Random City, USA 12:35 AM 12/31/2057
On top of a thirty-story building on a cold rainy night, we find someone standing at the edge of the building. Through the rain we can see him failing at holding back tears as he mutters to himself "Why why why why why why why does it hurt, why do I lose everyone that remotely cares, why do I want to jump? Why does this loneliness follow me everywhere why do the days get harder …. Why can't it just end."
This sad young man's name is Dean. Throughout his eighteen years of life, all he has known is loneliness and sadness from his first memories of the orphanage where he was always the one to watch other children be adopted as he was left behind. Where he named the unwanted, where people avoided him like the plague. Even through all this in the earlier years, he tried to hold on and keep a positive attitude but as the years pass by it this positive attitude slowly devolves further and further into a pessimistic and angsty mindset. To cope with this, Dean slowly isolates himself to shield himself from the disappointment of life. On this day the final nail had been placed in the coffin when the caretaker of the orphanage where he was raised passed away the only one to try and comfort and accept him. The one who tried to help him keep a positive mindset to remind him that every day is a new day with new possibilities. With the final light in his life snuffed out there was nothing left to hold him back.
"I am sorry Veronica. I know you told me this wasn't the answer, but I need to escape. I need to escape this pain and misery; maybe I can just see you in the afterlife." As Dean says this, we see him start to move his foot over the edge and close his eyes as the tears continue to fall. Suddenly while he moves his foot further over the edge and leans forward, everything freezes. While everything freezes all of a sudden, a ripple occurs in the space right over the edge of a building and a humanoid shape shrouded in light suddenly appears.
"Listen young one, I can see the pain you hold deep within your soul, but this is not the time nor the place for your life to end. Instead, let me give you the chance to gain what you never had, companionship, let me give you the chance to find your way in a new world with a fresh start. Let me help you start anew." Says the mysterious figure as he reaches his hand out to Dean. As Dean stares at the mysterious figure words from the former caretaker Veronica echo in his mind. "Although life may be hard and seem as if it is intentionally out to get you, there is a way, there is hope." With these words coursing through his head, Dean hesitantly reaches out his hand to grab the mysterious figure's hand. Although sadness and other emotions are still clouding his mind, he grasps the mysterious figure's hand in the hopes that maybe what he said is true and that he can find the missing part of him and fill the void in his soul.
As Dean's hand grasps the mysterious figures the space around them ripples and everything starts to go black. As Dean lost consciousness, it was only faint, but he swears he could hear the mysterious individual say.
"I do not know how you ended up here Veronica but with this, I hope that I could fulfill a last wish of yours to allow this young one another chance."
This was the last thing Dean could remember. This was the last memory of his life on earth from there everything was black as he fell into a deep slumber, only to start anew when he awakens.
