Nick plan was simple, easy and quickly executed.
He flew down close enough to see the pharmacy with webbing all around it and then flew up high enough that the building was just a vague outline in the mist.
Then all he did was opened up the surviving bottles of liquor, plugged a couple with a torn fabric he got off of spare employee uniforms in the Grocery stores staff room, and then lit them on fire!
As the first of his homemade molotov smashed into the building and caught fire, the spiders immediately woke up from their slumber and began to investigate.
All Nick saw was their faint shadows in the mist but if he was close enough, he'd have seen that what scurried out of the pharmacy were large, greyish arachnids with eight spiny legs, long, thin spines, a wasp-like abdomen, four eyes, an insect-like thorax, and a human skull-like head!
As they spotted the fire, they emitted high, piercing shrieks. By the time they all arrived outside Nick had already thrown all of his molotovs and now only had the the bags of unused fire starter.
Seeing the faint outline of Nick in the mist, the spider shot their acidic webs at him but their reach couldn't get him at that height, instead they just fell back to the ground and sizzled into the pavement.
The fight was essentially over already, Nick just began pouring the flammable liquids onto the spiders and throwing bottles into the flame itself, causing the entire pharmacy to quickly engulfed itself in flames!
It took over thirty minutes of burning for the entire pharmacy to catch flames and begin crumbling down, Nick was covered in sweat from the heat and the constant strain on his wing, but he ensured the death of the spiders Nest.
He had to shoot a few of them but eventually he couldnt find a single surviving spider, making sure the coast was clear, he landed.
Nick felt the heat of the flames and smelt the burning medicine fill his nostrils but his eyes landed on something else, it was a half burnt spider that was larger than the rest.
It was a massive spider at nearly 5ft tall, it was half burnt and had a multiple bullet holes from where Nick shot it.
Out of all of the spider here, this was the one Nick chose! Sticking his thumb into the bullet hole, Nick pulled out green blood and rolled up his sleeve.
All five slots had been filled and he now had to replace one of his absorptions for the first time. Obviously the snake was the weakest of the five but its thermal vision helped Nick out immensely, so after little thinking, he stuck his green thumb onto the slot with the human face on it.
The giant spider began to turn into partical and flew into Nicks second slot, as the particals flew in and the overwhelming pain came with it, Nick saw particals also flying out of his arm.
Nick could only assume these were the particals of the poisoned human he absorbed on the plane, these particals flew high into the sky before disappearing from sight.
After a few seconds the pain receedes and Nick felt slightly weaker and dumber having lost his the Human slot, but he felt the abilities he gain from the Spider inside his body. The red human face in his second slot had been replaced by the face of a green spiders head.
He felt three ability, two of which congregated to his wrist while the final one was in his mouth.
Activating his first wrist ability, an inch thick string of webs shot out and hit the floor, it was the spiders ability to web things up!
'Perhaphs i could be a knock off spiderman?' As that thought crossed his mind, Nick gave the web a hard tug and ripped it.
Unlike spidermans webs that could shoot out hundreds of feet and hold up tons of weight, Nicks webs were slightly stronger than normal ones and shot out ten feet max.
At best, he might be able to use them to detain normal humans by wrapping them up completely head to toe, but against anything with superhuman strength these were useless. Activating his second ability, Nick eyes widened.
A thin, almost invisible, strand of green web shot out of his hand and landed on the floor. Nick watched as the thin thread sizzled the cement, burning a cm into the ground before stopping after a few seconds!
Feeling a little bold about the gut feeling he had on how his acid threads work, Nick shot out another thread but before it fell, he tapped it with his index finger and felt nothing!
Trying it once again, Nick touched his acid thread and realized his hand was completely immune to his own acids!
'I wonder if this translates to being immune to all acids or just my natural acid. I'll have to test it out once I leave.'
As for his last ability, he didnt have anything to test it on but he had a feeling on what it did. The acid spiders would bite into its prey and inject them with eggs to hatch, Nick had a strong feelings thats what his Mouth ability did!
He would later test this ability out on an uncooked turkey and realized that after he bit into something, he could inject it with eggs that hatch out tiny acid spiders in minutes! These spider would die off in an hour without the Mist, but he had absolute control on the spiders during the time they're alive!
Feeling accomplished in his hunt, Nick was about to fly back to the Grocery store when he heard something off in the distance. It started off very faint but with each passing second Nick realize what it was.
"Help! Someone please help me!!!" It was someone screaming for help!
Opening up his duffelbag, Nick pulled out his trusty shotgun loaded with slugs and jogged over to the sound. The cries of help turned into soft whimpers that Nick followed in the dense fog, he'd soon regret his choices.
Nick was a logical hero, if he could save somebody then he'd do anything to help them, but if he couldnt save or saving them resorted in his death, Nick would abandon them to their fate. If he'd knew about what was going on, he'd have fled without hesitation.
As he walked through the mist, Nicks thermal vision picked up two orange heat signatures off in the distance.
Nick felt his heart pounding in absolute terror looking at the smaller being, he couldn't even see its face or body but his entire body shook in fear of this being.
With his mind in terror, Nick didnt know why but his body moved on its own as he robotically stepped forward and switched off his thermals.
On the floor was a human man, his neck had been ripped open but he was still alive but dying. The small being bit into the man, consuming chunks of his flesh and swallowing them into his ever shifting face.
Nicks head hurt looking at this creatures face, but it was a familiar pain that conjured up memories. His mind couldnt help but go back to when he first arrived in this world and read that letter, the pain he felt reading that incomprehensible name written down was the exact same pain he felt looking at this creature!
'Is this creature the work of one of the beings that sent me here!' This revelation shook Nick to his core, this creature wasnt apart of the Mist!
Sensing Nicks gaze, the shifting humanoid turned to look at Nick who's body was shaking in an uncontrollable and instinctive terror.
Biting deep onto his tongue to bring about pain, Nick finally regained some sense and turned around to run away only to freeze once again.
The shifting creature had turned into a blur so fast that he appeared in front of Nick who'd just turned around to run, its blood drenched face inches from Nicks chest!
If he couldn't flee then Nick was forced to fight! With his shotgun at his hip, he began firing slug after slug into the being, only to watch in terror as the slugs slammed into the Humanoid grey skin and fall to the floor flattened!
Like he was oblivious to the attack, the naked but genderless humanoid bent down to pick up the crumpled slug shell and looked at it in curiosity.
Nick immediately tossednthe shotgun away as wings sprouted from his back! With a swipe of his wings nick took flight, without all that weight he was quickly gaining altitude and getting away!
Nick thought for just a fraction of a second that he'd got away after flying nearly 100ft away, only to feel an an agonizingly sharp pain appear in his chest!
Looking down in shock, Nick saw that a clawed greyhand had stabbed through his chest and straight through his heart! Nick turned his head to spot the humanoid still on the ground, its hand had stretched and elongated itself to stabbed Nick!
Feeling an all consuming sense of powerlessness, he spat out a glob of blood before he fell back down to the ground!
Nick heart was destroyed and he was dying!
