Chapter 15 - Survive (part one)

The rumbling sound originating from the hordes of zombies, running after the sound the speakers were making one after the other in order to bring them to a particular place, could be heard by the team as they stood there.

"Survive?" Diva asked shortly after Ash and Rika left them.

"We barely escaped the previous hordes, now he's telling us to survive even further?" Sinon added.

"We can't be wasting time pondering on what to do, we should get ready because they'll be here soon," Jared said as he took out a bag from the vehicle behind them.

He also brought out the guns they had previously used and handed them out.

"Since we are limited on ammo, we will make use of the rest weapons we have,"

He laid down the bag on the ground and opened it. The bag contained several other weapons such as sniper, pistols, grenades, crowbar, and a long metallic bat.

"Take the one you are most free with and take a stance out there," he ordered them as he held the crowbar firmly.

"We will use this vehicle as a standpoint and face off any zombie that gets close.

"I'm not good with pistols, so I'll use this sniper," Sinon said as she picked up the sniper.

"Are you sure? The recoil is powerful though," Gareth questioned, feeling concerned.

"Hand me that bat," Diva ordered and was given the bat immediately.

She swung it around a few times before confirming that she will use it.

David and Gareth held on to their previous weapons with some ammo.

"We will keep the rest in the vehicle, if you need a change of weapon, someone will cover for you while you change,"

Jared tossed the bag along with the remaining tools inside the vehicle and slammed the door shut.

Sinon stood out from the small hole at the top of the vehicle, she aimed the sniper in the direction the zombies would charge out from and waited patiently.

The rest of them stood at the front of the vehicle holding their weapons tight, and ready for battle.

While they were waiting, Sinon saw a zombie run out of the left corner and was headed for them. Without wasting another second, she pulled the trigger of the sniper and fired a shot.

The bullet pierced through the air and headed straight for the zombie as the recoil pushed her back a bit.

Immediately after the bullet made an impact, the head of the zombie exploded.

Its brain splattered all over the ground as the lifeless body dropped.

"Sweet!" She exclaimed.

"Nice shot," Gareth complimented. "Looks like you won't have a problem using it after all,"

Soon the zombies charged from both corners as they raced toward them.

David and Gareth immediately began to open fire at them without mercy, killing a lot of zombies on the spot.

They were now getting used to their weapons, enough to land headshots from several meters away.

"This could be an easy win," David voiced out as he continued firing.

"Don't be so sure," Gareth replied as he made a reload.

"The zombies began to charge at an even faster rate, making them take a step back.

Jared waited for the zombies to get closer before rushing at some of them.

He struck the first one close to him on the head with the crowbar and immediately bashed the head open.

He attacked another with the same pattern and had the same result.

Diva leaped above him with her long metallic bat and struck a zombie with force.

She ended up splattering the body parts on the floor but didn't care.

With her boot properly worn, she sent out a kick in the gut of a zombie and sent it crashing into others.

She bashed the head of another one that held her blue jacket from behind and again swung from down to up as she ripped the head of another.

She spun the bat around her hand and gripped it with her left as she swung at another zombie.

In seconds, she had taken down more zombies than Jared as they both fought side by side.

Two zombies rushed at them from the side while they were carried away fighting others.

Immediately they got close, they had their heads blown up by Sinon.

She immediately changed trajectory and fired again, carefully conserving her ammo.

"Grenade down!" David yelled as he tossed a grenade into the midst of the zombies.

Jared and Diva heard it and got down to avoid being caught up in the explosion.

[Boom]

The grenade exploded as it blasted apart the zombies, with their body parts flying about the place.

"Raaarrrr,"

While the grenade reduced the number of zombies by half, the rest charged again without stopping.

Jared rushed at them with Diva following from behind and soon they struck, stabbed, and bashed the heads of several zombies in their path.

"I knew they had it in them," Ash said inaudibly as he and Rika still stood at the top of another building far from the battle scene.

"You sure you don't want to join them?" He asked Rika who still stood close to him as she watched.

"No," she replied quietly.

"Alright then,"

They both stood there, watching the rest of the team fight hard as they brought down the zombies.

'This would have been a lot easier if they had their powers.' Ash began to think.

'In my past, their powers manifested as soon as the zombie outbreak happened.'

'Now it's being delayed for some reason.' his eyes dimmed as he observed them. They seem to be getting tired from all the fighting but their eyes still had a fire in them.

"We will keep training with the increasing number of zombies," he voiced out. "Just until the next phase,"

"Alright guys, we are heading out to find other survivors," a man clothed in a black jacket, white inner shirt, and blue jeans trousers echoed in the brightly lit room filled with other people.

"Those mindless creatures won't stop feeding and killing people out there," he continued. "Try not to make a commotion, alright?"

"Let's go men," he ordered and several men stood up and followed him out of the room.

Soon they were out of the large house that stood within a large compound parked with many vehicles and bikes.

After loading everything they needed into some trucks, they opened the large gate and drove out.

Sitting at the top of an armored vehicle, a commander of the armed forces, holding on to his AR - 15 rifle, let out a sigh as he glanced around him and his team of soldiers.

The whole area was covered with the bodies and blood of the zombies that engaged them.

His soldiers were busy clearing off the bodies from the street and were arranging them by the side, close to buildings.

"How did the world get this messy?" He questioned inaudibly as he leaned back on the windshield of the vehicle, staring at the sunset from the horizon.

"Sir!!" A soldier shouted out to him from the side.

Feeling exhausted, he managed to turn his head to the soldier.

"Sir, they have been spotted!" He alerted after saluting his commander.
