Chapter 18 - Past Memories

(3rd person Pov)

[In the Cave]

"Man, I am really hungry right now," Ray said while looking at his stomach. It was growling extremely from hunger. Ray hasn't eaten anything for the past two days and because of this, his stomach was growling.

'Wait for a little bit longer little guy, I'll soon fill you up' Ray thought while walking out of the cave. As soon as he walked out of the cave, his mouth hung open.

He opened his mouth so wide that one could see his insides. The view in front of Ray was so beautiful that it was almost impossible to exist in the real world.

Ray never thought he'd see something so beautiful in his life. The beauty of the view took over his heart. All his thoughts vanished into thin air. He felt as if he could stare at the view in front of him forever and would never get bored.

'This is literal heaven,' Ray said while moving his head in a circular motion to get a clearer view of his surroundings.

The sun has just risen and there was a waterfall falling just a few metres away from him. The upper surface of the leaves contained water droplets in the form of mist in them.

Huge trees surrounded the area and gave a cozy feeling. Long and thick vines extended from these trees to the bottom of the waterfall.

There were apples and some kind of bluish fruit growing on the upper branches of the trees which Ray didn't know about. Views like the one in front of him made Ray thankful for his life.

They gave Ray the strength and the determination to work hard. They also brought peace to his heart and mind. When he saw something as beautiful as the view in front of him, all his worries vanished into thin air.

'Let's sit here for some time,' Ray said and walked towards the edge of the waterfall.

The height of the waterfall was almost 1800 metres and the sound caused by the falling water sounded like thunder.

Ray sat at the edge of the waterfall while crossing his legs and looking at the bottom of the waterfall.

"Phew, I wonder what will happen to me if I fall from here," Ray said while whistling. His voice was hardly audible because of the sound of the waterfall. He wouldn't dare to imagine what would happen to him if he fell from where he was sitting.

If he landed in the water, he might be able to survive but if he landed on some rock, he would definitely get squashed like a bug and become dead meat.

While Ray was busy thinking of stupid things, something came into his mind and he became silent. The smile on his face vanished and he looked at the sky while thinking of something.

The silence surrounded Ray in such a way that even the thunderous roar of the gushing water was inaudible to him.

Soon a pair of tears trickled down his eyes and a few words escaped his mouth, "I miss you, dad, I wish you were here. I know you told me you'll always be with me but I still miss you. I wonder how you and mom are doing. Are you both healthy? Do you miss me? Did you cry when you came to know that I died? I am sorry for being such a useless son."

Even after saying so much, Ray didn't stop. It was as if he had lost it. He continued, "Till the end, I was a burden to you both. I don't know how I got here but I'm going to try everything I can to come back. I'll find the bastard who's behind all of this. Do you both know, I was about to die multiple times but every time I overcame the obstacles. It's dangerous here, but this place has its beauty as well like this place in front of me."

When Ray was small, he didn't have many friends. Children of his age used to ignore him neither did he have a sibling. The closest person to him was his father.

He was Ray's strength and the person he looked up to. He wanted to become just like his dad. Even when his homeroom teacher asked what he would like to become when he grew up, he said he would like to become like his father.

His father used to take him camping every month ever since he was five. He used to love to go camping with his dad. His father was very knowledgeable when it came to the wildlife. He taught Ray everything about camping and because of his dad Ray fell in love with nature.

Whenever he used to go to see any beautiful natural places his father used to come with me. But now he is in front of the most beautiful view he has ever seen but his father is gone.

Seeing the view made Ray think about his father. Past memories started to surge in his mind which brought a small smile to his face. But as soon as he realised that he may not be able to see his father ever again, his happy face turned into a sad one.

Ray sat in the same place while thinking about his dad for two hours straight until he was disturbed by three vulture-like creatures.

They started to fly in a circle above Ray's head aiming to attack him as soon as they saw an opening.

Ray was in no mood to entertain them so without even batting an eye, he formed two spears of ice and threw them towards the the vultures. One of the spears pierced through the first vulture while the other one missed.

Seeing that Ray was unarmed now, the two remaining vultures started to fly towards Ray at great speed. Seeing the two vultures coming towards him, Ray looked at them with a deadpan expression. He pointed his fingers towards them and said in a cold tone, "Fuck off,"

A beam of light extended out from Ray's finger and froze both of them in mid-air. The two vultures let out a scream and fell 1800 metres down the waterfall and hit the ground. Their blood splattered everywhere and their head crushed into the ground. The ground got completely covered in blood.

"Beautiful," Ray said while looking at the scene with an emotionless face.
