Chapter 24 - Revelation

After a couple of days, a chrome silver BMW pulled into the driveway of the residence; the building appeared to refamiliarize itself with its recent guests. Upon the entry of the three, Nova noticed that all the power had been cut out and the defences were recalled.

"You're telling me that this boy here is Ruthless' little brother? And you killed her in this very house? How absurd!" Marcel's laugh was incredibly girthy and full of life.

"Ahaha...yeah...that happened."

Nova responded, "Let's go clean up that body first, before we can have a laugh about it."

***

"About that body..."

In the basement, all that was left was a dried pool of blood. Waves of confusion, fear and excitement swelled up in Akira's mind. "Someone took her? Are we going to be found out?"

"Definitely not." Marcel approaches the empty crime scene. He traces his finger across the floor, to find his hand covered in dust. "Nobody has been in this house since you people. The only footsteps in this room are ours, so unless someone came to take her the same day you arrived,...No...It's not possible.

"What isn't?"

"She must've had an accelerator. A top tier one to be able to automatically activate. Even then, I wouldn't know how she'd survive a barrage of bullets."

Furrowing his brows, Nova let out a sigh. "Let's split. Look for any sort of clues on where this zombie may be."

Three hallways from the entrance, right beside the garage filled with unused beauties, Marcel opened a door to a room with countless rows of wide glass briefcases. While he walked down each aisle, he'd point his flashlight at each case, viewing the contents inside them.

"Nucranium artefacts...? These are priceless!"

Struck with awe, he continued through the room, until he halted before a rather intriguing possession. A Nucranium bat: red with a black leather strapped around its handle. Several spikes formed onto and dissolved back into the bat every so often.

"Red ore? How did a woman like her get a hold of such? Just what does the Emrys family do..."

Without hesitation, he opened the case and swiped the weapon from it's prison. Now, it was his.

But suddenly, a screech echoed across the corridors of the manor, shattering each and every case, distracting the macho man from his thieving. "That sounded like it came from upstairs...I've got to help." He began to run, then paused, grabbing a two handfuls of weapons before dashing for the stairs.

Above Marcel, Nova strolled along to the door on the first floor titled: 'OFFICE'. He slid into the room to see a collection of books stacked in every corner, and in the middle, was a black, slick laptop at a desk. As he approached the table, he skimmed the titles of a couple of the books:

'Experiment 483, Experiment 567, 711...923...these aren't just books.

They're diary entries.'

He cleared his thoughts before opening the laptop, only to be greeted by a password screen. Nova scoffed. But out of the corner of his eye, he spotted a half opened drawer containing a much thicker book than the others.

'The Emrys Theory...'

The man's face peaked with interest after opening the first page and finally seeing a picture of the whole family:

He immediately recognised the little boy, as hungry as ever, Akira was dressed very wealthily, however while carefully eating what seemed to be a hotdog, he must've gotten sauce stains on his shirt. Next, the twins, basically toddlers in the image, their splitting resemblance of each other left Nova struggling to decipher between them. Then, of course, Ruthia Emrys herself. Here, in her late teens, she looked much neater, maybe even nicer judging from the soft smile she kept on her face.

The other 4 children, all younger than Akira, stood in unison. One of them was wearing glasses, completely invested in the book she was reading. Another, this time incredibly tired with a pillow in her hand. Beside her, a boy, was her opposite, lively and rambunctious. The last child, was different from the rest. Her hair was red like her mothers, and her eyes wore a cloudy white. She stood much further from the rest, but stuck beside her mother, who seemed hide a solemn expression behind her smile.

Then ultimately, Nova analysed the father. Bearing a stern structure, he stood with arrogance and pride, a cane in his right hand, his left adjusting his tie. Unlike the others, his whole presence in the image gave Nova a uneasy feeling. The way he looked away in the distance...

'What is he looking at...?'

His queries came to a sudden halt, as a long, berating scream rung through his ears.

[ 'The Emrys Theory' has been successfully stored in the inventory. ]

He took the book, storing it as he prepared to investigate the noise.
