[Renner POV]
Renner took Rias, Akeno, and Koneko to the table, which usually serves customers. But since the shop was closed, there was no customer.
Renner then placed a tray of coffee and different types of cookies.
Koneko, without missing a beat, started to munch on them.
Akeno, Rias, and Renner each took a glass, which was fancy-looking, and then Akeno poured coffee for them.
"Thank you." Renner said with a smile and took the cup of coffee. Similarly, Akeno poured coffee for Rias and herself.
They all took a sip of coffee, and Koneko took a bite of cookies; actually, she put a whole cookie in her mouth.
"So are you also from Nazarick?" Rias was the first one to start.
Since Arthur is a friend of Renner, it was just a guess on Rias's part. She didn't actually know whether Renner was part of Nazarick or not.
"Yes, I am part of Nazarick. Though my rank is quite low." Renner said with a smile.
Hearing She is from Nazarick. Rias was interested as she could now know what Arthur was like in Nazarick and maybe know his hobby or something like that.
Since Renner seems close enough for Arthur to let her stay with him, then she should know something other than what she knows, like his favorite food.
"So Renner, is it okay to call you Renner?" Rias asked. She was if she needed to add titles or something.
"It's okay; actually, I prefer it this way. It seems like we are close." Renner said.
In Nazarick, other than Evileye, some maid, and the Ancient One, Renner can't say she is close with others.
Sure, Renner was working directly under Albedo, but that's just a boss-subordinate relationship. No, that's not right. Her relationship with the Albedo and others is not just a boss-subordinate relationship but something more, but they can't be called close either.
They are friendly and help her if the situation calls for it, but there still is some invisible distance between them.
So when Rias joins Nazarick, Renner will have other company other than Evileye.
Hearing Renner, Rias continues, "So how is Arthur in Nazarick?"
Akeno and Koneko looked at Rias; she is not even trying to hide the fact that she is attracted to Arthur.
"He is a pervert," Renner said, without missing a beat.
"Pervert? Who? Arthur?" It was Akeno who asked that.
From what Akeno had observed till now, Arthur was anything but a pervert; he was a gentleman.
Rias blinked. "I don't think that. He doesn't really act like Issei or any of the others. I mean, he's charming, but he doesn't drool or—"
Renner let out a soft laugh, the kind that danced gently in the air, teasing yet strangely refined. She leaned back against her seat, swirling her coffee with a dainty motion.
"Yes, Arthur. Don't be fooled by his quiet demeanor. That's what makes him so dangerous."
Akeno tilted her head, clearly intrigued. "Dangerous how?"
In many ways.
"He doesn't show it," Renner said, tapping a finger against her cup. "He's not like Issei—you won't catch him peeking or blurting out crude comments. Arthur's the type who'll compliment you once in a blue moon, but when he does, it's so direct and sincere that you'll keep thinking about it for days."
"Well, that doesn't make him a pervert, right?" Rias said.
Well, there goes my plan to make them give up on Ancient One. Renner thought to herself.
Just then Evileye descended the stairs gracefully, though her youthful appearance made each step look more like a child returning from her room after being told not to snoop.
Rias, Akeno, and Koneko turned their eyes to her in near sync.
"Keno, What are you doing?" Renner said, acting like a mother.
"Oh, is this your daughter?" Akeno asked, pleasantly surprised.
"Yes," Renner answered, giving a fond smile that looked far too natural. "My adoptive daughter. Her name is Keno Invern."
Evileye stepped down onto the floor, folding her arms. "Tch. Don't treat me like a child."
Koneko blinked and tilted her head. "You are a child. Just like me."
Evileye shot her a sharp glare that made even Koneko hesitate for a split second.
"I'm not a child," she said again, more firmly. "I just look like one. In fact, you are a child." She said to Koneko.
Koneko's eye twitched.
The reason why Renner told them that Keno is her adoptive child is because of the bet they previously made. And since it was a good time, she used it so she could have some fun teasing Evileye.
Renner laughed softly. "Keno, don't be rude to guests."
"I'm not," Evileye said with a small pout. "I'm just stating facts."
Rias gave her a once-over and smirked a little. "You're a feisty one."
"I learned from the best," Evileye replied, giving Renner a side-glance. "And Arthur."
"Oh?" Akeno perked up, her curiosity piqued. "You're close to Arthur too?"
Evileye looked up. Her crimson eyes sharpened again, carrying the weight of centuries behind them. "We're very close."
There was a beat of silence.
That silence was broken by a rushing sound.
All of them looked at who it was, and they saw it was Arthur.
"Where are you going?" Renner asked.
But Arthur didn't answer. But Renner and Evileye saw the look on his eyes. It was serious. No the seriousness, which he show before he tried to get under ladies pants but the seriousness which he show before he burn down something.
"Renner, Take care of them and Asia, I will be going." He said as he exited the store.
After he exited, Issei and Kiba came down.
"What happened?" Renner asked, there was urgency in her voice.
"I don't know, He just got a call, then he just left." Issei said.
