Chapter 25 - Protection

Within minutes, all three of them found themselves walking to the Treasury. Kian and Dolunay walked right in front of Yves who seemed to be lost in thought somehow.

"You think he's lost his mind somehow?"

"He's always been like that, remember?"

"Well, yes, but not to this extent. He literally just said his body is of a deity's, but he's literally human."

"Hmmm, now that you mentioned that…"

Yves heaved a sigh at the outrageous conversation the two were having, but he couldn't blame them at all.

It was obvious. He could tell himself that his mind is shaken, because after all, he has not the mental capacity of a deity, but a human's. Yves did sleep because Samael knocked him down cold, but Yves still woke up in the middle of the night from a bad nightmare, forcing him conscious for the rest of the night.

The human mind was fragile and cannot be left empty. Thoughts will fill up no matter what. Distractions are futile as those thoughts you try so hard not to think of will come back one way or another.

Not minding the gossiping mouths of his friends, Yves only set his mind on confirming his theory. Barely even half an hour of walking, almost exploring the entirety of the palace, have they arrived at their destination.

The treasury.

Kian placed his hand on the door, and within seconds, the door pushed open on its own. Kian gave way to Dolunay and Yves before entering on his own. The door then closes on its own once Kian has stepped inside.

It was a simple security method installed right after the robbery that took place in spring ball… orchestrated by Dolunay herself.

Yves' eyes wandered around. This hall was full of priceless treasures from this country and from all around the world. Stones, jewelry, weapons, medicine, clothing, and gold. Anything.

Among these priceless treasures, Yves was fixated on only one..

The scarlet flower.

Halting right in front of the glass case, Yves used his eyes to observe properly, and because he's taken a closer look at it, he was now able to confirm it.

This flower… bloomed from his body. His original body.

Yves couldn't contain his smile.

So, I've died. Wow.

He couldn't even explain how he felt about this hard truth. Every single emotion was spiralling in his mind, and he's having a hard time trying to tame the wild thoughts coming alive in his mind.

Yves was mad, yet fascinated. Death was such a beautiful subject that he continuously studied and experimented with for centuries of his life as a deity, and yet… it was such a simple, immediate happening.

If his body had bloomed scarlet flowers, it must mean it's been over half a century since the body had stopped functioning. And since he's already in his current body and is already in its early twenties, who knew transmigration would actually take a fourth of a century to complete?

Yves once again sighs as he comes to terms with his own emotions. The unpredictable had happened and there was no use regretting every second of it now that it's been done.

Over twenty years… no, it could be longer than that. This flower is fully grown.

Yves could only smile. He stared a little closer at the flower.

It grew in the darkest shade of red. Leafless, its long stem highlights the stretched round vivid blood red petals, almost like a floating lily.

"I turned into such a beautiful flower," he mumbles under his breath. His voice was raw with emotions

Yves motioned his hand towards the glass case.

Dolunay and Kian were confused… until they felt heavy magic energy gathering in one place within seconds. Caught off guard, they fell on their knees from the heavy pressure pushing their bodies down on the cold tile.

"Argh," Kian groaned.

"What the hell…?" Dolunay cursed as she tried to look up, but she couldn't lift her chin.

Yves, on the other hand, was focused. One hand in his pocket, one hand in front. With eyes closed, he chanted a spell.

"Que toute chose se manifeste. Rassemblez et protégez cette graine germée."[1]

He opened his eyes, showing the beautiful gold glow.

"Qu'elle continue de fleurir aussi longtemps que le vide subsistera sur cette Terre. Et que la cupidité n'atteigne jamais ce lieu sacré."[2]

While Dolunay was struggling, she noticed how everything around them was shaking or on the verge of breaking.

"Kian! The treasure!" She called for him as she pointed over the glass dagger next to him. But Kian couldn't move at all. Kian was getting worried that it might completely fall and break.

Kian struggled to keep his gaze on Yves, who was completely unmoving in his place.

Is this… his full power?! He thought to himself, having a hard time.

But not much to their worries, the spell was complete within a minute. Kian and Dolunay lost control and fell hard on the floor from being relieved of the heavy pressure. They groaned once again, but they were more flabbergasted than pained from getting slammed.

"What the—" Kian cut his own sentence once Yves turned to them. Dolunay and him were then taken aback by the fading gold glow in Yves' eyes. "...why?"

He became genuinely worried. The look in Syvestian's eyes were confusing but obvious. Kian has never seen Yves so worked up over something before. Is there something in that flower that they don't know of?

In addition, it's been years since he last used his actual power as a deity. If he uses this power again, he could blow his cover completely and he could be found by those in pursuit of him. Hence the reason why he doesn't use a specific power of his unless its a dire situation.

Kian, Milera, and Ezio knew of this one fact. They learned of it during a casual conversation with Yves.

Was there something in the flower that had him use his power again, despite the huge risks? And despite having be in complete perfect hiding after all these years?

Yves could only smile at Kian's worried question.

They know I'm in this Earth, why bother hiding now? He thought to himself, hiding his clenched fist.

"It's alright," he said to assure Kian.

It wasn't. One could only tell that this was a new start of an unending chase and tragedy.

[1] "Let all things be made manifest. Tend and protect the seed that has awakened."

[2] "May it bloom for as long as the void remains upon this Earth, and may greed never set foot in this sacred place."
