"Oh yeah, you control ice."
Sophie says with a hint of carelessness in her tone while adjusting the frame of her glasses on her nose bridge.
"Wait, WHAT!" I blurted out in shock

PRESENT DAY, 2022
Elise POV
"Sophie! She just got out of the hospital from one fainting spell, do you want to send her back there? And they say I'm the one who can't keep her mouth shut "
"I mean, she will find out sooner or later. Why not sooner? By the way, we are not the same"
Hannah and Sophie bickered with each other as if the person in question, Me, wasn't even in the room with them.
"Ice? ICE!!!!! Wait wait wait, Me? Elise? My power is Ice? But… how? Holdup, how do you all even know this? I just woke up"
Turning towards the six people in the room for an answer to my question, they all seemed hesitant to give me an answer. Then, a voice that had been quiet all the while spoke up, giving me an answer,
"I wouldn't want to bore you with all the technical details. In summary, a test was carried out and the results confirmed your abilities." I guess that makes sense. "However, the test is just theory. You still need to activate and train your abilities, or they can become dormant and non-functional."
"In other words, you can either train or the only ice you will be making is a single snowflake"
"Trent! Be nice. She just woke up from a coma"
The voice came from the girl with her face buried behind a book. Why is this Trent person so grumpy? He looks familiar but I am finding it hard to remember. Sensei walking away from the window towards us said,
"Thank you Max for that explanation.", Turning towards me, "So, Elise, you have a choice to make. Would you rather live a normal life without knowing how to use your abilities or, you stay here, train with us and we will help you regain your memories?"
The words that came out of Sensei's mouth gave me a lot to think about.
Do I want to live a new life, make new memories or join them, learn about my abilities, and get my lost memories back?
Looking across the room, everyone's faces expectant of the choice I have to make.
"So, Elise my dear, what choice have you made?"
I knew in my heart what I had to do. I could have woken up anywhere else but it was here for a reason. I must do what I must. These people were my friends for four years before the explosion happened, I will do all I must to regain those memories we shared. Who knows? These abilities of a thing could make it even more fun and dramatic.
"I mean, I'm already here, might as well 'discover' myself. I'll join whatever this is. Count me in."
Suddenly, I felt a pair of arms squeeze me so tight
"Ughhh!"
"YAHHHH! Thank You! Thank You! Thank You! Elise is joining us! No, takebacks, okay? It's going to be like back in…"
"Hannah, please release Elise. The poor girl is out of breath. And your vines are hurting around her"
Sensei cautions her with a meek smile. As she slowly lets go of me, I notice the vines mentioned retracting back having left little prints on my arm.
"Welcome to The Academy. Think of it as a normal high school but with ability training", said Sensei while giving me a firm handshake
*Bells ring*
"That's our cue. We'll be on our way to our dorms now, Sensei."
Hannah bows and pulls a boy, who has been silent all this while, along with her as she makes her exit. The girl, still buried in the book and Trent bowed and left without a word.
"Sophie, I believe Elise should be sharing a room with—", Sensei said while glancing around the room, "Max, who has already left. It seems like I might have to trouble you a bit. Please, show her to her room, will you?"
"No problem, Sensei. I know how Max can be when she is into a new book."
Sophie sighs and shakes her head.
"Let's be on our way now, Elise. It's getting late. You need your rest for tomorrow's activities. Goodbye Sensei"
She takes a bow and leads me out of the room.
As we walked down the hallway in silence, I thought about all that had happened today. The discoveries, decisions, friends, memories, my life, it all just seemed unreal. While lost in thoughts, I didn't realize we had stopped in front of an entryway
"This is the female dorm. Although you might see some guys going in and out, it's alright. It's allowed. A lot of rules have lessened ever since we gained power. All the school buildings got renovated, so it will be a bit confusing to get around. But there are direction signs at every corner"
Sophia points up to a green arrow sign with "FEMALE DORMS"
written on it.
That's a relief. Because I'm horrible with directions
She then leads me through the dorm reception and into an elevator,
"Your room is on the 5th floor. All 5th years are on that floor, which includes yours."
On the fifth floor, we walk down the hallway until we stop at a door with name tags on it.

"We are here, Elise Redfox. If you need any help, my room is just down the hall, G5B. Rest up, you have a busy day tomorrow."
She puts a calming hand on my shoulder and waves goodbye. I watch her walk away for a few seconds before turning my attention to the door before me.
Deep breathes Elise… You'll be fine. You used to be friends with her even if you don't remember much. It will be fine… right? Yes, it will
As I carefully open the door, I'm met with darkness excluding one table lamp put on at the corner of the room, giving light to a shadow facing down in a book.
"Hello? Max? I'm Elise… we met earlier…"
All I got was silence back. I guess she is very engrossed in whatever she's reading.
With the little light source, I can make out the content of the room. The room looks to be divided into two sections, one side seemed empty with only a bed and wardrobe. While the other side was clustered with all kinds of books, a whole library worth of books, and a barely visible bed.
Making my way to the empty side of the room, I search the wardrobe, grab some comfortable clothes, and head to the bathroom connected to the room.
Staring at my reflection in the mirror, freshly showered and clothed, I try to familiarize myself with all that has happened and even my new appearance
"I'll be fine. Just take it one step at a time. It'll all be fine."
Stepping back into the room, the light in the corner had gone off. She must have gone to bed.
"Good night… Eli"
Being called brought tears to my eyes, giving me a sense of peace and familiarity. It might not be bad after all.
"Good night Max"
I responded before drifting off to sleep…
