The entire sewer shook as they neared the hidden entrance into the hotel. Ethan quietly chuckled as he triggered his plan for jamming the radio. As he opened the wall he could hear the Hydra soldiers' radios blaring with music.
There were two of them in front of him. He pulled out his knives and slit their throats before moving further into the room. It was a storage room on the first floor. The stairs should be just across the hallway. He moved over to the door while sporting a grin from the music going through the handheld radios.
He peaked out the hallway and saw there was similar confusion as people ran down the stairs and went towards the exit. He calmly closed the door as he looked back to the secret entrance.
The rest of them were moving in while the others who were in the room were looking at the radios on the ground. "Is that music?" One of them asked.
"Yes it is, more specifically that is a song from the year 1979." Ethan answered with a chuckle.
"That won't be a problem? Shouldn't you try not to influence them with knowledge and technology from the future?" The man that came with the older Carter asked.
"It will not matter, I can explain later if it comes up." Ethan answered.
"That is catchy," One of the militia members said before beginning to hum in a singing tone, "London Calling…"
Ethan peaked out the door again and then moved to the stairs leaning up against a wall as one last soldier came running down the stairs. Ethan grabbed him and pulled him aside before a crisp crack indicated the man's snapping neck.
He moved up the stairs quietly as the others followed behind him. Reached the top where there were two Hydra soldiers standing guard. He went up to one of them and covered his mouth with his hand as his other hand used a throwing knife to slit his throat.
The other guard saw and went to raise his weapon. But a militia member pulled out a kitchen knife and sank it deeply into his jaw going up through his skull. Killing the soldier instantly.
They moved up the stairs again to the next floor. This last one had no guards at the stairs. Instead as they moved in the direction of the hall where the portal was he could see a number of Hydra soldiers standing around with their weapons focused on the portal. Meanwhile a few of the soldiers were looking out of the destroyed window that the younger Carter had come through earlier that night when she came to save them.
Ethan ignored them. Only momentarily glancing out the window to see the plume of smoke billowing from the pub he had turned into that old man's last stand. With the destruction plus him jamming their radios with music about London he had thrown the Hydra group and Nazis occupying London into complete confusion.
He walked up behind where a group of scientists were working on a laser with an unstable power source. They were firing it at the portal as far as he could tell. He picked up some papers which were clearly their notes. He could hear some quiet grunts and strangled cries as the Hydra soldiers by the window were killed. Then the militia members and the man the older Carter brought with her aimed their weapons at the Hydra soldiers aiming at the portal.
There was a cacophony of guns going off as they fell to the ground and the Hydra scientist that he was near ducked down in panic. Ethan ignored it as he kept going through the notes. Thankfully they kept quite good notes on what they were doing and what occurred afterwards. As he was looking he noticed a pattern.
"I do not know what you are doing but we have a limited amount of time before someone comes looking to see what all that noise was." The older Carter told him.
Ethan nodded before he looked at the Hydra scientists who started talking to him. "Hey… um… There is no way to control the portal or go through it. So I do not know what you are trying to do here."
"Actually there is. But you lack all of the knowledge necessary to pickout such a thing. But thankfully your very thorough notes have provided me with an answer. Now which of you wants to live, I only need help from one of you to program this laser." Ethan told them and their faces turned pale in panic.
Then one of them raised his hand. "I know how to program the laser. I can show you how." He was an old white haired man. The other scientists looked at him in panic
A younger one went red with anger, "You old-"
BANG!
The man that came with the older Carter executed him on the spot before turning to the other Hydra scientists executing them. He just left the old man that volunteered alone but gave Ethan a confused look.
Ethan nodded and then turned to the old man, "I need to help show me how to program this machine to certain frequencies then you can leave." Ethan told the old man to keep hold on the notes of the Hydra Scientists.
"Um… okay. Do you see these panels and dials? They change the frequency, just like how you can change it on a radio. But you press this button to make the changes that will affect the laser. If you do not press the button it will not make the changes to the laser's frequency." The old man hurriedly explained, pointing to everything he could.
Ethan nodded, it was an easy enough explanation. "Okay then. You can go." Ethan told him. He had a feeling that was how it worked but he wanted confirmation before he went around doing anything.
The man that came with the older Carter pointed his pistol at the scientist's head. "What but you said I could live if I helped you!" He panickingly pointed out.
Ethan put hand on the man's gun and shook his head. "And I meant it. You should run off now." The Hydra scientist quickly ran away while the others looked at him in confusion.
"Why did you let him go?" One of the militia members asked in confusion.
"Because it does not matter anyways. He will be dead anyways. Might as well save on the bullets." Ethan told them. He then turned his attention to the machine, quickly programming it to change the portal's time to the year 1978 in his world. It seems it was the original frequency that had been measured before changing it.
"Umm… what's happening with the thing?" The older Carter asked as he pointed at the portal. It was slowly changing from a blue portal into a red one.
"We are running out of time." Ethan answered before he finished double checking his work and then fired the laser at the portal.
BEEAAMM!
After a moment the laser stopped and the machine was smoking. Ethan measured the portal's new frequency and nodded, "Okay, it is ready. You three, go through it. Take that younger Carter to hospital to get patched up."
The Carters moved to go through the portal but the man that had come through with the older Carter stopped them. "Hold up, how do we know you will not try to pull something after we are gone. In fact, why do you think that one can go through? You are keeping too much from us." He pointed out.
Ethan sighed, "of course I am. I am trying not to reveal too many details that might affect the future as I know it. Now go through!"
"No, I do not trust you. I am staying with you." The man told him.
"Well I need to change the portal's frequency to my time before I destroy this equipment. So are you sure you want to stay? You will not be able to go back to your own time." Ethan told the man trying to scare him out of the idea.
"You can't! What about going back to our time?" The older Carter asked him.
"I do not have much going for me then anyways. I doubt it would affect time if I disappeared from existence." The man told Ethan. Ethan frowned for a moment before shrugging.
"Fine. You two get through the portal." The Carters stayed still for a moment looking at the man. The younger one was clearly going in and out of unconsciousness while the older one was contemplating her companions choice.
"I am going to come back through and stay with you. Give me a moment." The older Carter then went through the portal with the younger one without waiting for a response.
Ethan quickly switched the laser's frequency as the red portal turned blue again. With it looking much more stable than before.
BEEAAMM!
He changed the frequency again. "What are you doing?" The man asked in confusion after the beam stopped and the portal frequency had been changed.
"Closing the portal behind them so they cannot come through again." Ethan answered honestly. "Peggy Carter is a crucial part of the world's history." He then turned to the militia members, "but now that they are gone and not coming through and you are coming with me when I leave I can tell you all the truth about this world."
