They did not go in blind.
Erix sent his eyes down into the basin first, drifting them low through the clinging miasma, mapping the ruins archway by archway before a single boot touched the fallen stone.
"The haze thins toward the center," he said, reading what they found. "There is a structure still standing under it. Domed. Intact. That is where the weight is coming from. That is where the resources will be."
"And the danger," Korin added.
"And the danger," Erix agreed. "We go slow. We go together. Anything that comes at us, we take it as a group, and no one runs. Whatever killed those people out there, it killed them while they were running. So we do not run."
They descended into the basin, and the miasma closed over them like warm water.
