Chapter 8 - Chapter Eight: 'Twas The Night

Weeks had passed and Wanda eventually forgave Yelena and Kate for losing you at the zoo. Your aunts were no longer allowed to take you out on their own, so instead they hung out at either your apartment or at Natasha's. Christmas was coming up and with every passing day you were getting more and more excited.

Growing up you only remembered having one or two Christmases that weren't filled with trauma. You wondered if Santa would still come even though you weren't technically a child full time.

Since the zoo incident you had been having a hard time aging up into your adult age. Most days you were younger than a one year old and had to rely completely on Wanda or Natasha. If you were being honest with yourself, you didn't really mind not aging up. You just worried that Wanda and Natasha would no longer want you if you were to truly stay a little full time.

Natasha smiled as she walked into your nursery and saw you reaching up at the mobile hanging over your crib, it had little chibi characters of all of the avengers. It had been a gift to you from Tony, of course Iron Man was in the center.

Your eyes sparkled with joy when you spotted your mama and immediately you babbled up at her. "Mama!"

"Looks like you had a good nap my little tiger. Mommy is making cookies for Santa, do you want to go help her?" Natasha asked you as she tickled your belly as she carried you into the kitchen. She absolutely loved to hear you laugh.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------Yelena and Kate were both completely covered in flour as they had a flour war before Wanda separated the girls and got them busy decorating cookies. "Now remember y/n is going to be the judge of the best cookies and the winner will have bragging rights for the whole year." Wanda said as she winked at Natasha who had just walked in carrying you.

Natasha put a bib around your neck once she got you settled in your high chair and set a plain sugar cookie in front of you along with different colored frostings.

Everyone stopped what they were doing as they all gushed over how cute you looked as you did your best to decorate your cookie. You had red and green frosting on your face, in your hair and all over your hands.

"Yay! Good job, y/n!" Everyone clapped their hands as they took pictures of you holding up your masterpiece of a cookie. You had a cheeky grin on your face as you tried to feed the sugary mess to Wanda.

"You eat it, baby. Mommy has already eaten so many cookies. Do you want to play with the sprinkles while we wait for everyone to finish decorating?" Wanda asked as she shook different bottles of sprinkles onto your sticky tray.

While everyone made finishing touches to their final cookies you played with the sensory of the different textures and shapes of the sugar sprinkles. You giggled when Lucky licked the frosting off of your fingers and toes.

"Alright everyone place a cookie in front of Y/n. Whichever cookie Y/n takes a bite of is the winner." Wanda said as she wiped your tray clean. You squirmed and pouted when your mommy wiped your sticky face and hands.

Yelena placed a snowman cookie decorated with a glittery green scarf and a black tophat.

Next was Kate who set down her Christmas puppy cookie that looked almost like Lucky but the cookie had a red bow and santa hat.

Yelena rolled her eyes, "you play dirty Kate Bishop. You know how much y/n loves Lucky the pizza dog."

"Just wait until you see what I've made. I have for sure won the competition." Natasha laughed mischievously as she sat down a tiger shaped sugar cookie in front of you. She used black sugar sprinkles to make the tiger stripes pop, and gave the tiger an elf hat.

Wanda clicked her tongue disapprovingly as she looked at Natasha in disbelief. There was no way you weren't going to pick the tiger cookies. She sighed as she put a Rudolph reindeer cookie in front of you. Out of everyone's her cookie looked the best decorated.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------You clapped as you looked at all of the cookies. "Yay!" You cheered in happy baby babbles as you touched each cookie.

Everyone held their breath as they desperately wanted to win bragging rights for the whole year. It wasn't just bragging rights but it was the title of being your favorite that was on the line.

Kate smiled wide as you reached for her Lucky cookie and moved it up to your mouth, before taking a bite you said a new word, "pup-pup!"

Lucky wagged his tail and sat in front of you as you took the half eaten cookie and dropped it in his waiting open mouth.

Wanda snapped several pictures of Natasha who stood in disbelief that you hadn't chosen the tiger cookie. "That's what you get for playing dirty, Detka." Wanda chuckled as she gave her girlfriend a playful kiss on her cheek.

Kate picked you up out of the highchair and kissed your green and red stained cheeks as she made you giggle, "I knew it! I know that I am y/n's favorite. Isn't that right, y/n?"

You giggled as everyone rolled their eyes at your aunt Kate. Not truly understanding what was going on you squirmed in her arms and pointed to Lucky, "pup-pup."

"You got lucky this year Kate Bishop. Next year I think you will not be so lucky." Yelena said playfully as she tried to sound like she was a sore loser.

Kate put you down in your play pin and took your bib off of you. "Auntie Kate is going to buy you whatever you want." She joked as she placed a kiss on the top of your head.

Wanda and Nat chuckled as they watched Yelena and Kate banter with each other. "Come on girls lets get the kitchen cleaned so we can get y/n ready for bedtime. This is her first Christmas with us.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------Yelena helped Natasha clean the kitchen while Kate helped Wanda give you a warm bath. At the word "bath" Lucky had run off to hide.

You rubbed your eyes tiredly as your mama dried you off and dressed you in a warm red onesie that had a cute reindeer on the front and it read, "my first christmas."

You sucked on your hand as you continued to rub your eyes.

"I think she's hungry for milkies." Kate said as she had picked up on your behaviors.

Wanda nodded her head as she saw the clear signs that you wanted to breastfeed. The sugar was causing you to crash. "Alright baby, let's go sit with everyone by the fireplace. Mama is going to read us a story."

The warmth of the fireplace felt good especially as your mommy held you in her embrace. You looked up at her with love in your eyes as you suckled from her full breast.

"'Twas the night before Christmas, when all through the house

Not a creature was stirring, not even a mouse;

The stockings were hung by the chimney with care,

In hopes that St. Nicholas soon would be there…" Natasha began to read the classic Christmas poem. She smiled as she looked around the room and felt thankful for getting to spend time with her family. It didn't matter what gifts would be under the tree, having her family was the greatest gift.

Kate snuggled in Yelena's arms as Lucky slept contently at their feet. They relished in the feelings of love and safety surrounded by loved ones.

"He sprang to his sleigh, to his team gave a whistle,

And away they all flew like the down of a thistle.

But I heard him exclaim, ere he drove out of sight,

HAPPY CHRISTMAS TO ALL, AND TO ALL A GOOD-NIGHT!" As Natasha finished the poem she looked up and saw that Yelena and Kate had both fallen asleep on the couch with Lucky. She took in a breath as she was captivated by how beautiful Wanda looked from the glow of the kindling fire.

Wanda had finished burping you and you had fallen asleep in her arms. She was about to get up when she felt Natasha sit down next to her.

Together they watched over you as you slept. You were their greatest gift.

"Come, let's go tuck in our little tiger." Natasha said as she gently took you from Wanda's arms.

Nat put you into your sleeper sack as she made sure the temperature in the nursery was at the perfect temp. They turned on your nightlight before leaning down and placing a goodnight kiss on each of your rosy cheeks.

"Merry Christmas, little one."
