Chapter 7 - Defeat

Fluder Paradyne, the court magician of the Empire arrived the next day using teleportation. Soon after arriving Fluder started casting long range spells on the fortress walls.

Chief said to the builders as they watched this unfold, "He is like the Grand Warden."

The builder added, "At that range non of our defenses will manage to counter him."

"Can you build something with a longer range?" asked the chief.

"I can improve the cannon's range by reducing the weight of the cannon balls, but it will take time. More then what we have."

The chief's calm face was replaced with concern. He couldn't pretend anymore.

The chief then said, "send the troops."

Everyone knew the troops would most likely die, the knowledge of that fact made things much harder.

Back at the Empire's side,

"Are those giants that are coming out of the fort?" said the disciple of Fluder.

"Everyone! fall back!

Magic casters! take position!" said the commander.

All the casters used Fly and then used Fireball on the approaching Giants.

The Fireball were doing damage but the Giants didn't seem to care. Soon the Giants walked past the flying casters and reached the foot soldiers.

As soon as the Giants made contact with the frontline one could see the soldiers being thrown 5 meters up in the air and fall on top of their friends. The Giants were clearly winning the fight.

However, due to being surrounded and having a slow movement speed the Giants eventually were kited to death.

'The giants did better then I expected in the frontal assault. But the enemy army managed to defeat them with their excellent coordination.' thought the chief. 'From the looks of it, this is an impossible battle for us.'

"Gather the wizards. We will cast a mass teleport on the village." said the chief.

"But we never tested that before. Chief, please reconsider. This could destroy everything." said the builder.

"We don't have any better option, Bob. If you have a better plan then speak."

The builder went quite. Both knew the risks of doing this but they also knew the consequence of staying. So after some thought the builder agreed to the chief's request.
