Once the patients were placed in these balls of pure water, it seemed like there was finally some change.

This ball of water that I created was being kept up with my power, so that meant that I had to keep supplying power to ensure that the currents were being kept up. If I stopped supplying power for ever a second, then the currents would stop.
While the ball of pure water wouldn't break right away, it would start being diluted by the water around it and it would return to the state that it was in before I had created this ball of water.
