CHAPTER START---

"What the fuck?!" Oberon almost loses focus after seeing their spells shatter against the Lizardman.

"It's not immune to Magic," Laxus says, quickly taking a fighting stance. "But the defense Magic it uses defuses Magic Energy Attacks."

Oberon narrowed his eyes at the Lizardman who was fast approaching,

"That just means…" he clenches his fists, focusing his Gravity Magic.

He recalls Gildarts's words, 'Make your fist as heavy as a planet, then punch them in the face…'

"We have to do this the old-fashioned way," Oberon lunges forward, surprising the Lizardman with a punch to the jaw, sending it rolling across the clearing, back to the rubble.

"Ha, you sound just like Gildarts," Laxus says as they both rush forward.

Oberon's arms are cloaked in Gravity Magic while Laxus has yellow lightning dancing around his entire body.

"Be careful, we still don't know what subspecies this is, it could have more tricks!" Laxus says as the Lizardman gets up, and sees both of them closing in on it.

"Got it," Oberon says as he leaps into the air.

The Lizardman is surprised by how high into the air Oberon gets, but is more concerned with the Lightning Magic dancing around Laxus.

It lunges toward Laxus, swiping at him with its sharp claws, only for him to disappear in a flash of lightning and appear directly under it, landing an uppercut to the jaw.

"NnGH!" the Lizardman groans as its brain is slightly rattled, only for its body to continue floating into the air, much higher than expected.

It flips a few times before feeling two feet slam into its chest, opening its eyes to see Oberon standing on it, floating for a moment before he suddenly becomes much heavier.

"RARGH!" the Lizardman shrieks as it's crushed into the ground.

As it moves to swipe at his legs he flips, kicking it in the chin and launching it back into the rubble as he leaps back beside Laxus.

The Lizardman quickly recovers and gets up, charging back at both the Wizards, but this time Laxus takes the lead.

Oberon takes a wide path, trying to put the Lizardman between them as Laxus raises a hand toward the monster.

"Lightning Flash!" Laxus says as a bright yellow flash erupts from his palm, temporarily blinding the monster.

He wastes no time and jumps up, punching it in the face with a lightning-covered fist, feeling his fingers crack against its hard skull.

The Lizardman quickly reacts, blindly swiping at Laxus, only for him to once again become Lightning and avoid the attack.

"Don't let up!" Oberon says as he punches the monster in the back, sending it stumbling toward Laxus.

"This thing is tough!" Laxus says as he kicks it in the chest, sending it back toward Oberon.

"Just hit it harder!" Oberon says with a broad smile on his face. "Don't give it time to get its bearings."

Laxus punches it in the head, and Oberon takes that opportunity to use his Gravity Magic and spin it, as if it did a backflip.

And as its head rises once more, Oberon jumps and kicks it in the side of its head.

The hit sends a small gust of wind through the clearing.

"Shit!" Laxus becomes lightning to get out of the Lizardman's way as he's sent tumbling into a tree across the clearing. "Are you an idiot, we can't fight like that if you suddenly go all out!"

"Sorry sorry," Oberon says as they both look at the Lizardman. "This guy is a lot tougher than I expected."

"Yeah, I noticed," Laxus rubs his knuckles, the skin on them already peeled away. "Natural armored scales, innate defense Magic, it must be the leader of whatever Clutch it came from, which means it should have more tricks."

"Then we'll just have to be careful while beating him down," Oberon says as the Lizardman rushes toward them again.

Both Wizards meet the monster in a head-on clash that lasts for more than ten minutes, leaving cuts and bruises on the Lizardman, but only making him angrier.

"Look out!" Laxus says as he senses the Lizardman's Magic Energy flare up, and the monster's claws and teeth glow white as it enhances its slashing power.

Laxus barely dodges the attack by transforming into lightning, but Oberon can only react by raising his arm to block his face.

He feels the enhanced claw swipe push through the Gravity Magic coating his arm, but the power is reduced enough that it's just a few small cuts on his left forearm.

"Arhhhh!" Oberon leaps back, just in time for the Lizardman to spit a green liquid at him, not magical, simply a biological feature of its species.

Oberon waves his other hand and uses Gravity Magic to throw the liquid aside, confusing the Lizardman.

"It's getting desperate, which is making it stronger, we need to put it down, now!" Oberon says while wincing in pain.

As he's trying to regain his focus, Laxus jumps back into the fight and trades blows with the Lizardman, earning himself a massive gash along his left shoulder, almost down to his elbow.

Oberon thrusts his good arm forward, using a wave of Gravity Magic to push the monster away before trying to catch his breath.

"Laxus, can you still fight?" Oberon asks as he sees Laxus trying to get up. "We should retreat for now, this thing seems like it can fight for a while longer, it's a lot tougher than I expected."

"No!" Laxus punches the ground with his good hand, forcing himself to stand. "I'm not running away on my first mission, no way in hell!"

"Then we need a new plan, fast," Oberon says as he rushes forward to get between the monster and Laxus, continuing the fight.

"Keep it still for a moment, but let me gather my Magic Energy first!" Laxus yells out as Oberon fights the monster.

"Got it," Oberon says, narrowly dodging another claw swipe as he uses Gravity Magic to push the monster back.

As it stumbles, he closes the distance and gets to the side of it, punching it in the ribs, pushing it farther away from Laxus.

Oberon and the Lizardman trade blows for almost a minute while Laxus gathers his energy, the sound of cracking lightning and the scent of ozone permeates the clearing.

And the monster notices this, sensing the threat it goes into a frenzy.

Its eyes widen in fear as it sees Laxus, sensing his Magic Energy building more and more with each second.

Eventually, its primal instincts overpower what little experience it had, and the monster decides that Laxus is the only threat here.

It pushes more Magic Energy into its claw enhancement, causing them to suddenly extend by a few inches.

This surprises Oberon and leaves a massive gash in the left side of his face, barely missing his eye.

The pain Oberon feels quickly becomes anger.

And in battle, his Magic blooms….

CRACK!

A Gravity Magic cloaked fist slams into the monster's lower jaw, knocking it completely off its head and across the clearing.

Oberon looks down at his fist in surprise, feeling that the Gravity Magic was now properly focused around his first, just as he'd done once accidentally against Gildarts. But this time the feeling lasted long enough for him to study.

Laxus was also staring at his friend in shock, not expecting that sudden power to surface.

And across the clearing, the Lizardman was also staring in shock, almost as shocked as the boys were that the monster was still alive and conscious, rising to its feet to kill them.

"Oberon, move!" Laxus yells, and his friend immediately leaps to the side.

Laxus takes a wide stance and inhales deeply as he condenses his Magic Energy within his body, staring at the monster directly across the clearing from him.

"Dragon Slayer Magic—"

A yellow Magic Circle, clearly different from his Lightning Magic Circle appears in front of his mouth.

"---Lightning Dragon!"

The crackling lightning on his body subsides as his power is focused entirely on this spell.

"---ROAR!"

Laxus unleashes a one-foot-wide beam of Lightning directly at the Lizardman. The sound of crackling lightning and booming thunder echoes through the surrounding forest as a blindingly bright light shines in the clearing.

At the side, Oberon simply stares with wide eyes at the aftermath.

The Lizardman was completely electrocuted and charred, its corpse lying on the ground in a patch of scorched earth.

"Wow," was all Oberon could say, still processing what he saw, and more importantly, what he heard.

"Yeah, I think that should do it," Laxus says as he drops to one knee, barely awake after that attack.

After a minute to catch their breaths, Oberon sits beside Laxus against a tree, still looking at the corpse.

"So, why didn't you tell me you're a Dragon Slayer?"

Laxus sighed and closed his eyes, knowing this question was coming, and that his grandpa would yell at him for using that Magic.

"Nobody is supposed to know, it's a Lost Magic, hasn't been seen in centuries," Laxus says.

"Then, how'd you learn it?"

Laxus turns away from him, "Some stuff happened, and now I have this weird Lacrima in me, alright?"

"You don't have to talk about it if you don't want to, it's fine," Oberon says before he laughs quietly. "Honestly, this is pretty cool, who better to help me protect us from Acnologia than a Dragon Slayer."

Laxus looks over at him, surprised.

"You aren't freaked out by this? I mean, I'm not really normal anymore you know."

"Powerful Wizards are rarely ever 'normal'. Besides, normal is boring, I'd much rather have you as a friend than some boring person."

Laxus looks at him oddly for a moment, then laughs, "You're such a weirdo!"

"You're one to talk, 'Dragon Boy'..."
