Chapter 2 - Chapter 2: The dumb Knight searches for the dragon's lair(1)

So...how should I find the dragon's lair? Obviously, I'd have to head out of the kingdom to find it. But then what? I should get ready to go out first. Since the dragon breathes fire, it'd only be reasonable to get armor that can protect me from fire. And a weapon too. A stronger one that can cut even rocks. I should make a list so I don't forget it. Let's see....

That should be enough. I think. I should head to a neighbouring city first and get a map maybe I can find clues on where it's lair is.

[Currently at one of the neighbouring cities]

Alright, all check. except for armor and weapons. I should be able to get them here...But where?

Dammit. Do I really have to talk to someone? I don't really have a choice, do I? Maybe I can ask someone at a shop.

I entered a bakery. With just a step inside, I could already smell fresh bread and lots, lots of biscuits. There was a middle aged woman at the front desk, I decided to ask her.

"Un...Excuse me?"

the lady at the desk smiled at me, she sure is a beautiful woman, not as beautiful as the princess though.

"Ah, yes. what can I get for you darling?"

"Well.... is there any smithy around here? and a library too"

"The smithy's just a few blocks away from here, if you head out and turn to your left you'll see a tailoring shop ahead, right past that there's an alleyway. Inside the alleyway, there's a blacksmith's shop halfway inside"

"and the library?"

"It's at the end of the same alleyway"

"Ah thank you..."

there was something off about this woman, not sure what it is but....it just doesn't feel right, like...

Why does she talk like a damn NPC?

Anyways, I head out and follow the directions that she gave. There actually was a smithy there....I thought she was kidding. Someone actually built a smithy halfway inside the alley? And there's a library at the end too....Well anyway, that's none of my business. I should get the weapons and armor.

I head inside the Smithy, there were a bunch of weapons hung up on the walls, the fireplace seemed to have been cooking up some metals. There were a lot of molds in the shape of different weapons and other things, with a large pit in the middle with a short rock wall around it, short enough to see what would be happening inside of it. And a desk to it's right.

While I was analyzing the place, a certain weapon caught my eye, It was a spear. It looked like any other common spear, I didn't look fancy with jewels and eye-catching stones. Just a normal spear, but it seemed to give off.....I don't know how to describe it, something like a different aura? I don't know. Probably because the author didn't know how to describe it.

After analyzing the place, I noticed that no one was there. From what I saw at least. I decided to call out-

"Hello?"

I say, but there's no reply.

"Excuse me???"

I say, again no reply.

I look around for someone, but still no one. I look over the desk I previously saw and I see a small human, a dwarf, sleeping soundly. I don't know if I should wake him up or not. But if I want the weapons and armor, I have no choice but to wake him.

And so I try to to wake him up by patting his shoulders and raising my voice a bit, but he doesn't seem to be waking up anytime soon.

But I can't give up now. I shout and yell in his ear, I shake him, I bang on his desk, still not awake. I lost my cool and just said- "If you're not gonna wake up then I'm gonna steal a weapon!"

I'm not gonna steal it of course.

When I reached for the spear that I had my eye on since I entered this place, something jumped, landed on me, and sat on my shoulders. Then I heard a voice,

"You have a keen eye lad."

Looks like luck is on my side this time.

I replied, "Thank you for the compliment, but I'd appreciate it if you got off my shoulders"

"Didn't you try to steal my babies just now?"

"I have no idea what you're talking about, I was just checking this spear out"

"oh really?"

"of course"

"Alright, I'll believe you"

I knew full well that he didn't. He finally got off my shoulders. He's way too heavy for that small body. Maybe he was just pressing against me so it feels heavy but that's just a possibility. He could be heavier than he seems.

"So, what kind of armor and weapon do you want"

he said while massaging his shoulders. I didn't expect him to get straight to business, but that's good anyways.

"A full set of armor that has fire resistance and a sword, similar to this spear that can cut the hardest materials and a few daggers, I'd appreciate it if the daggers were just as sharp as the sword"

"Hmm, are you sure you were just checking the spear out?"

"What do you think?"

"You're smarter than you look"

Though his mouth is complimenting me, his face says otherwise. I just smile and he smiles back.

"You do realize that all of those things are gonna cost you a fortune right?"

"It's worth it if I'm putting my life on the line for what I need it for"

"Then I'll give you the list of things needed to make all of that"

"Alright, I'll wait right here"

I don't think I'll be able to eat for the next few weeks...I can't stay in an inn either, I'll probably be dirt poor by then. I need to learn how to survive in the wild and I'll have to fight the dragon too. But I probably won't need to worry, since I'm the main character the author will give me plot armor.

"Ay!, kid, these are the materials needed, get 'em for me if you want the armor and weapons. Oh and I'll say the price after I've made your things, so be prepared to spend your life paying your debt"

"Aye, aye, captain."

Yeah, I won't die. I'll be fine.
