Chapter 41 - Between Panic and Relief

The moment Zade's eyes fluttered open, my heart leapt into my throat due to how it sped up. For a few seconds, I forgot how to breathe and how to move like a normal person. I froze in place, my chair scraping against the tile floor as I instinctively stumbled back.

My chest felt heavy, my lungs refused to cooperate, my brain malfunctioned, and all I could do was stare at him as if I were staring at a ghost. His lashes flickered against his beautiful sun-kissed skin, his hand dragging weakly to his temple as though trying to massage away the dull ache in his skull. He blinked slowly, probably trying to clear up his blurry sight, his gaze wandering around the white-colored sterile hospital room, confused, unfocused, like he wasn't entirely here yet.
