As Ayanakoji and Makima walk towards the Auditorium, Ayanakoji asks her, "What class are you in?".
Makima laughs, "If that's what you want to know, then I'll tell you. Class C.".
The reason why Ayanakoji wanted to know what class she was in was so that way he could understand what sort of situation she is in, as to whether or not she has control over her fate in terms of what class she can be in without the influence of outside forces, similar to his situation, which if that was the case, she would be in either Class E or A.
In the case that she wanted to achieve a specific goal that required any sort of power or authority, then she would have definitely of chosen Class A if given the chance.
So considering the fact that she is right in the middle, Class C, it means that she has both the choice to be there, as well as the fact that her intentions, if she secretly has any intentions despite denying the fact, don't require power nor authority to accomplish any such goal(s).
There IS also the exception that is, for example, specific to the surveillance of another classmate, making the type of class she is in completely dependent on who it is she's surveilling, rendering the theory that she is a free person completely obsolete, but he would have to be put that to the side for now, for there is no way of knowing just yet.
...
However, since she said "If that's what you want to know", while laughing, he isn't so certain anymore about whether or not any of that information will be important to him.
Considering how she's The Ideal though, it's very possible that she's just undermining the important details intentionally.
...
Ayanakoji... smiles.
For the first time for what may as well be 'ever', he is actually close to, almost able to, truly enjoy the company of another.
"What is it?", Makima asks.
"I've been waiting to meet someone like you."
She smiles.
They both continue to walk in silence and begin to climb the stairs up towards the auditorium.
This thankfully gets the large group of people to now be squished into their fronts and backs, rather than being completely surrounded by them, due to the narrowed walkway up to the entrence.
...
As expected, someone is still cocky enough to think that they have a chance to get close to Makima just because Ayanakoji did.
"H-hello there! My name is Ken Sudō, what's your name?"
"Makima, nice to meet you."
Now that everyone has made it to the lounge room, one room away from the actual hall, everyone is in closer proximity to Makima than they were before. They can actually hear her voice.
Some of the girls discuss and take note as to what she said her name was, while the guys are celebrating just how lucky they are to be in the same school as her.
"What class are you in Makima?", Sudō now asks.
"I'm in Class C."
"Oh... I'm in Class E..."
"Really? I am too.", Ayanakoji tells Sudō.
"Yeah yeah, no one asked you."
"You are, Ayanakoji?", Makima shows an expression of genuine surprise.
"Huh? Um, nice to meet you too classmate- I mean, Ayanakoji! Ahaha...", Sudō attempts to retract his previous statement.
The class that he is apart of is not something that Ayanakoji could hide from Makima, so he said it without any qualms.
'So Makima now probably knows that I am in E Class for a personal reason.
My status as friend or foe has yet to be determined. I hope that our dreams don't end up conflicting...'
Ayankoji and Makima memorize the faces of those around the two of them, making sure that there won't be any troublesome encounters to deal with later as they go on about their expected 'normal' life.
Once the secondary doors to the hall open, Ayanakoji tells Makima, "Let's part ways from here, we can meet up again after settling into our own classes first.".
"Ayanakoji, I need you to understand something."
"...Yes?"
"Just because your curiosity and interest in me is high right now, doesn't mean I have to do everything you expect me to do."
"Yeah, I know that.", Ayanakoji did neglect this fact, however, for he was caught up in the moment.
"I WILL see you later though.", she smiles and waves goodbye, without blinking.
"Yeah, see you later.", Ayanakoji waves back as she steps through the door into the hall first.
Ayanakoji notices that he feels that his heartbeat is slightly elevated, 'Those eyes... It's as if nothing else but she exists when I stare into them, or more like they're staring into me...'.
Ayanakoji then begins to enter the hall through the other door, before suddenly feeling an arm placed on his shoulders by Ken Sudō.
"Hey Ayunadoji! You excited for the first day of high school?"
"Ken Sudō, right? It's actually Ayanakoji."
"Hey, that's an impressive memory you've got there! Hey, guess what!"
"What?"
"I'm planning on going to the national basketball team after I graduate!"
Ayanakoji begins to ponder to himself, 'I don't think I should bother analyzing for the next while, while I still have the chance to. I need to practice changing my default state to that of purity like Makima has.
Though... I have to say, it's so obvious this guy is just trying to be 'buddy buddy' with me to get to Makima.
Why does she look so beautiful anyways? If she doesn't come from The Whiteroom, then what got her into the physical and mental shape she's in right now?
...
What has her life been up until now to surpass me despite me having been trained from literal birth?
...
Ok... I see I still have more to think of whether I like it or not.'
...
"What about you Ayanakoji, what will YOU do after graduation?"
"I don't know, probably go to a university."
It's true, he really doesn't know what he wants to do after graduation.
'Let's just hope that I have my freedom now, and I don't have to deal with my father or The Whiteroom from here onwards.
However, if freedom isn't an option, I'll just fight for it, by first taking over the Japanese government, stage one of The Whiteroom's intended plan for me, but then turn the rest of it upside down by eliminating that entire 'project' with the power I've gained.
But that's a 'big' if, I hope.'
Ayanakoji and Sudō enter and make it to the Class E hall room seating together.
"I'm so excited!", Sudō anticipates.
[1 hour later]
"I'm so bored...", he whispers as the principal finishes off his speech about the prestigious school.
...
The speech/presentation finally concludes, and everyone's claps begin delayed.
"And now, a few words from our student council president.", the announcer speaks.
...
"Thank you for the introduction. I'm Manabu Horikita.
Newcomers, as a representative of the upperclassmen, and your student council president, I extend a warm welcome to you all.
As I am sure you are aware, our school is known for its prestige and distinction on all fronts, and boasts impeccable employment and college entry rates across the board, we take pride in this..."
Ayanakoji then recognizes the arrogant girl in front of him, who happened to be seating at an angle for him to be able to see her face, as the student council president delivers his speech, and she appears to be suddenly uncomfortable compared to how she was acting the previous hour according to Ayanakoji's observations.
Ayanakoji also looked at the rest of those who are around him, and didn't expect the girl to be in Class E, 'Disappointing, but it looks to be the first case.'.
He then looks back over to Class C to look at Makima again during the assembly, unable to stop his eyes from being drawn to the large group of people around her trying to either keep their cool or act cool.
The student council president takes note of this as he is on stage, and then sees the one person in the middle of it who is acting completely normal and attentive compared to the rest, Makima.
"In fact... it's our... school's...
..."
The student council president goes silent, and the atmosphere in the hall becomes a stagnant fear, as though everyone is anticipating an explosive to be discovered at any moment.
The president begins to rush his speech as he keeps looking back to and away from Makima's wide, unblinking, eyes, "... number one priority and we all need to work together to uphold our standard of excellence now you are apart of that too we expect greatness from all of you're capable...".
As the president student council rushes, Ayanakoji looks around at the reactions of everyone's baffled faces, and those poking their heads up in the direction of where the president's eyes are constantly wandering to.
When he looks at the arrogant girl, he saw many faces throughout this speech delivered by the student council president, mostly a build-up of pain for whatever reason, but the moment the student council president got thrown off his game from Makima's usual glare, the face she had was that of utter confusion and complete shock.
The moment was so surreal to her, that it was as if she was watching a movie with the most unexpected plot twist.
"...your success here hinges entirely on merit, so you alone control your path!", and then the student council president runs off stage for the assembly to have its conclusion announced.
People begin to chat among themselves, still unable to figure out that the sudden change in attitude is Makima's unintentional(?) doing.
'Why didn't you just hold back? What's your intention behind making him feel powerless against you?'
