Chapter 16 - CHAPTER SIXTEEN

The Mystery Behind The Queen ~

It felt like eternity inside the palace wall; it felt lovely but lonely. Everyone avoided Queen Elizabeth after she arrived from the masquerade ball. Everyone now knew that she was pregnant.

It felt like all eyes were now on her, watching, counting, and waiting for the day she would bring to birth.

Elizabeth knew she was the center of attention in the palace. The news of her pregnancy spread like wildfire, and even the palace workers felt how miserable Elizabeth must have been, but this didn't affect Elizabeth. She planned on ignoring all the rumors, even if it meant being closed in her chamber.

The royal library became the only Place Elizabeth hid herself, searching for books and more books.

Kira didn't understand this newfound fondness of her mistress and so decided to ask. Elizabeth told her that she needed to know that she wanted to know more about the QUEEN.

"The QUEEN?" Kira asked, confused.

"Yes. The king's mother," Elizabeth answered. "Why? What's wrong?" Kira hesitated to answer the question, and Elizabeth expected this.

"Kira," she called. "Yes, your majesty," Kira responded, blinking her eyes continuously. Elizabeth stood up from her seat and took a book from the table before walking towards Kira.

"What do you know about the QUEEN?" Elizabeth asked, looking at the pages of the book in her hand. Kira's eyes drifted around the room, ignoring Elizabeth's question. "I know that we are not allowed to say her name or discuss her in the palace," Kira answered, shivering.

She feared this day would come; she knew it would, but no matter how she imagined it, she wasn't prepared.

"Hm" was the silent response of Elizabeth.

"But my queen, why the sudden interest? You shouldn't worry yourself about things like..."

"Tell me about the prophecy," Elizabeth interrupted, cutting Kira totally off guard.

"The prophecy?" Kira acted like she didn't know what Queen Elizabeth meant by the prophecy. "I haven't heard any such thing," Kira lied. She knew she shouldn't have lied about it, but she feared for the Queen and didn't know any other way to protect her, even if it meant hiding such Information from her.

"Kira," Elizabeth shut the book in her hand and placed it on the table behind her, then turned to Kira and gave her a serious look.

"Ever since I came to the palace, I've been seeing things, things I don't think should be taken lightly." Kira looked at Queen Elizabeth in shock.

"For some reason, I've been hearing voices in my head, voices I didn't want to listen to, and I thought I was going insane, and I couldn't talk about it because everyone would think that I'm insane, so all I've been doing is ignore those voices," said Elizabeth, feeling her heart thumping hard. Her eyes heating, she didn't know what to think or believe.

"But something in me tells me that there is something I don't know and that something bad is coming for me, as if the thought of losing my child isn't enough for me, so Kira...I need you to be completely honest with me. What is the prophecy?" Elizabeth felt the rage in her voice; her skin burned from the inside out, and, worst of all, she didn't know why. It was like she couldn't control her own emotions.

Kira fell to her feet, sobbing softly. "My Queen, keeping this knowledge from you isn't by my own will. It is not in my power to tell you this, but there is something you must know."

Elizabeth bent down and lifted Kira from the floor. "Talk to me, Kira, there's no one here, tell me what you know, I need to know."

Kira looked around and saw that no one was with them, then breathed heavily with a sigh.

"The prophecy...it is believed that the prophecy is about the prosperity of the kingdom of AUSTRO and how it was going to reign over the realms, but that was a lie made up by the king and his council," Kira spoke in a low tone.

"And how did you know of this?" Elizabeth asked. For a moment, Kira kept quiet before looking into Elizabeth's eyes, and something in them radiated an aura beyond fear.

"Because my mother served the QUEEN. My mother was the Queen's personal maid, and she was there when the first prophecy came because it was the QUEEN who made the prophecy." Kira pursed her lips before she continued.

"I was just a little child when my mum handed me over to her sister, who was a kitchen maid, to take care of me. I never knew why until royal guards came and took her." Memories rushed to Kira, and she felt tears running down her face.

"I was in my aunt's garden playing with the flowers when I heard that she was taken away to the cell to be punished and tortured for information. For days, I refused to eat, and my heart had to find a way to get me to see my mum...and that cost her her life." Elizabeth held Kira while she began to cry and sob.

"I can't imagine you went through all that. "Elizabeth felt pained within her heart; she had never imagined how cruel the palace could be, but she could imagine after experiencing one of those bloody moments.

"What happened when you went to see your mum?"Elizabeth asked. She knew it was hard for Kira to say it, but she knew it was something of great importance.

"That was my last time with her. I asked her why she was being held in the cell and tortured, and she told me something I never told anyone. She told me that the king, King Arthur, wanted to keep his secret away from everyone, so he had to kill whom he needed to kill to protect himself, but he missed ONE," Kira said in a whisper.

"Missed ONE? What does that mean?" Elizabeth asked. What did she mean by keep secrets, and protect himself from what and who?

"She said that only the QUEEN knows him and that he has a mark on his chest that only the KING will recognize, and when that day comes, it will be the end of this realm, as what will come after will be war and blood until the secret is out to the world," Kira said, holding Elizabeth's hands.

"I don't understand, why...how does it connect to me?" Elizabeth asked, confused. She didn't know how this would help her.

"I'm not sure, my queen, how it connects to you, but to the little I've heard from certain people at the palace, the king has been trying to get the prophecy and has been sending secret soldiers to get it, and it's not from the high priestess but from else." The look on Kira's face made Elizabeth choke.

"Could it be that the QUEEN is...."Everyone was told that the king's mother died years ago. If the king was searching for the prophecy his mother made, and it wasn't from the high priestess, could it be that the king still has his mother hidden somewhere?

"Before I left my mother, she held my hands and enchanted some spell, she said it would direct me to someone and that it was a spell cast on her by the QUEEN herself but because she was caught, she wouldn't be able to fulfill the mission asign to her so she passed it to me" kira said looking at her hands on Elizabeth hands.

"What spell was that?"Elizabeth asked the question spontaneously.

"Am accent spell. It would allow me to find the person I'm supposed to protect and feel it when I'm near that person. It cost my mum her last power to enchant that spell." Kira wiped off the tears in her eyes roughly as if she didn't want another drop to fall off.

"I knew it was you, my Queen, from the first day I was assigned to be your personal maid. I knew you were the mission, and I've waited 11years to serve you." Elizabeth smiled and drew Kira into a hug. She felt so pained that Kira had to go through all that alone, and at the same time.

"Thank you, Kira. For telling me everything," Kira allowed herself to get hugged by the Queen before pulling off and acting all strong and rigid, which made Elizabeth give a little chuckle.

Now, Elizabeth knew it wasn't all in her head; it was her reality, and she needed to be more vigilant and careful around everyone at the palace.
