"Master! Welcome back!" Log greeted.
Standing on the other side of the door was my beastkin student. Perhaps already sensing I was coming back, he was properly ready to welcome me. Ever since I took him in, this has been a familiar sight.
"I'm back," I smiled and patted his head as I entered the room.
"Umu! I was waiting for you, master!" he excitedly said.
"Heh? I'm sorry if I kept you waiting," still taking my shoes and cape off, I replied.
"You see, you see! I passed the guild test and done my first quest."
"Already...?"
"Yes!"
Of course, I expected Log to easily pass the adventurer exam and finish his first quest in the very same day. The reason why I acted surprised was... Well, I simply forgot about it... Or to be more accurate, it's because I wasn't really thinking at all at the moment...
I'm still in a daze, and the ones to be blamed for it were Nolan and Nero.
Still, to completely forget about Log...
"Urk..." I grimaced.
What a horrible parental guardian I was...
"Master...?" seeing my reaction, Log worriedly call.
"It's nothing...! Anyway, I think we should celebrate! Let's have a feast!"
"R-Really!?"
"Of course! Do you have any requests?"
"Steak and borgar!"
As expected of a beastkin...
"Okay, I'll be done before you know it!"
"Umu! I'll wait for it, master!"
After just about an hour, I was able to finish cooking. Since it's a special occasion, the ingredients I used this time all came from my storage. That is to say, they were all fresh and of top quality.
I'm proud to say that the food I cooked this time won't lose to any high-end restaurants in my previous world.
"A-Amazing...!" Log praised after seeing the variety of cooked meat I laid out on the table.
I obviously made more than his requested stake and burger. Those were already his usual meal, so I wanted him to taste some dishes he had never tried before. But looking at it now, I think I may have gone a little too overboard.
"Is this really all for me, master?"
"That's rude of you to say!" I flicked his forehead. "I'll be eating some of it too!"
"O-Of course!"
"Fufu! Eat well, Log!"
"I will!"
As soon as I gave him permission, Log began to devour the food in front of him. For having such a small body, you wouldn't expect how big his stomach was. He's a glutton through and through.
Hm? Or is it because my cooking is just that good? Hehe... At least I try to think so...
Oops, I almost forgot...
"Congratulations on becoming an adventurer, Log!" I congratulated him with a smile.
"T-Thank you, mashter!" he replied, still swallowing the food in his mouth.
"Here," I said as I handed him an item I just took out of my storage.
"Are you giving this to me...?"
"Umu! Since you're now a proper student of mine."
What I handed Log was a luminescent pale-blue knife. One could tell it was special by its appearance alone. With adamantite as its base material, it was crafted by a famous weapon smith around a hundred years ago.
I was already planning on giving it to him beforehand, so I was able to immediately take it out. I considered giving him a more reasonable item, perhaps a useful tool or a defensive magic ring, but I decided otherwise. A main weapon will suit him best. Besides, I think he would prefer it more.
"A-Are you sure!?" he cautiously asked while clutching the knife on his chest.
"Yup! And how about this: I'll be giving you another one when you've increased your adventurer rank enough?"
"Eh!? You'll be giving me another one!?"
Since Log dual wields knives, it's only reasonable for me to give him another. However, I won't do that just yet. I'll need to push him to get just a little bit stronger for his own sake. Still, I won't push him too far, so I'll just wait until he reaches rank C.
"Take care of it, okay?"
"Gulp... I-I definitely will!"
