Chapter 18 - True usurper

Letting anger flow through him, Aethelstan's teaching came back from a space far away as if it had been years and not months.

His soft, calming voice telling him that emotions were tools, always in need of control.

Control an important factor that shapes your life and the lives of those around you.

His words that always rung true.

And now he was using his lessons to gain what he wanted, the chance to return to his own life, away from the life of Zephyrus.

Throwing the door with the amassed anger, he screamed louder than ever.

Aware but uncaring of the sneaky servant behind the corner, it all would play out.

He had to believe in that.

''How could you!?"

"Zephyrus, how nice of you to come.''

More, a bit more anger, it wasn't enough

His sister in law was calm, collected and he was anything but.

''You gave him the proof, made me out to be nothing but a puppet on strings.''

''Calm down.''

''Calm down?

How can I when you let him walk all over me, let him insult me for being your puppet when you do nothing but sit inside this room, voicing your commands!"

Her startling green eyes flashed and adequately prepared he crashed against the wall.

Weakly grunting as she moved over him, eyes brimming with an unknown in his kingdom.

His sister in law was..

''Did you forget?

That I posses magic?''

..Was a mage of the magic kingdom.

A part of their royal family ,the only family in this world that possessed it.

With a dazed gaze, he muttered ''How can you let him treat me like this?''

With knees thudding to the ground lightly, her outfit sparkly clean, she turned his head up.

''Getting rid of a useful servant before they outlived their use is foolish, Zephyrus.''

It was awkward, there they sat on their knees, talking about getting rid of someone while her green eyes glared into his own hazel eyes.

His soft on purpose, her blazing with intent.

The hand holding up his chin didn't help as he sentimentally said ''Is that what's going to happen to me?''

''You?

You are a special case.''

With eyes lingering on his lips, she succeeded in making him freak out and he would use it to his advantage.

Standing briskly, a slight tremor racing over him, he broadened the distance between them.

''So as your puppet, what do you wish for me to do when it comes to Hawking's?''

With a sigh and a mix is something she stood, sat back down upon her luxury seat and calmly offered him tea.

Reluctantly he sat, stirring the tea mindlessly as she looked at him.

''Leave him be.''

As expected, this was going to prove a challenge.

''He stole from the royal treasury, played his part in lengthening the duration of the war and caused the death of countless people.

Our people.''

''The death of commoners is nothing worth mentioning.''

Frozen in shock, he pondered.

What he had given her strengthened existing thought's and ideas, beside the one he needed her to believe, did she really not care for her people?

Was this one of the side effects?

''How can you say that?''

''I'm saying this in case you were thinking of doing something stupid.

Behave and you shall be just fine.''

''Are you threatening me?''

''Merely reminding you that all you have right now, I can take away.''

''You..!! Fine.''

Standing with rapid movements, he began to leave.

''Don't be impulsive, Zephyrus.''

''Have a good night, your majesty!"

The door closed with his tea untouched behind it.

''Your majesty.''

''Did you have fun eavesdropping?"

''I was doing my duty standing guard, it is out of my control that the door stayed opened and your conversation ventured out.''

Well versed in excuses huh.

''You may leave.''

''As you wish, your majesty.

Have a good night.''

Watching the other go, he sighed, he would have to speed it up a little.
