Still able to fight?
Totem Vikavolt looked at Beautifly in surprise. Beautifly, who had recovered a bit of stamina using Morning Sun, continued to flutter in the air, staring directly at Totem Vikavolt.
"Being suppressed in a field you're good at...it must be really frustrating..."
Terrance could see Beautifly's condition and felt deeply guilty in his heart. Compared to Altaria and the others, Beautifly had indeed received much less attention recently.
Beautifly's desire to become stronger was clearly no weaker than any other Pokémon.
"Beautifly, second time... Extreme Quiver Dance!" Terrance said solemnly.
To defeat Vikavolt, Beautifly had to transcend itself once again!
For Beautifly, there was only one way — to keep competing in "flying maneuvers." Victory or defeat would depend on how many times Beautifly could complete Quiver Dance!
Airflow Perception Flying vs Acrobatic Flying!
The silver storm appeared again. This one was slightly smaller than the previous Silver Wind, but it exuded a more intense pressure. Entering the silver storm alone, Beautifly began its second round of Extreme Quiver Dance. It's entire body turned into a blur, blending into the dense silver, as if taunting Totem Vikavolt!
Sure enough, seeing this, Totem Vikavolt was overjoyed — but it didn't rush to interrupt. Instead, it grabbed another Charjabug to serve as a backup power source.
"So unfair..." Terrance gave a bitter smile as he watched Totem Vikavolt. The advantage Beautifly gained from Quiver Dance was completely nullified by Totem Vikavolt's "charging" strategy.
Fortunately, the Charjabug below didn't join in the attack against Beautifly. Otherwise, Beautifly might not have been able to hold on.
Given the current situation, Terrance was still quite satisfied.
Tailspin and sharp turns of Acrobatic Flying were Vikavolt's specialties — and Totem Vikavolt seemed to possess even greater mastery over these two maneuvers.
Using electricity to enhance both of these flying maneuvers was Totem Vikavolt's strong suit. With the support of Charjabug, Vikavolt could perform these skills even more effortlessly.
Beautifly had encountered the most troublesome opponent since mastering the Airflow Perception technique. The powerful collision between the Raging Air Currents: Quiver Dance and the electricity-enhanced Acrobatic Flying was so stunning that even Terrance was amazed.
Rotom Pokédex was frantically recording, all the while declaring that this would become one of the few classic examples of battle in its collection.
Island Kahuna Nanu had long grown numb to Beautifly, but the Extreme Quiver Dance amidst the raging air currents was even more refined than he had imagined. With each Quiver Dance, Beautifly had astonishingly closed the gap with Totem Vikavolt's Acrobatics, leaving Nanu deeply shaken.
It wasn't that he didn't recognize Beautifly, this Pokemon—it was precisely because he knew it well that he was so shocked.
"Just who is this kid, really?"
The battle lasted a very long time, and in the end, it concluded in a draw.
In total, Beautifly had managed to complete three Quiver Dance from the beginning, while Totem Vikavolt had drained all the electricity from three Charjabug to power its use of Acrobatic Flying.
The two Pokémon were evenly matched. Whenever one side gained the upper hand, the other would swiftly adjust and reverse the momentum. And so the battle went back and forth—until Beautifly, due to its limited stamina, could no longer keep up with Totem Vikavolt who was getting support of continuous electricity.
It was precisely at the moment when Beautifly was about to reach its limit—when the power accumulated from three Quiver Dances meant that any one of its moves could now unleash devastating force.
Using that strength, Beautifly and Totem Vikavolt clashed in their fiercest exchange yet.
Beautifly directly controlled Silver Wind, turning its powdery scales into sharp blades. This was its final burst of power—it had to hit.
Meanwhile, Totem Vikavolt, having also accumulated all its electricity, unleashed Spark move, using the sharp turn Acrobatic Flying maneuver, combined with "Spark", to perform a revolving destruction against Silver Wind.
Both were extremely powerful moves, and both sides suffered badly from the impact. Although Totem Vikavolt appeared to have suffered heavier injuries in the end, Beautifly was completely drained of stamina—and given that Electric-type moves were extremely effective against it, the scale of victory had, in truth, tipped toward Totem Vikavolt.
However, Beautifly's final move was truly terrifying in its destructive force—even Totem Vikavolt was unable to escape unscathed. And so, this Island Challenge trial came to an absurd conclusion: a draw.
…
…
Ula'ula Island's Pokémon Center.
Terrance received Beautifly's Poké Ball.
"Has Beautifly recovered?"
"Nurse Joy said there's no serious issue." Terrance turned his head and replied to Mr. Nanu.
"The condition for passing the trial is to defeat Vikavolt..." Nanu began to say.
"I know. If it's a draw, I wouldn't be satisfied with that outcome myself." Terrance replied, smiling. "Next, I'll continue challenging with Beautifly. Once I complete the trial and earn Totem Vikavolt's acknowledgment, then I'll come to you for the Grand Trial."
Nanu fell silent. Some of the words he had prepared were stifled by Terrance's proactive response.
"You're really going to keep challenging?" To be honest, when Nanu saw how far Terrance had gone in that battle with Beautifly against Totem Vikavolt, he had already gained quite a bit of respect for the kid.
"Of course," Terrance said softly.
After all, for Beautifly… this was a rare and perfect opponent.
"Well then, do as you like. I'll be waiting for you to come take on the Grand Trial." Seeing that Terrance had made up his mind, Nanu didn't say another word and left the Pokémon Center without looking back.
Terrance shook his head and smiled, then took Beautifly's Poké Ball and headed back to Mount Hokulani once more.
He wanted to see Totem Vikavolt again — it was the promise they had made when parting ways.
When he returned to Mount Hokulani, Totem Vikavolt had already recovered. Looking at this Bug-type Totem Pokémon that had gone toe-to-toe with Beautifly, Terrance couldn't help feeling a deep sense of admiration.
To be honest, if not for external assistance, it would've been hard to say how the battle might have ended.
But in that fight, Vikavolt had actually held back — at least with Electric-type moves. It had focused solely on competing in flying maneuvers, using everything to enhance itself and rarely attacking. Otherwise, with Beautifly's weakness to Electric-type moves, the threat would've been much greater.
"Vikavolt, do you want to compete with Beautifly in flying maneuvers again?" Terrance asked.
Totem Vikavolt nodded, glancing over at Beautifly beside Terrance. After the battle, Beautifly had the same thought — the two Pokémon had developed a mutual respect.
Both had exceptional flying maneuvers. Both shared the same type. Their strength was nearly equal...
Thinking of this, Terrance couldn't help but look at Beautifly. Compared to just completing the Island Challenge, Beautifly's growth was what truly mattered.
"Since there's already a precedent with Mismagius and Gallade… then..."
"Vikavolt, would you be interested in letting Beautifly stay here for a while?"
"During this time, the two of you can compete freely, exchange insights on your flying maneuvers. Interested?"
