Long story short… Di Tou had once again taken a set of numbers like, two, four, eight, sixteen and upon seeing it, determined that the pattern was 'multiplied by two'. When in reality, as it was only a set, and not every number in the set, it was possible the rule was as simple as, 'each number gets bigger' or 'increments of two' by failing to look at that last bit of information, Di Tou had narrowed the scope far beyond what could actually be determined.
Wu Kong's sect, the Golden Light Monastery, had indeed made a move that year when Di Tou and Wu Kong had been lost in the Forbidden Beast Forest, and subsequently ended up in the Eastern Continent, and they had indeed gone east. But whether or not they were looking for Wu Kong was unclear, and if their destination was the Eastern Continent was also up in the air.
