Ryan in his office preparing for his next meeting when he got a call with no specific name just a number
"Hello Ryan Collins, do you know that your long lost friend Emily Walton is still working as a reporter on your case?.. if you don't know then I will send you some pictures and trust me" The stranger said I'm a masculine voice
"Who are you and how did you know if I have a friend or not mister?" Ryan asked curiously
"Well Mr Collins, the whole world is aware of it and you know the painful part is that you lack interest in social media which no one is yet to figure out" he said coldly
"I don't trust a stranger, do you hear me.. Get lost now" He said and hung up harshly. His phone vibrate suddenly, he checked it and saw Emily talking with her boss as she handed over a little thing to him. Ryan zoom the pic larger to see what she's given her boss, he realized is a flash. He got so furious, took his suit and zoom out angrily leaving his secretary in confusion as he drove speedy to the cafeteria.
Emily still working when he noticed Ryan talking to Imlie, she was so happy to see him. she moved to them but stop in her track when she heard his harsh voice.
"Where is your friend?"
"Ohh, so you are Ryan Collins?.. That girl never stop talking about you always and now I finally met you but I think we've met before right?" Imlie said gently
"I don't have time for your absurd jokes woman, I has a simple question about your friend's whereabout.. Where is Emily?" He asked coldly, Emily gently moved closer to them
"I'm here Ryan, why are you searching for me?" She said softly.
Ryan turned his face towards her, drag her hands and took her out. Ryan opened the front door next to him and dragged her inside gently as he opened his door. He start the car and left. Emily kept staring at him curiously imagining what she has done to make him angry but could not find any vivid reasons for his actions.
Throughout the journey, Ryan did not uttered a word or even look at her for once but only focused on the road. After few minutes, the car stopped as Emily looked around and realized that he brought her to beach. Ryan got down opened her door and gave her a signal to come down. She gently came down still looking at him curiously. She watched him took her in his hand towards a quiet place where nobody is to interrupt them beside the beach and that when looked at her. She saw how red his eyes is as she bow down in shame.
"Why? Why did you betray me Emily?" He asked softly
Emily looked at him curiously "I don't understand you Ryan, what have I done to make you this sad?" She said
"Why did you tell me that you are still working as a reporter on my case? and you made me pour out my life to you, only to hear that you are a traitor Emily.. Why? How could you?" He said coldly
She widen her eyes with her mouth opened in awe
"What? who told you this?" She said
"Answer me Emily and tell me the truth only" He said
"Ryan, I was a reporter and the reason why I used was is because I resigned three days ago.. I had no intention of investigating or even monitor you. I didn't tell anybody about your secret Ryan " She replied
"That does not dispute the fact that you lied to me, you didn't tell me you are still working as a reporter.. maybe just maybe I wouldn't have said anything about my life with you" He said sadly
"I didn't betrayed you, the fact that I didn't disclose that I was a reporter does not implies I lied to you because we didn't talk about it.. there was no time to discuss personal matter except the one you told me about Ryan.. Yes, I wanted to tell you beforehand but I didn't get the chance to Ryan.. pls forgive me" She said with a shaken voice
"You actually didn't resign from the start right ? But why are working at the cafeteria? to cover up your mission or what?"He asked curiously still calm
"Ryan, after my encounter at your office.. I got a call from my boss about how I betrayed him by exposing his hidden agenda of searching for your secret through an anonymous account.. that day Ryan, I quit my job and I was happy.. Two months later, I got a call after dancing with joy that I finally found a job at the cafeteria and that it would fetch me money till am able to better job. My former boss called me and threatened about you " She said, took a deep breath
"And what? and what made go back there?" He asked
"He convince me to take back my job or he would look for another person who can destroy your entire career, so I gave in to keep him busy and to take his face away from your case.. I just got the job to distract him from your case, I saw how desperate he is to destroy you so I went back to protect you from him even without my knowledge about our friendship Ryan" she said softly
"So why did you quit then?" Ryan asked softly
"I quit because there's no more secret" She smiled to herself and looked at Ryan expression
"What do you mean Emily?" He asked curiously
"Well I meant to say, that you've overcome your fear and any other secret will slowly fade away as long as you are happy so I only want to focus on making my best friend happy than to wander in guilt of betraying him or even stalking him down.. My ex - boss knew about our friendship because he followed you here with other reporters that very day we found out about our friendship Ryan and so he threatened me with it the day I finally wanted to resign.. I gave him my drive filled with my unfinished work from other articles with my resignation letter and left" She explained calmly
Ryan hug her tight suddenly, holding her so tight to himself "Thank you Emily, fir risking your life for me even without you having any relation with me" he said softly still hugging her
"I knew you were one innocent man and a broken baby that need to be protected from evil eyes.. actually I just did what I thought was right as the moment and I will still go to any extent to protect you" She said as she hug him back
"Thank you so much. I don't know what I would have done without you Emily" He said softly
"Thank the almighty Ryan, he brought me to you" She said as Ryan nod in agreement still hugging her. they bkgh hug themselves as a quick flashback was done about them from childhood.
