Chapter 16 - Round two; Tentacle monster (3)

Round two; tentacle monster (3)

Unlike the battle at the river it was the monster in attack this time around while me and Celestine defended desperately whilst also trying to exploit its weakness. Its weakness being its main body, I suspect, as any tentacle severed grew up in an instance. But the monster proved itself to be a despicable creature indeed as it sent us wave after waves of relentless attacks so we couldn't even get close to its main body. We realized soon enough too that the damn thing was really stronger than we had thought; my mind blitz and Celestine's ice bombs could only slow it at best.

But that doesn't mean we couldn't hurt it though, as we were both versatile.

Celestine could both create shields that blocks its attacks and shoot sharp icicles at it that causes it lots of trouble and pain. As for me, apart from mind blitz I could control the bugs in the air. At first I only controlled the ones in the valley but later I widened my range to capture the bugs in the forest to swarm at the monster. That proved more effective than I thought. Plus it helped that unlike intelligent beings I could control numerous insects at the same time. I just have to call them, then program them to attack the monster by default and only it. It was crazy.

As I said, that actually troubles the monster that the first time I did it it was forced to show its powers. Blue electricity ran on its body and a small range shockwave spread out in a circle with the creature at the center killing the whole insects in its range. When that happened its attack intensified. This time though, as I saw it drawing back wildly trying to deal with the bugs, I turned to Celestine. I realized early that like humans anytime the creature is about to use its powers something spikes up in its mind, like a signal, so to get enough time for this conversation I mind blitz it anytime it's about to activate its ability, stopping it and greatly frustrating it.

"Say princess do you have any move that can kill this thing?" I asked. "This fight is not going anywhere,"

Celestine frowned. "Of course I have. If it'll give me the time to use it!!"

"How much time?"

"Maybe five minutes.....? Why?"

"You pull back and prepare it, I'll buy the time."

"This guy's powerful, how?"

I gave Celestine a grave look. "It's us or it," I told her, "just do your part to end this, I'll find a way somehow," you might have guess from my way of fighting that I couldn't keep up mind blitz for extended periods of time; if I was fighting against a human I might risk it and push at its mind insistently until I shatter it, but the creature's mind felt far more formidable than a human's, and I fear I might just end up shattering my mind instead.

A little lapse of concentration from me and the creature activated its powers, the bugs I painstakingly gathered were wiped out in an instance. I mind blitz it again as Celestine drew back then stepped forward into its personal space to start my attack. In these five minutes I have to overwhelm it convincingly with my martial ability so it doesn't have time to think of the little princess. I started swinging my sword skillfully, cutting off the monster's attack while moving in a way it'll hardly get me. I had read its movement from earlier and knew awkward angles that are difficult for its tentacles to bend, some even collides with each other as they sought me and gave me more openings to punish the monster. I know it'll come up with countermeasures in time, but by that time I hope Celestine's ready.

I blocked the attacks sent at me with my sword while holding the katana with both hands and swung at the monster in rapid counterattacks. I was surprise and delighted as I pushed it back, the creature shrieked in surprise too but I only grew bolder. Darting this way and that as I sent a fury of sword attacks that will make a ronin proud. Hmm... This is like 47 ronin isn't it? A samurai fighting a monster with just his sword and strange powers. How cool!!!

The tentacle monster seemed to have read my mind as it didn't want me to be cool anymore. It started twisting its tentacles around me in an odd way to attack me from behind instead of its direct form of attack till now. That actually slowed my momentum as defending got harder. I tripped on tentacles placed on my way, I'm probed by tentacles from behind. This is no good Mr tentacles, I thought, Celestine is looking at me I can't look pathetic. Ah, pathetic, I am using ironman's joke!

I decided I have to be a little reckless if I hope to succeed. The strategy of the enemy demands that. I lifted my head and looked at the creature's main body beyond the wall of tentacles; each tentacle was as big as my lap and between them my eyes and the monster's met.

I feigned that its trick got the better of me as I tripped on a tentacle then twisted as I fell and rolled forward through a little space the tentacles didn't block. Suddenly the world dimmed as tentacles surrounded me even from above, blocking the sun. And I had an unobstructed view of the monster's main body. You are surprised right squidward? I thought, you didn't imagine I'll do that right?

I started running towards it. The creature had sent its tentacles to attack me a little far away from its body so there was considerable space between us. The tentacles around me wriggled in response to my cheeky move; for a moment my heart skipped as I thought they'll collapse atop me, but for some reason the creature didn't do that, it just pulled out individual tentacles to attack me.

I cut the tentacles as I ran to it, then suddenly I was before it.

I didn't hesitate to to stab my sword into its eyes, a great shower of green liquid mixed with red flew and the creature shrieked. I screamed in horror too. I might be wicked but I have never fought a monster before. Then I felt the monster activate its powers but could not react quickly. A powerful shock ran through my body then I was sent flying by a tentacle hitting me on the chest. I felt myself fly out of the tentacle barrier and collided against the cliff wall before falling on the ground. My head hurt, my body numb and twice painful; they was this insistent ringing in my head. I coughed and groaned the somehow sat up leaning against the cliff wall to see what was happening.

Celestine was facing the monster from the other part of the cliff. Around her was a blue frost aura and between her hands a ball of frost spun. The monster's body and tentacles were covered with blue electricity and it flew in the air facing the girl. It started throwing rocks at her with its tentacles but anything that came close to her turned into ice and fell to the ground. The monster started to panic and attempted to fly towards her and end this itself. That's when Celestine looked up, her eyes were scary. The world seemed to stop as she sent the ball of ice at the monster. The monster realized its mistake too late that it had came too close to avoid the attack.

Then in panic it shrieked and gathered its tentacles before it like a shield. The frost ball hit, eroding the monster's tentacles like acid in an instance. It screamed and fell as most of its tentacles disappeared. Even those that remained broke and fell off as it landed on the ground. They didn't regrow. "Is it dead?" Celestine asked.

"Yes," I nodded as I felt its mind disappear from my sensing.

"So it's over?"

"No," I frowned as I looked at the monster.

Please leave a review. it's my oxygen.
