After logging back in, I quickly returned to work in the game. The Tutorial was still ongoing for me, and with my last bounty, I got massive rewards but not a lot of new traits. I was hoping for a couple and wondered if I was doing something wrong. There had to be good ways to grind it out and I was starting to wonder if I should slow things down and learn in real life some skills for gun manufacturing from a real gun manufacturer. Before I did something like that, though, I took some time to look into things and found that learning how to gunsmith in Canada was not so simple. For one, I had to have an FAL, which made sense if I wanted to own the gun afterward, but I could understand it in the end.
I sighed and got to work inside the game as I wanted more crafting traits. Something told me that Crafting would play a more and more important role in the game. Corporations in this game were going to have an arms race in this game eventually. They will fight for who was the most technologically superior and counter others' technology. Just look at my ambusher armor. It stands as a show of how great technology could increase your combat effectiveness.
Standing still, although it does not cover my weapon that is not in my armor-integrated holster, it still makes me much harder to find. Make it smokey? Then I am practically invisible to any eye except for those with some form of technological advancement. Which was the major issue with the armor? It did almost nothing for certain technologies. It utilized the fact that it used the least amount of power to avoid being seen or detected.
All of which lead me to my weapons.
If I could create custom weapons that worked with my armor and could be hidden, then it would make me the ultimate scout or infiltrator. They would never see me coming, and that would be a huge increase in power. Then there was ammo usage. Ammo could be customized and increased in power. So not only can your gun be enhanced, but so can the projectile. All of this leads me to believe that not only do I have to do Bounty hunting, but I must also get increases in my crafting skill.
So, I got Emily to continue her routine of getting stronger while I crafted, and Ura brought us planet to planet. It was my only break from crafting other than sleep. In order to assist in my crafting, I had been hopping in and out of my pod to do research on gun crafting, and so my speed of completing the tutorial had slowed significantly, which I was fine with. I did not like the fact that I had slowed it down, but the fact was, the better I left the Tutorial, the better I would do in the main universe afterward. So over a week had passed and I even went on a small date with Amber around town a bit. She kept it to just talking as we walked in the park and got to know each other a little more, which felt weird. I talked to her about my times in the pro circuit and she seemed genuinely interested.
Then I hopped back into things and worked on my crafting until I finally received a few notifications on traits that made me elated after over a week of grinding at it. After that raid, I finally fixed my Buster Bunker, which had been a task. So many of the parts needed to be removed and redone that I almost made an entirely new gun.

That doesn't sound right.

I smiled at the Repairwoman trait as it was something I had gone for hard all this time. It had been the major focus and it was just in time. So I quickly pulled up my interface, looked at my updated profile, and smiled massively at the fantastic stats. I had not really been doing anything other than bodyguard work and crafting so my credits had been stagnant but damn did it look good still. With only some spending on small incidentals for personal hygiene when we stopped at a planet. We picked up a bit more than we should have at the time, but it was nice to be clean.

I sighed, looking at my revigorated gun, and I picked it up and loaded it with a couple of rounds. We were currently in slipstream headed toward another delivery, and I hoped that the next one was not quite so quiet so I would have a chance to check this baby out. I had also assigned Emily a task to arrange a good bounty soon, in addition to her physical training.
Nyahdia also seemed to have taken Emily in under her wing and talked about her bounty hunting days while they worked out and waited around. They looked over bounties on the planet we were going to and various other things I had no idea about. Nyahdia also spent time with Spot but the boy was having confidence issues. I was also thinking about having some of my own fun with him. He was a cute little dog boy after all.
I unloaded my gun and got back to work, picking up a new task. I did not have any of the composite or technology for the gun I would really like to make, so I decided to start on something that I would really like—something truly silent and would not make a sound when being used. That was a crossbow.
Crossbows would be great at anti-personnel firing. With a night vision scope, I would make an automatic one if I could, but it was not necessary. Although the universe is in the future, nothing beats something that can't be heard. Then again, even crossbows make noise, so this would also be training to see if I could come up with something perfectly silent.
The first issue that would arise is the vibration. When I was looking up bows and things in my last crafting session, which was quickly taking over my YouTube feed, it autoplayed a video on Silencers on bows.
See, most movies like to make it so no one hears arrows flying. Bows are not perfectly quiet and in a universe where people can upgrade that sensory input, making bows completely obsolete and worse than a gun. What I was hoping for was that I could eliminate the sound completely or use it to make traps from a distance.
Shooting something from a distance that had a remote sensor for a bomb or something was a way to make traps. So, I had various ideas where something that could launch something more than a bullet would be very useful. So I set upon the task and quickly ran into many issues that I had never thought about. Was a cross bow or a bow better?
A crossbow had advantages like preloading that the bow could not do. I could probably make an auto pull back for the crossbow too. The Bow was more flexible and could be used for more things. The Crossbow would also limit the size of things a lot more than a bow would. It was small things like this that automatically plagued my mind, and I also did not even know if I would get a debuff because it was not a gun.
So I set upon making my first archaic weapon of a previous era to see if it was a viable thing for me to use. So I set upon it with a smile and finally made it. It was a little trash thing, but I made a crossbow that would probably last through one firing, at least.

Crossbow (Trash)
1-3 Pericing Damage.
A bow made by a Gunsmith who barely cared and insulted the craft.

New Trait unlocked: Weapon Mockery
Craft a Trash tier weapon due to lack of care for the craft of another.

My face blanked and I shuddered. "FUCK!" I cursed and I realized I might have fucked up hard with this weapon. I should have at least tried a bit harder as this trait might be one of those bad traits. I wanted to punch myself for just going through it as fast as possible, but I truly only wanted to test the weapon only and not spend much time on it.
Had I mocked another craft though?
I closed my eyes and sighed. I had not meant to mock another craft, but it seemed I did, and I would have to live with the trait in my upcoming gameplay. I was stuck with it unless I was willing to start from the start again and lose everything in the game.
I returned to the table and worked some hard metal into a nice bolt for the trashy crossbow. This time, I at least did not get another negative trait. I sighed, picked up the bow, put up something soft, set the crossbow, and aimed, but it felt weird. Antsy even and my hands started to shake a little. Not much, but just a little, and when I shot it, it felt off to me, and I sighed.
The aim of the crossbow was bad or I fucked up my shot because of my shaky hand. Something told me though, that the shakiness might be from using something that wasn't a gun. Which was stupid, but I decided that crossbows and bows were off the table.
I closed my eyes, then my eyes lit up. There was another gun that was silent and it could be used for things other than bullets. It also had a larger barrel and shot bullets with propellant. Tranquilizer darts! I could make a Dart gun! My mind raced with the idea, and as long as I made something that could fit something like a sensor and a payload, I had a mobile proximity mine gun. All I had to do was run around and shoot it. The last question is what type of thing would be at the end. If it were for setting traps, then an adhesive of some type would be best. These would have to be shot and forgotten about, or if it was a magnet, I could deactivate from a distance, which would be a good idea.
I smiled, and I got to work on designing my new project. Hopefully, I would complete it before the end of the tutorial.
