Two middle-aged men approached the first patrol officer on the scene to understand the situation.
Old Hunter scanned the area. When he saw Dean, a flicker of light sparked in his otherwise dull eyes. He walked over and asked, "Dean, found anything?"
Dean briefly described the situation:
"We had just located Barnaby's house when we encountered the explosion.
"His mailbox was stuffed with letters; it seems he hasn't been back here for several days. But someone installed a detonation device in his house, and Carlo and I ended up being the unlucky ones caught by it.
"Carlo was injured and has been taken to the hospital."
Upon hearing this, the flicker of light in Old Hunter's eyes faded.
He grimaced. "I was just in the office sorting out some files when I received a call from Deputy Chief Hank and rushed over here in a daze. Now, we're both in for it."
The influential people in the wealthy district were not to be trifled with.
