on fire.

How eventually the vibrations just made his whole body numb and the pain decreased drastically but so did his sense of touch.

Which is probably why his chimera transformations didn't hurt after the first time and it got worse after he unconsciously ran back home nonstop.

"Hmm it seems my body is losing its sense of touch? At this rate I'll be unable to feel anything, dammit the elder was right my rune is really a double edged sword I need be more careful just because I no longer feel the pain doesn't mean I'm not getting injured."

Then a memory of golo saying something along the lines of power doesn't have to be destructive made grey review all his previous battles differently.

All the battles that he took less damage in and survived with fewer injuries were the ones were he supported others instead of fighting on the frontlines.

"Hmm it seems that supporting others is my specialty but I've been fighting like a brawler, the moves that didn't cause me any harm were the ones without combat effects."

Speed, sound step, echo location, lost whisper, voice mimic and his surpringly most used ability Translation.

Grey started focusing on the sounds outside his body feeling every vibration as he sat down quietly in the dark.

For the next three days grey was diving deep into the vibrations around him and experimenting.

Karma slow approached grey who seemed to be meditating as the air around shook violently.

"I never took you for the meditative type I mean the only time your not moving is when your laying down." Karma stated with a smug smile

"Hey karma what do you want now?"

Karma shook his head in disbelief "you sound so happy to me?" He said sarcastically.

"Anyways your mom wanted me to talk to because you seem to be avoiding them since the big battle. Since then you've training and and sleeping somewhere else after checking up on them? They just can't to see you and make sure your ok so what's up?" Karma asked in a patient voice.

Grey looked at him before dropping on his back and staring at the distant sky in all its glory.

"I… I can't see them yet. Not only am no longer a rabbit but a beast with no form, but I also can no longer feel things like the warmth of a hug or the cold wind of the night."

Karma just stared at the obviously distressed grey. "So not only are you losing you sense of touch but your afraid of what the will see you as now."

Grey looked at him his golden eyes quivering "I tried my best to avoid thinking about but every time I get close to them I get this pain in my heart and worry that my siblings will see me as a monster or that my mother will break into tears because I literally sold myself off!"

Greys eyes teared up as he nearly screamed at the end.

"I'm not the same person they once know I'm a abomination called a chimera most others species hate chimeras and fear us as creatures that eat others to grow. I didn't ask to become one it just kinda happened."

Karma tried to jump in but was quickly spoken over by grey again.

"I mean I'm grateful but now I'm not only a monster but I'm also putting them in danger by being near them, no matter what I do I'm the bad guy so what else can I do but avoid them?"

Karma looked grey sourly "buddy listen up, you've always been good at avoiding your feelings and problems until it's too late. Even better at worrying more about others than yourself but just think this over calmly."

"You have a Demi god of dreams protecting your home first off so they won't be in any danger, second you literally sacrificed a lot to save them I'm sure they still love you I mean you talked to them for a bit before the fights and a little after so why continue avoiding them. You even sent Tony to your mother instead of introducing them why?"

Grey glanced at him for a moment "at those times I was so focused I didn't worry about it but every time I try going home my mind is clouded knowing I'm not the same rabbit they once knew."

"Your literally about to face off against beast stronger than you in two days with a group of foxes but instead of dying your afraid of your family's view on you now? If you go into that battle without confronting them you might leave with a bunch of regrets that could kill you or your allies."

Karma left grey there to think back on all the memories he had with his family. "I hope I'm still me with all my heart." He said to himself as he continued to stare at the sky.
