Chapter 1135 - Dragon of the Sky - Rayquaza

They started fighting the moment they met; even if they fell they would get up and keep fighting. Kyogre and Groudon had already left Yamato with the impression of being aggressive.

No matter the reason for their aggression, it was bad news for her: the more aggressive a creature is, the more likely it is to take to Kaido.

Hoping they were pacifists was only Yamato's wishful thinking. Among Tier-One legendaries, Ho-Oh and Lugia are the most peaceful; they have no major conflicts and hardly ever see each other.

Zekrom and Reshiram fight over ideology; if a special person appears, it can reconcile the twin dragons' conflict.

But Kyogre and Groudon are different. In terms of authority and purpose, there is no real possibility of them coexisting peacefully.

Either they keep far apart and everyone sleeps peacefully, or if one wakes up, the other won't remain asleep.

The most effective way to make them stop is to beat both of them into submission.

From Yamato's experience, if no third Pokémon appears, Kaido's future would very likely be a choice between the two, or even both.

But that kind of thing is impossible. The sea and land have always existed in a state of flux, with oceans becoming land and vice versa. Kyogre created the seas and thus represents the will of the sea, Groudon created the land and naturally represents the will of the earth.

These two wills are not like the Ideals and Truth of the black-and-white twin dragons that can coexist. Putting their powers together would result in outright self-destruction.

The sort of fusion of water and fire spirit root that ultimately births a hydrogen–oxygen spirit-root incarnation — a nuclear-bomb Immortal Venerable — will not happen to them. [TN: Nuclear-bomb Immortal Venerable is a novel on Qidian, and Spiritual Roots allow a mortal to absorb Spiritual Qi and to become an Immortal cultivator.]

The appearance of a third Pokémon means there are other options. The choice Arceus prepared for Kaido is very likely not those two mountain-shattering, sea-overturning monsters.

Only Yamato forgot one thing: sometimes what can ease the immediate crisis is not necessarily a solution. It can be an even greater crisis.

What appeared in the clouds was another Tier-One legendary from the Hoenn region: the Sky High Pokémon Rayquaza, the powerful Dragon-type Pokémon that rends the sky.

In appearance, Rayquaza is a primarily green flying dragon with special fins on its tail and body.

Like Kyogre and Groudon, it also bears unique patterns on its body.

Unlike Kyogre and Groudon, which sleep in the deep sea and magma, Rayquaza lives high in the ozone layer.

In its long life, Rayquaza has never descended to the ground.

Because its habitat is so far from the surface, beyond the reach of the naked eye and shrouded by clouds, people on the ground have almost never seen its true appearance.

Most of the time Rayquaza guards the atmosphere; its enemies are unknown objects from outer space. The water and particles in the atmosphere are its food, and meteorites drawn into the atmosphere by gravity are also its food.

Sometimes, during nighttime meteor showers, Rayquaza can be seen, which is how it feeds, by directly consuming meteorites that the atmosphere fails to burn up.

Rayquaza rarely appears on the surface, except when Groudon and Kyogre are fighting.

If these two were allowed to fight without end, the entire world would be destroyed by the endless altering of sea and land. Rayquaza guards that balance, and when such an order-disrupting battle occurs, it appears to stop Groudon and Kyogre.

In a sense, Rayquaza is the pacifist Yamato prayed for, only Rayquaza's way of maintaining peace is peculiar.

It chooses to directly knock down Groudon and Kyogre; simply trying to reason with them without first beating them up is useless.

If you were to vote on which region's legendaries are the most violent and fond of fighting, Hoenn would very likely take the crown.

"Roar!"

While descending from the sky, Rayquaza roared, but Groudon and Kyogre, already engrossed in their fight, paid it no heed.

Seeing this, Rayquaza made its choice too; its body likewise got enveloped in light, and when the light faded, Rayquaza's body shone like a green gemstone.

A delta-shaped mark had appeared on its forehead; the pair of horns on its chin extended toward the front of its mouth, and some ribbon-like golden things also emerged.

This was not Primal Reversion, but Mega Evolution. Rayquaza, which lives high in the sky, is one of the few Pokémon that have mastered autonomous Mega ability.

Its habitual feeding on meteorites had stored a great deal of energy within its body, and it was precisely by harnessing this energy that Rayquaza could Mega Evolve on its own.

The moment Rayquaza appeared, the raging weather calmed: the clouds above the storm broke apart, and the scorching sunlight grew less intense. This was Rayquaza's ability.

Golden particles continuously flew out from the long whisker that extended from Rayquaza's lower jaw. These particles can control the concentration and humidity of the air; Rayquaza uses them to manipulate the weather.

"Roar!"

A dense meteor shower flew out from Rayquaza's body. Kaido recognized it as Draco Meteor, except the Draco Meteor released by Rayquaza was more powerful.

The dense meteor shower forcibly pushed back Groudon and Kyogre, and it enraged them both.

Temporarily separated, Kyogre and Groudon locked onto the new target and launched attacks at Rayquaza simultaneously.

Solar Beam and Origin Pulse flew at Rayquaza in succession. Using its agile body, Rayquaza weaved through the energy beams and fired Hyper Beam at the two Pokémon below.

Groudon and Kyogre were not without a means of counterattack. The brief stiffness gave them an opportunity. Groudon's Eruption released a large amount of magma bombs at Rayquaza's face, while Kyogre re-created the Origin Pulse.

This time's attack hit its mark. The struck Rayquaza let out a pained howl, then immediately used an even stronger Hyper Beam against Kyogre.

Unable to dodge in time, Kyogre was blasted away and ultimately crashed into Groudon.

Seeing Rayquaza swaggering in the sky and trying to use Kyogre, the stinky fish, to smash him, Groudon once again used Precipice Blades.

Not one blade but five sharp rock blades burst out from the sea before stabbing at Rayquaza from different angles. Groudon's attack, though it appeared clumsy, was actually very swift.

Several Precipice Blades intersected in the air, and the stone blades containing the power of the land triggered a fierce explosion in the middle of the air.

The explosions' shockwaves, mixed with scorching fragments of rocks, engulfed Rayquaza's body. Almost at the same time, Kyogre, whom Rayquaza had blasted away, also collided with Groudon.

Seeing this, the emerald radiance around Rayquaza became even more dazzling. After withstanding Groudon's Precipice Blades, Rayquaza's body was enveloped by air currents and it charged at Kyogre and Groudon at high speed.

The energy in its body concentrated at the front of its body, which was Rayquaza's signature move - Dragon Ascent.
