The faces of Paul and the accompanying Laines Empire officers standing behind him turned extremely unpleasant; they instinctively avoided the colonel's gaze, not daring to meet it. Thinking of this, many had beads of sweat appearing on their foreheads, feeling a tense oppressive sensation of uncertain future and unknown life and death, as if an invisible enormous hand was gripping their throat, almost leaving them breathless.
