Chapter 59 - Assassins - 2

They were seven in number, and no doubt sent by the higher ups to deal with him.

Where they got the confidence that a few people with questionable skills could do anything against him, he wasn't sure. Perhaps they had some cursed tools to help or maybe one of them had a peculiar cursed technique to work with.

Regardless, he wasn't too worried. Though that didn't mean he wouldn't be careful fighting them.

"I'll ask this once." He said, holding out his hands in front of him, fists clenched. "It was the higher ups that sent you, right?"

He asked to confirm. There was always the possibility of some other random Sorcerer, too shaken by his ascent to power to hold ill thoughts about him. But more than likely, it was none other than the Jujutsu Council.

They didn't confirm anything, but their microexpressions told him all that there was to know.

Damn. Records of Tenjin is a cheat like always.

Without any pleasantries, his feet left the ground.

His body tore through the air like a living bullet. His body was constantly adjusting itself to new levels to strength through passive cursed energy circulation. And now, when he used it actively?

He became a blur on the battlefield!

His figure dashed across the rooftop, reaching the first assailant before they could blink!

Just then, before his fist could land, his vision flipped again.

Bam!

Something hard hit his face and a profound sense of disorientation hit him.

His eyes darted towards his previous position and the necklace on his neck glowed in an ominous blue light.

The man had switched places with him again. His friend had taken the opportunity to smack him with a cursed baton.

Feeling a trickle of blood travel down his temple, he clicked his tongue and snapped his finger.

Whoosh!

He spun around rapidly, throwing a kick at the man closest to him!

As expected, just before the kick landed, his vision flipped.

And...

Crack!

A disgusting crack filled the air. Shuichi felt his feet touch the ground and looked towards his previous position. The man who had been switching places with him was embedded into the building below.

His entails were splattered all over the ground and blood pooled around his lifeless corpse.

"Damn..." Shuichi felt a bit speechless. He had only placed a small error in the technique. He didn't imagine that the result would be so gruesome to look at.

Suddenly, he could not help himself imagining triggering an error in Satoru's infinity, splitting him in half.

The imagery made him chuckle in grim satisfaction.

It'd probably be better to punch his face in though... I still remember my fist hitting his face... ah, the satisfaction.

Hearing him laugh, the rest of the men - 6 in number - recoiled back in vigilance. They did not understand why their friend had died so inexplicably, but they knew it was none other than Shuichi who had done it.

And they were scared.

In their eyes, Shuichi seemed to turn into a demon with large horns, laughing at the death of their companion.

He turned to them and spread his arms out.

"Are you gonna come? Or should I?"

"Zenin Shuichi!" One of the men screamed, running towards him with full force.

"You don't need to scream! I can hear you! Idiot!" Shuichi mimicked his enthusiasm and rushed upon all of them!

Boom!

The roof beneath him splintered in spider webs and he ran forward. Before anyone could even react, he had already taken the face of the man in the front and shoved him down into the floor!

Boom!

Crash!

Crash!

Crash!

Shuichi took him to the base of the building, holding his face towards the ground at each level! At the end, his head was reduced to a bloody pulp!

"Man... that sours my mood." Shuichi clicked his tongue as he looked at his blood soaked clothes. Luckily, he could manipulate everyone to ignore him through records of tenjin.

Before long, he felt someone jump down and try to slam their baton into his head!

Clang!

A metallic sound reached his ears and he slowly looked up. A giant shield had materialized in the air, protecting him from the man.

The attacker was suspended in the air, bound in chains.

"Why'd they even send such weak assassins? They should've sent someone worthwhile." Shuichi shook his head and tightened the chains. The man's body exploded into pulp, splitting open like a watermelon.

Spurt!

The blood splattered onto the ground.

"Or maybe they still think I don't have what it takes? I doubt that's the case after I beat up that old man."

Crash!

Three men jumped down simultaneously, in their hands various cursed weapons.

Shuichi's eyes gleamed and he instantly had a smug expression.

One of the men stepped forward, piercing ahead with his spear.

Shuichi held the spear in place with his hand and then, a Katana bit right into his shoulder!

However, it could go no further into the muscle, only lightly cutting the skin!

"Really people?" He asked. The last man grabbed him into a chokehold, wrapping his arm around his neck.

"Using my own weapons against me? Is that what gave you the confidence?"

Pierce!

Spurt!

Splat!

Spikes grew from his back. Pale blue and glowing with an ominous light. They littered the man in holes and his limp body fell to the ground.

As he did, Shuichi broke off the spear and grabbed a hold of the man with the katana.

"Just so you know, I can deactivate my weapons if they are in range." He chuckled.

The next moment, the katana was out of the man's hand and slicing through his belly.

As he too fell onto the ground, Shuichi looked to the last man who had jumped down.

He stumbled back, falling onto his butt.

"W-wait! I can explain! I'll do anything! Just spare me!"

"Not interested." Shuicui shook his head.

The next moment, a piece of rubble fell onto the man's head, snapping his neck.

"Man... error creation and magnification are so broken... it's like I have power over calamity itself." Shuichi mused, scratching his chin.

Then, his eyes took on a mischievous tone.

He sensed the edge of his barrier being grazed by something.

No doubt the remaining man.

They abandoned each other so quickly... that's jujutsu sorcerers for you. Wait, are they even sorcerers? They clearly don't seem too used to combat. Maybe curse users? Employed by the council? Shaking his head, Shuichi decided he would simply interrogate the last person.

If he resisted still, he would bring him to his workshop and show him some 'love.'

Then, crouching down, he pumped cursed energy into his legs.

Thump!

His cursed heart beat with intensity and a heat began to bloom within his legs.

And then-

Boom!

His figure shot through the hole in the building, reaching a hundred meters into the air!

In the air, his eyes glowed with blue light.

His gaze pierced through the buildings, honing in on the only other source of cursed energy he could see!

With lips stretched into a grin and a cursed construct appeared in his hand.

It was a large spear!

"Boo." He spoke. And threw the spear.

...

The council room was silent.

Each shadow sat without saying anything, perched behind their shiji doors.

The tension was palpable.

Suddenly, one of the shadows swayed and spoke.

"What do we do now?" The voice was male.

"His weapon making talent was revolutionary. We should have gotten some more benefits while he could have."

"Agreed."

"No. That would only have resulted in more complications later." One of them replied in a stern voice.

"Indeed. He already had many different tools in his personal arsenal. It would not have been good if he was allowed to grow further."

"Nothing is set in stone yet." One of them said with reason. "Do not celebrate so soon. Although he have given one of them a strong tool, it's no guarantee that they'll absolutely succeed."

"Hmph! Curse users cannot be trusted!"

Unbeknownst to them, the curse users they had sent were already dead, lying in a pile of blood and viscera in a random alleyway.

Well... at least six of the seven were.
