「Battle Chateau, show your strength with a title!」
Arriving at the Battle Chateau, which was full of strong medieval European style, Terrance looked up at the slogan on the chateau.
"This is it, no doubt about it."
Rotom Pokédex nodded: "If you're looking to have lots of battles in a short period, this is probably the best place."
Terrance nodded. His main reason for coming to the Battle Chateau was to hone Gallade's techniques.
Just like the description of the Battle Chateau says, here, a noble title is a testament to one's strength.
From lowest to highest, the Battle Chateau has six noble ranks.
Baron, Viscount, Earl, Marquis, Duke, Grand Duke!
With different titles, the strength of Trainers at each level can also vary.
Simply put, the battle environment here is similar to the Battle Tower in Hoenn, but the style here is a bit more unique.
The Battle Chateau is a long-established special venue in the Kalos region. After entering, Terrance was greeted by an attendant dressed like a maid.
"I wish to participate in battles. I'm Terrance, from Fallarbor Town in the Hoenn region."
After entering, Terrance got straight to the point.
His directness startled the maid for a moment, but she quickly recovered and replied, "No problem, but…"
"Oh my, is a Trainer from the Hoenn region hoping to have his first battle at the Battle Chateau?"
Just as the maid was about to respond, a gray-haired middle-aged man wearing a monocle came walking down the corridor with a smile.
"Butler Turner," the maid said respectfully.
The middle-aged butler named Turner looked at Terrance and said, "It is a pleasure to receive a Trainer from the faraway Hoenn region. Welcome."
As the saying goes, "When in Rome, do as the Romans do" and Terrance quickly adapted to the customs here.
After following the butler to complete the process of registering his Battle Chateau "knight" status, Terrance followed him again to the main hall.
Knight — that's what it means. In the Battle Chateau, all Trainers refer to themselves as knights.
In this ultimate and prestigious battle social venue, not only are there many rookie Trainers collecting Badges, but also seasoned Trainers who compete in the Champion League, Gym Leaders from various cities, and even Elite Four and the League Champion. Kalos Champion Diantha is the Grand Duchess here!
It could be said that this is the most special place in the Kalos region for Trainers to exchange experience and information.
When Terrance, led by the butler, arrived at one of the chateau's halls, he was instantly captivated by the luxurious facilities inside.
It gave Terrance the illusion of having stepped into a super high-class hotel.
Inside the hall, though it couldn't be described as a sea of people, this spacious area — in the corridors, on sofas, by railings, and on the stairs — was filled with many Trainers engaged in conversation, creating a lively atmosphere.
"Everyone, a new knight has joined the Battle Chateau. Let's give him a warm welcome." As the butler and Terrance entered, they immediately drew everyone's attention, and Terrance was noticed by many of the Battle Chateau's Trainers.
"Mr. Terrance, since this is your first battle, you must first obtain the title of Baron. You'll need to battle a rookie who has also just applied. Would you like to proceed now?" the butler asked Terrance.
"I have no problem with that," Terrance replied. Just then, a young girl had already walked over.
Terrance watched someone walk over and revealed a barely noticeable smile. This must be his opponent.
At the Battle Chateau, first-time applicants for battle must go through an initial match to earn their first title: Baron.
This title can only be obtained by the victor.
"I'm Astrid. You're a new knight too?"
"That's right. Hello, I'm Terrance."
Looking at the blonde girl approaching, Terrance lightly exclaimed in his heart. Wasn't this the Trainer who had mastered Mega Evolution and owned a Mega Absol?
Could it be that at this point in time... she was still just a young and inexperienced Trainer?
Terrance chuckled inwardly, thinking this was quite the coincidence, though the outcome of this battle already seemed clear.
Even though it was a battle between two rookies, quite a few Trainers with time and interest had gathered to watch. As Terrance and Astrid followed the maid to the battlefield, a group of spectators had already formed behind them.
Upon arriving at the battlefield, while the maid explained the procedures, Terrance recalled the customs of the Battle Chateau.
"Lord Terrance, Lady Astrid, the victor of this match will receive the title of Baron."
"Understood," Astrid and Terrance replied together.
Immediately afterward, Terrance took out his Poké Ball and looked at Astrid.
At the same time, the opponent also took out her Poké Ball. The two extended their arms and bumped their Poké Balls together, locking eyes.
"Let's have a good battle."
"Let's have a good battle."
The customs of the Battle Chateau were rather strange. Terrance still wasn't quite used to them.
However, the fact that you could battle many Trainers here was true. Once Terrance earned the title of Baron, as long as he defeated 10 opponents in a row, he could further be promoted to Viscount, and so on, all the way up to the highest rank of Grand Duke.
Of course, if you lost even once during the process, your win streak would reset to your current rank, which was easy enough to understand.
In addition, you could only battle Trainers of the same rank.
"Go, Absol!"
"Gallade!"
The two Pokémon that appeared were both exceptionally rare. Though Terrance and Astrid were rookies at the Battle Chateau, the strength of their Pokémon didn't look weak at all.
"Oh?" The butler's monocle gleamed as he looked at the two rookies with surprise. Both sides were unexpectedly powerful.
"As long as I win this battle, I can get that cape, right?" Terrance's first thought wasn't about the Baron title, but rather the white cape he had seen in the hall earlier.
At the Battle Chateau, different colored capes are issued according to rank. These capes were full of noble flair, and after seeing others wear them, Terrance found them quite interesting. Battling while wearing one would probably look pretty cool, and he could even try adapting it to the outfit for Pokémon Contests.
As the battle began, Gallade and Absol engaged in combat. With a type advantage, Terrance didn't let Gallade go all out. His goal at the Battle Chateau wasn't the title or victory, but to use real combat to temper Gallade and refine its techniques.
So at this moment, Gallade didn't even use Teleport. It simply exchanged blows with the opponent using various slashing moves with controlled power.
Watching the fiercely attacking Gallade, Terrance's eyes flickered: "Not yet, it's still not refined enough. Although the power and speed are there, and the 'Iai technique' and 'Splitting Waterfall' have both reached a decent level of mastery, Gallade's attack patterns with these techniques are still too monotonous."
